Pick 52 and 71 could get interesting. Hopefully they don't get knocked around too much, and maybe even slide up with bids and what not. Really won't find many polished ball users and the like around that range but could grab someone with a bit of leg speed.

you need forward depth? We currently have dale Lloyd Dickson Greene and cavarra as natural mid-small forwards on our list.

as I said before Dickson has 1 year left if that, Lloyd is 30 (I believe) green has shown some good signs but has been injury prone and is only contracted for next year plus he is a marking mid size forward like dale. Cavarra struggled to get on the park and is only contracted for next year.

so of our current mid-small forwards 2 are best 22 Lloyd and dale, 1 will be off the list by end of next year dickson, and two that are unproven and could be gone at the end of next year. The pick makes complete sense even if we have those players on the list as none have all the traits weightman has.
Yep fair point, Weightman is very handy and definitely a position of need.
I just keep thinking of the elimination final, we got smashed by the Plastic Scum by bigger and more aggressive bodies. With Kemp still on the board(i know he is out for the year) but man; big dude, fantastic kick for goal and can be a utility down back.
Plus I have seen Rylee a couple of games in the forward line(he is a mid playing out of position) and he was a tackling machine, even looking bigger at pre-season

I thought home and away was exciting until Mason was shot and killed, but step away for a brief period and
wow someone has taken the draft hostage. The Gold Coast rumours might have some substance, Cody
Weightman a good pick up makes it easier to target a wing type with the later pick.

kemp won’t impact next year due to his knee and maybe not the year after either, we have libba and Wallis plus another preseason into Dunkley lipy and smith to fill that mid position to counter what gws did to us.
You counter what gws did with mature bodies not young big bodies in my opinion.

Do we have anyone we can Cat B rookie if overlooked? Am I right in saying we can do this with CCP? Is there any others?

Wouldn't be suprised to see Kemp tearing up vfl by the end of next season.

Also with weightman he may not be tall but he is stocky and a strong build. Wouldn't get pushed around to easily

I would of taken Kemp - but for list balance Weightman looks good.

10-15 years from Naughton, Weightman and Jamarra looks great (Y). With Bont, Macrae, Dunkley and Smith feeding to them for 5-10 years.

I'm actually really excited about our last going into the future.. Shame the ages arn't reversed though and Naughton and Jamarra arn't older than our midfielder jets.

You also counter them with attitude and it looks like Weightman might have a bit of that. (You know ... it's not the size of the Dog in the fight but the size of the fight in the Dog.)

ok we do our first next year and a second back for Gould make everyone look bad

Aren’t you still on the phone making deals? I’m sure I lip-read Nick Austin saying your user-name? Unfortunately the preceding words he said were not very complimentary, something about stalking and spectrum.

Looking forward to picking up father son prospect Harry Schoenberg (son of Josh Dunkley and Heath Shaw)

Guessing Geelong didn't want Kemp or Robertson bad enough. Flanders unexpectedly sliding probably ended any of those rumor's about Gold Coast trading up for Kemp. They found a player they wanted more and teams knew Carlton were willing to trade out their pick.

Apparently tomorrow will be a trade frenzy to chase the likes of Robertson, Worrell, Bianco etc. First round picks next year up for grabs. Anyone think we may be an interested party in trading up again? Forget the fact we need the first round pick for Jamarra or we are doomed thing for a moment. We can still bring in our 2021 first round pick, and have the discount. Just curious if anyone thinks we will be one of the teams in discussions?

For the people wondering why Kemp slipped here are some facts about ACL injury's;

"Despite advancement in surgical procedures, the outcomes following ACL-reconstruction continue to be poor. Less than 50% of athletes are able to regain their pre-injury level of performance[1]. For those who returned successfully to sport, re-injury remains a risk factor.

The incidence of re-injury in the first two years following reconstruction is estimated to be 6 times greater than those who didn't suffer ACL injury. This incidence is much higher in female athletes[2]. A study reported 29.5% ACL re-injury in the second year with 20% sustaining contralateral injury[2]. The risk of re-injury extends up to 5 years following injury[3]."

A La Trobe University study, published last year, reported a recurrence rate of 30 per cent in the AFL with the incidence being particularly high in young players. That's almost a 1 in 3 chance that Kemp will do another ACL when he returns. I know that number seems incredibly high, but it should come as no surprise, how many AFL players have we seen do another ACL as soon as they return? We saw it first hand with Clay, Libba and Morris. In fact I can't even remember the last Bulldogs player who returned from an ACL without re-injury.

It's a very ugly cycle like we have seen with Clay x3, Redpath x3, Menzel x4, Scharenberg x3, Patton x3, as well as many others with multiple reconstructions needed.

I wish the kid all the luck in the world because knee injuries really are the worst. But I'm glad we went with the safer option.

I don't think so. There are lots of guys who I like left on the board and our picks will still come forward slightly with a few bids still to come

Think Bob Murphy did each knee once but never re-injured either?

Oh, how could I forget Bob too.

Doing the opposite ACL on return is included when I meant 're-injury' btw. We don't know why but you're 6 times more likely to do your 'good' ACL on return as well.

As Dr Larkins explains in this article; https://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-08-02/how-knee-double-trouble-mystifies-the-medicos

Leading sports medico Dr Peter Larkins says there's evidence to suggest an AFL player, should the return to the same elite level post-surgery, is five to seven times more likely to pop his "good" ACL than before the first injury.

However, there's no hard evidence that states exactly why that is.

"There's a number of potential theories about it," Larkins told AFL.com.au.

"It's well recognised that it happens, it's not a coincidence.

"There's a strength difference, and people who have had an ACL have really got to work hard on their other leg as well as the injured leg when they're doing their rehab, or the other one becomes more prone.

"It's something to do with the motor control in the brain – if you've had an injury, the nerve supply to the muscles gets affected.

"I think also psychologically players become a little bit protective of the injured one and they get the non-injured one to do a bit more work.

With De Koning and Georgiades both going as 1st rounders tonight, by my count that makes 13 sons of former Bulldogs currently on AFL lists at a quick count (others being the other De Koning, Libba, Cordy, Wallis, Hunter, Rance, Hanneberry, Macpherson, Reid X2 and West).

Amazing number really.
