List Mgmt. 2019 Draft Prospects

With De Koning and Georgiades both going as 1st rounders tonight, by my count that makes 12 sons of former Bulldogs currently on AFL lists at a quick count (others being the other De Koning, Libba, Cordy, Wallis, Hunter, Rance, Hanneberry, Macpherson, Reid X2).

Amazing number really.

West?

Holy cows our recruiting has been great.
OUT- Morris, Boyd, Picken, Roberts and Webb. Sad to see them go but they played a total of 3 games between them this year. These departures do not affect anything on-field that happened last season alone.
IN- Gardner, Bruce, Keath, Weightman, 52, 71. These guys add something, and a couple speculatives that could be anything. Really happy with how things have played out. We set the benchmark this year with an Elimination Final. We've lost nothing from the team that took us there all year and have now added some quality players in positions of need and hopefully we get a couple more longer term prospects. We're set guys! Sit back and enjoy

For the people wondering why Kemp slipped here are some facts about ACL injury's;

"Despite advancement in surgical procedures, the outcomes following ACL-reconstruction continue to be poor. Less than 50% of athletes are able to regain their pre-injury level of performance[1]. For those who returned successfully to sport, re-injury remains a risk factor.

The incidence of re-injury in the first two years following reconstruction is estimated to be 6 times greater than those who didn't suffer ACL injury. This incidence is much higher in female athletes[2]. A study reported 29.5% ACL re-injury in the second year with 20% sustaining contralateral injury[2]. The risk of re-injury extends up to 5 years following injury[3]."

A La Trobe University study, published last year, reported a recurrence rate of 30 per cent in the AFL with the incidence being particularly high in young players. That's almost a 1 in 3 chance that Kemp will do another ACL when he returns. I know that number seems incredibly high, but it should come as no surprise, how many AFL players have we seen do another ACL as soon as they return? We saw it first hand with Clay, Libba and Morris. In fact I can't even remember the last Bulldogs player who returned from an ACL without re-injury.

It's a very ugly cycle like we have seen with Clay x3, Redpath x3, Menzel x4, Scharenberg x3, Patton x3, as well as many others with multiple reconstructions needed.

I wish the kid all the luck in the world because knee injuries really are the worst. But I'm glad we went with the safer option.
I wonder how Max King will go. One of the 70% or one of the 30%?

Think Bob Murphy did each knee once but never re-injured either?
That's what they're referring to with "a 20% chance of contralateral injury". (Literally: contra = opposite, lateral = side.)

Medicos will always opt for an obscure term over one that their patients might understand!

Not sure if it was poor TV coverage, but when we were 'on the clock' there were a couple of shots of Port on the phone...

...I suspect quite strongly that with the talent still available that we were trying to get 2 picks inside 25.

1) We didn't really have the currency.

2) I might be way off and Weightman was there all along... (although we did take our full allotment of time...)

Either way, history it now is!

Most seem happy enough, let's hope he delivers.

Dale Bruce Weightman
LLoyd Naughton Greene

That would be our forward line if we were going for 6 blokes that can actually take a mark up front. And a balanced two talls, two mediums and two smalls type structure. Suddenly we've gone from a forward line full of midfielders a few years ago and talls that struggled to assert dominance consistently. To having a forward line full of genuine forwards.

Alright have had a night to sleep on it and digest the available information.

1: Still happy with the Weightman pick, allows us to target more variety later.

2: Why were Carlton the only club to bid ?

3: Why did Carlton pass on Sam Flanders to secure Brodie Kemp and Sam Philp ?

4: Can Luke Jackson rove Max Gawn's tap outs or crumb at the feet of Braydon Preuss ?

5: Why prioritize Pickett after taking Spargo, Bedford and Chandler as small pressure forwards two of whom
were as recent as last year ?

6: How can recruiters say we have been watching them all year and then take Cooper Stephens and Mitch
Georgiades who barely played with long term injuries ?

7: Got an e-mail from an Eskimo living in a remote village in Alaska who has never seen the AFL and even
he had Rowell and Anderson 1 & 2.

8: Can I survive the tension waiting for Part 2 after completely ignoring Part 1 ?

I was thinking the same! But we will never know.

I would think we go after a project tall with our next selection. Who is that likely to be given our next is deep into the draft??

The old double bluff. He’s a cunning barstool that Sammy P.

I felt really sorry for Pickett, it’s a long way to come from home to Melbourne, his mum was in tears.

just on that I can’t work out Melbourne’s drafting, a ruck when they have Gawn and Prudis, another small forward. I thought their midfield is the problem?

Inside midfield is pretty much all they have. Brayshaw, Oliver, Jones, Harmes, and Viney plus a bunch of hybrid mid/forwards (Petracca, Spargo, Hannan, Melksham, Dunkley etc).

Jackson makes sense. He should be a better chop out ruck than Pruess and will be ready to take over with Gawn hits his end in 5+ years. I don’t think he’s worth pick 3 but from a needs view it adds up

Gold Coast still managed to take almost the full 5 minutes for each pick as well

I honestly don't know if Weightman should be there. The last 4 games the doggies averaged 116 points with;
Dale Schache Lloyd
Smith Naughton McLean/Dickson
Which 2 out of that list gets dropped/moved to I/C?
With Caverra, Greene still in the background, and West resting forward.
If the doggies were picking for need, i would of been super keen for another tall backman with trengrove and suckling going soon.

I wonder if someone put out the idea that we were into Pickett, in order to get Melbourne to fancy him and take him and let Weightman fall to us?

Id love to know the order in which we ranked the players we were reportedly interested in.

I hate the idea of going for 'needs' with late picks. late picks are already unlikely to become stars so narrowing the field even further by going for a 'type' is not a great idea.

Chucking some 100:1 shot onto the list with a late pick is not addressing an issue, its 'thoughts and prayers'
