So the Martin deal is 1+ million for the first year and 3+ million over 5 years.
>600k per year.

It's a big investment to make in the hope he becomes a good player.
Doesn't strike me as the guy producing 600k type value when he is 30 years old.

Are we going to match or what? :)

Good luck, Martin. It will be interesting to see if he can play his best consistently. I have some doubts.

It is believed the five-year contract request is valued at close to $650,000 per season

I was all for making a stand and re-drafting him through the PSD but for that amount Carlton can have him.
Amazing that such a lazy player will have made so much out of the AFL by the end of his career based solely on his junior record.
Martin is laughing all the way to the bank.

I would be telling the media and Martin and his management right up until the start of the psd that we will be redrafting him just to keep him on his toes

After reading all the Carlton fans gloating over their huge “victory” on the Draft & Trades Board, It would still be hilarious if we ended up re-drafting him anyway. He must’ve been on close to 600k/year here anyway, wouldn’t he?

Maybe the AFL can give him some of that ambassador money and tell kids up here, “look come and play AFL like Jack, don’t have to work hard, and earn a shitload”. That should appeal to the target audience.

Fair to say Carlton supporters are very full of themselves on the Martin thread. Wonder if they are this time next year. Time will tell. I am happy for Martin. He got his big pay day and for all the Blues supporters that are bagging our Club and culture for not bending over for accepting unders for someone you are willing to pay over a million for in his first year well let's just say F off. Personally as stated earlier I wish all the best for Martin however am relieved we will be cutting ties with someone that has checked out months ago. Looking forward to the draft with picks we can use.

Should we look at some talented players that are in that 14-22 player range for Carlton
Fisher, O'Brien etc..

If Carlton can afford to pay Cripps 1 mil +, Curnow, Mckay, Walsh, Docherty, Martin all 600-800k + SPS, Dow, Kruezer, Mcgovern, Plowman at 400 - 600k (all speculation)

Maybe guys like Fisher, O'Brien will be left wanting a piece of the pie that is not available.
If we could get Fisher for a 3rd round pick +300-350k per year - appropriate value given their offer for Martin - I'd do it for sure.

Better yet. If they’re uncontracted, take them through the PSD.

I can’t see us redrafting Martin but the business man in me leans towards redrafting him and then trading him as a contracted player next year. Regardless I am happy with the stand the club has taken

I will console myself with the thought that we have every right now to chase a Bloos player and offer SFA for him before sending him to the draft

If only they had good players (with the exception of Cripps) to go after

Anderson plays Rd 1 mainly due to his versatility, size and forward craft.

Much more advanced and ready than Luko was

Saw somebody post this in Knightmare's thread and thought it had some merit.

If GWS can't trade up to get in before the Green bid then maybe they would look to trade down with us for more points and future picks.

GC: 6 and future GWS 1st
GWS: 15, 20, future pick 11, and Lions future 2nd Rd (Ah Chee pick)

Points wise it is equivalent to pick 16 in favour of GWS.

If bid came for Green at 3 they would still have another pick around the 30 mark.

At pick 6 looking at whoever is left of Jackson, Kemp, Flanders, Serong, Young or Robertson
