Yep.Kemp a potential superstar? Weightman just a role player? WTFWIK? Talent identification can make any policy look like genius or stupidity.
Yep.
IF (a big IF) Weightman plays like Jamie Elliott, he is in no way a 'role player'. Elliott on song is a game changer.
Posters were considering trading a first rounder plus change for Papley.
Let's give Flea a chance before we start calling him just a role player.
Always remember that some people thought Bont was a bad pick

Flea? Is Cody known to get about with just a footy sock over his willy?
Think the article said Pickett and Bergman were both right in the mix for us if still there.Article on the AFL website says we were weighing up between Weightman and Kemp, and also implies we would have taken Pickett ahead of both if he was there. It'll be very interesting to see what turns out to be the right choice. I've got a niggling feeling it will be Kemp but who knows. I'd love to know if it was the ACL, or list fit, or if we just rated Weightman the better player.
It's a good point. I'm usually vehemently against drafting for needs early, but there's a few extenuating circumstances here:My thoughts:
1. Weightman fills a need right away at a high level.
2. We just brought in a tall for each end of the ground, and we’ll have Ugle-Hagen and Raak next year who are also talls at either end of the ground, and our midfield is stacked. Kemp’s versatile but I’m not sure if we have a position he could make his, like Weightman can do with a forward position.
If we'd had pick 4 we probably would have gone best available.
Robertson is an interesting one. Ranges on so many people's boards because of his strong contested game/poor disposal think he is very similar to dunkley in that wayIncidentally, for my money that would be Hayden Young, and he'd have been a good fit as well.
I think Weightman was one of the best available at 15. Below Kemp (on ceiling) and Robertson, but not many others.
Also the young man is only 18 years old so he potentially has a few more cm's to grow.Lots of interesting views on the Weightman selection, I have enjoyed reading. I'm more onboard with the decision than I was on the night. He looks to me like a high involvement player with a point of difference (specialist small forward who can snap with either foot and can take an overhead mark), he appears cheery, easy going and robust, he has a good physique, he could be a human cannonball in a few years time. And he's not that small either at 177, he's not much shorter than JJ, let's not talk about him as if we had selected a midget at pick 15.

MaCrae who grew from 189 to 191 over one pre season I'm not mistaken.
Then we would have a non d**khead version of stringer who can actually take an over head markWhat if Weightman has a late English style growth spurt?
We will have an army of KP forwards.
Jackson is about 7cm shorter, and from what I've seen is far less mobile than English, although looks to have a better contested game. I'd be willing to bet English is the better player long term, and if given the choice between the two I'd go English every timeCurious as to people's opinions about Luke Jackson vs Tim English. I think it may have been in one of the Callum Twomey videos that Luke Jackson is referenced as "going to be the best ruckman going around in a few years time" (I'm paraphrasing there just a bit). I thought our Timmy was going to be that player. Thoughts?
