Hayden Young clearly trying to tank to get to us - saying he’ll just play kick to kick with Lachie the whole game regardless of the colours he wears [emoji12]

He will come home to play with his brother in 2 years anyway just like the twins

With Port securing pick 16 from the Lions, I wonder how this now affects the draft with 3 Picks(12,16,18) in the 1st round. Will they now target more S.A kids as they have in the past before their F/S Jackson Mead(Dylan Stephans,Will Day,Will Gould or Kysaiah Pickett) or move up by packaging picks if they don't think Dylan Stephens will drop to them.
This could definitely shake loose some potential top 10 talent. Serong, Kemp, Robertson, McAsey, Weightman
Strongly suspect Port have done that trade to enable them to trade up during live trading. Reckon they will have already worked out an 'in principle' deal to acquire 6 from GWS on the night.

They have given up next year's 1st rounder as part of the trade, so it's a pretty high stakes trade that only really makes sense if they get pretty high up this year.

Sounds like GWS pick 6 about to be swapped with Adelaide for 4. GWS future 1st also involved.

Wehen I heard the trade, I know it will shake up the top 13 before us. If there is some live trading, really hoping a top-flight player (SerongKemp/McAsey) falls to us due to last-minute shuffling of picks.

can Melb please spoil the party and bid on Greene?
Bam it just happened, GWS receives Adelaide pick 4 for Pick 6 and a future first-round selection. Really really want Melbourne to make that bid and screw those plastics, and it's not out of the realm of possibility...Green is probably worth it.

At this stage I think GWS would pass.

Melbourne won't bid. GWS paid a pretty price for a two spot upgrade. Shame Adelaide didn't go harder.

Melbourne won't bid as they will return the favour to GWS for not bidding on Jack Viney back in the days.
Yep, teams have a pretty good idea of where players will go and pre-organise bids accordingly. Then there are the handshake deals.

Teams would have their phones running hot for the "what if" scenarios on draft night so any live trades are pre-planned based on certain scenarios.

Fully expecting Young and Jackson to go 3 and 4 now, not sure in which order though.
Yep me too, even though I think it's a huge call to take an undersized ruck at pick 3 or 4 even if he can play forward a bit. The tweeners sometimes just don't work out (e.g. Boyd, and Peter Wright looks just 'ok')

Gold Coast owe GWS nothing so bid on Greene at 2 ;)

GWS now have pick 4, 40, 59 and 60

40 + 59 + 60 = 733 points, roughly pick 26.

If Green gets bid on by the Swans at pick 5 s expected, that's 1,878 points - 20% discount = 1,502 points = a 769 deficit to carry into the 2020 draft. That's more than pick 25 by itself.

That's huge. For example, that would push pick 10 back to pick 30.

I asked this question a few days ago but don't think I really got an answer - In this scenario will the deficit points come off the GWS first round pick that went to Adelaide? Or off GWS' first available pick in the draft?

Because as I understand it, the rule states that the deficit points are taken from the corresponding round in the following draft that the bid was matched in.

Not sure - Adelaide have the pick now but if it's from GWS' second and third round picks it's another loophole the AFL have left wide open for clubs to exploit.

We'll definitely need to know as we may well end up with a deficit ourselves after the 2020 draft with JUH, Raak, and McPherson.

The points get taken off the corresponding round and the rounds afterwards until points are paid off. However they can't pay with a pick they no longer have so points come off of the next available pick.
If a bid comes at 5 that'll mean gws have effectively moved out of the rest of 2019 and 2020, with there picks taking place after points are no longer allocated

I guess if your bringing in 2 top 5 rated kids you can afford to sit out the early rounds of the next 2 drafts.
