Reasonable player in a top side ,will be very average in a weaker team.
If we think we need to overpay average footballers it will make it very difficult to improve going forward.
Smart recruiting and trading is everything.

I agree.
But the other option is to overpay below average footballers which we have done for a while and we have not improved we have gone backwards. If we could overpay A graders that would be one thing but they don't seem to want to come. Who is left? Bog average AFL standard players and there are actually not very many of them that are willing to come.

If we could hold onto our young players for long enough I would rather build slowly through the draft. But that is a big risk, with young players coming out of contract who have been losing for 2 or 4 or 5 years and wanting more success and bigger crowds.

And the risk is going up every year because the cost of leaving the Suns is going down. Down, down, down. Not in terms of draft picks but in making the decision to go.

Look at the response this year to Martin and Ah Chee. There was disappointment and anger and a bit of teeth gnashing but no real surprise from anyone. Pretty much everyone moved on to what draft picks and players might be involved. And the players will move to the club of their choice and in 6 months everyone will have moved on. Just another off-season at the Suns.

It is getting easier to leave b/c so many have left before.

If we don't improve soon? I agree strongly with the Coch here. If we don't break the cycle soon the wheel will keep turning and we will be the effen hamsters.

I really don't like it but suspect the alternative is worse. This is the off-season to overpay for average, especially if we get a top of the draft PP.

Will Anderson on his two guys one cup podcast with Charlie Clausen - comedy AFL podcast - continuously says he wishes the town of the Gold Coast was washed into the sea and ceased to exist.

Get this guy and Greenwood would certainly stiffen us up in the midfield

Ellis has been a bust IMO.

Murdoch I think when we get better, will get better.

GHS has been important around the club, already being promoted to the leadership team by the lads. On field he hasn't delivered, but off field he seems to have had a strong positive influence. Sometimes you need a couple of these guys around the club.

Unfortunetly this isn't FIFA, you need to put together some strong leadership types within the club, just having good players isn't enough.

I think any trade in and drafting mature age /delisted players need to be around Jack Martin age. Ages 27 + players GCS already used up that quota in Miles, Murdoch, GHS. Other in GCS list in that age group are.Swallow, Sam days, Thompson. Greenwood is fine anything more they need to be in Rookie list. As for Corey Ellis he is still young, one season is not enough to assess his development

Cam Ellis Yolmen and Greenwood standing in the center would give us far more value than their salary in terms of message sent to the oppo, protection for our existing mids and a side of physicality we don't have now

We have a couple of physical guys that are aggressive but none of them are imposing physically in terms of size like these two potential trades are

Swallow, Holman, Bowes and Darcy tackle hard but they don't exactly intimidate on field

I agree GHS is good for NEAFL/Professionalism etc
Ellis deserves more time but the signs aren't great. Murdoch could be OK as we improve jury out.
