The Bergman thing seems really legit to me. It makes sense why we were keen to keep 13 if we had a lesser known player in our sights that we would be happy to reach for. Obviously the cats out of the bag now so it’ll be interesting to see how far he climbs and if we have the chance to nab him.

Pick 13 is the perfect spot for us to be in I reckon. Outside the top 4 players, Rowell, Anderson, Young and Green, players 5 to 13 is probably the next rung under, but they are all still pretty good and somewhat even across those picks. Outside 13 is the next drop off. So we were already in for a chance at grabbing one of the better talents in the draft no matter what happens. So if Bergman gets picked before us, we will then get two players from that batch to choose from. It's a good position to be in.

Really warming up to Bergman the more I read about him and watch some highlights. Could be the winger we are missing. I'd pick a top level winger over a small forward on the same level any time.

The Demons recruitment guy was on the road to the draft podcast this week and was pretty honest/open about a few things. In relation to pick 8 and Weightman he said there are 4 or 5 very good small forwards in the draft and also name dropped Kemp and Robertson at pick 8.
At pick 3 they have narrowed it down to 3 and then mentioned Young, Jackson and that they rate Green.

Fisher Mcasey interview on the AFL website. Get the impressions not just a casual dogs fan, seems like he really loves the club.

Interestingly named Keath and Naughts as his two role models in terms of play style. Not sure he’s exactly what we need but seems like a great character to have around the club. Future captain material.

Not sure I want Fischer McAsey after all. He’ll get called Fisher all the time.

It’s bad enough having Keith ... errr, I mean Keath.

With us likely getting Ugle-Hogan next year, do we really need a pick 13 tall forward?
Weird that the description for Worrell says he's a swingman, as he's played most of his year as a rebounding tallish defender.

I'm not too keen, much rather McAsey. I'd be happy with a genuine KPD intercepter developing on the list, he wouldn't play forward with us I'd imagine.

I chucked up Bergman as an option a week ago. If we do get him, can I claim him?
He is a classic Bulldog pick. Improved during the year, skilled, athletic, hasn't quite put it all together consistently yet, and has a late birthday

IT MAKES sense that Fischer McAsey, who has grown up a lifelong Western Bulldogs fan, would idolise Aaron Naughton.
McAsey is a versatile, talented tall prospect who can play as a key position at both ends of the ground. Marking, like Naughton, is McAsey's key attribute.
But it was another Bulldog who first took McAsey's eye as he fell in love with the red, white and blue.

"I was a really passionate fan with the Doggies when I was about five years old, and I'd just write letters to players in my spare time," he told AFL.com.au.

"I wrote one to Matthew Boyd and he wasn't a [really] popular player at the time and he wrote back and gave me a hat and scarf. Ever since then we became pen pals and I met him at a few family days and things, which was nice."
The talented Sandringham Dragons prospect shapes as perhaps the first key-position player picked at next month's NAB AFL Draft.

But it was the determined midfielder Boyd, an ex-skipper of the club and member of the Dogs' breakthrough 2016 premiership team, who forged a bond with McAsey in his youth.
"He did remember me from the letters so it was a good experience as a young kid," he said.

"The impact you can have on young kids [is huge]. They look up to AFL players and he really inspired me, so I'd like to be an inspiration to young kids if I can get onto an AFL list."
That step is only weeks away.
McAsey ended the season in a moonboot, suffering a stress fracture in his foot and forcing him to miss the Dragons' end to the NAB League season. He was also sidelined for the NAB AFL Draft Combine.

But before that McAsey had established his credentials, starting the year as a key back who could leave his man, cut off forward entries and get things going his side's way.
He showed that in Vic Metro's under-18 carnival, where he was named his side's most valuable player ahead of top fancies Matt Rowell and Noah Anderson after averaging 14.5 disposals (at 74 per cent efficiency) and six marks a game.

But McAsey also shifted forward at stages after the national carnival, showing an appetite for busting packs and throwing himself at the ball.
"My main strengths are my contested marking. If that's as a back, then I like to roll off and intercept," he said.
KEY DATES What's coming up next in the off-season?
"But if it's as a forward then just try to crash packs and create a contest. I pride myself on being clean with my hands.
"As far as my best position, I find I'm a bit more consistent as a defender at this stage but maybe my best footy playing as a forward I can impact games more. It really depends on the club's needs in terms of where they put me."

classic dalrymple pick, but would he take him at 6? if he really liked him, Im sure he would
Someone like Ash or Young seem like Dalrymple picks to me - light, quick, skilled.
Melbourne will bleed them dry for pick 3.

I don’t think the Dees will trade. Neither will Crows and the Swans bid on Green. Nothing GWS has is worth dropping from 3 to 6. Not even a future first and other picks.

GWS trades up and gets done.... this is my hope anyway.

If we only wanted to retain Pick 13 for Bergman as our main target, then surely we can afford to live trade our pick to something a little later, in the interest of bringing a later pick forward a bit (or banking points into 2020). Obviously our list managers would have a better idea, but Bergman seems to be consistently rated outside the top 20 of the draft, so I can't see much risk in trading with someone like Geelong for their 17, GWS for 18, Richmond for 19, etc. Even something like 13 + 53 for 19 + 38 with Richmond looks attractive to me, since it would almost certainly still get us Bergman, while also making our second pick far better

Note: I doubt this is an accurate artistic representation of our "Big Board" at least I hope it's not. :moustache:

Based on the info we have been give so far I would say our realistic preferences are:

Plan A: McAsey (Young+McAsey+Keath replicates Naughton, Schache and Bruce up forward)
Plan B: Bergman
Plan C: Rivers (We like him, but similar to Jordan Clark last year - WA boy who we were linked too but went Smith)

That's exactly the 3 I'm expecting too. So much of the Weightman talk has come from entirely unverified sources, so I have my doubts there. God I hope it's McAsey

I still think Weightman makes a lot of sense for us but agree the links are tenuous.

Definitely fits that need for a small forward, but feels like we may be better off going for something like McAsey/Bergman/Rivers with our 1st pick, then maybe Ned Cahill at 53 (or wherever it ends up). This year is probably not the best year to overpay for a small forward when there are so many smalls and players with x-factor found later in the draft. Plus until I see an official source linking us to Weightman, it's really only Bigfooty rumours thus far

"Consistently rated" doesn't mean much though, it's just the views of some media figures and people here on bigfooty. It's always wrong. My guess is he's rated higher by clubs than we know.

What is special about Rivers?

Fair point. We really have no way of knowing how clubs view each individual player. Stocker being at 7 or 8 on Carlton's board last year was evidence of that, when most people had him closer to 20 prior to the draft (as well as a handful of clubs apparently). Bergman could really be anywhere, I'm just assuming he's outside the 20 based on what I've seen/heard, which could be highly inaccurate
