We have spent a lot of time saying how much we need a forward pocket this year.

I think our biggest need is line breaking run from the back half.

Saad type run.
Our biggest need is to keep getting talent for any area on the ground we can use players in. The only difference now is that we need them up and running a bit sooner.

Andy Maher on the Carlton Show a few weeks ago mentioned that C Judd was very keen to introduce such a player on to the list.

To me
Fasolo
Garlett
Pickett
Lang
Are all gone off of the main list and Lebois off the rookie list
And either one of or both if we pick up a ruck
Phillips and Lobbe are gone.

So if we pick up Coniglio, Papley and a ruckman

That means we have 3 main list spots and no rookies spots unless we upgrade possible Gibbons.

If we pick up more players in the trade period I would say SOS has some tough call to make on Simpson and Thomas but also Kerr, Polson, Schumacher, Williamson and Macreadie.

Just a idea I don't see this happening but if we could get Jayden Short from Richmond I think he would be a good replacement for simmo

Why wouldn't Thomas be given another year?
It's only this year that he's got that zip back and has been an important part of the mix.

If Simpson was to retire, moving on Thomas would be silly. He'd probably end up at Gold Coast, if he wanted to go.

Its not all that silly TBH. As far as the Suns go, Thomas is a player they should be jumping all over for their list.

For those wanting run off half back similar to Saad, Lachie Ash from the draft would be a great pick up, may not make it to our pick but he is basically in the exact mould of Saad. Only issue is that he'd be another 18yr old and we could do with some more experience. Almost never seen him get caught when he gets going, always seems to know when to go and when to play it safe

In a continuation of my instructive series “I’m not as smart as I think I am”:

My sincere apologies to Matt Kennedy and Darcy Lang.

You can both play. You’re welcome to stay next year.

Going a bit early on Lang. Issue I have is IMO Lang is a midfielder and won't play that role for us. Can he then keep developing in another role? He was good yesterday but that needs to be the minimum and he needs to keep improving

Forget Lang. Only playing by default, because of injury to others.
Given what I'd seen in the NB's this year, he just doesn't impose himself in any fashion at all. We're just kidding ourselves here.

Keep Kennedy who'll bust a gut for you even though he didn't particularly deserve the call-up to senior ranks, but is making the most of things, playing a somewhat unfamiliar position.

Probably go in the top 5 champ.

Im banking on an Adelaide late season implosion and a few nuffie recruiters. Depending on other clubs needs he could get to 7-8 given most of the teams around us are in desperate need for KPP rather than running half backs
He's an incredible kick when hes at full speed, almost never see someone able to hit targets while in a full sprint, so wouldnt be surprised if he doesnt make it far down the order like you say

So is Lang. Why not keep both?

As you said, Kennedy wasn't banging the door down at VFL level either. Neither was LOB.

Lang has improved each week so far under Teague. If he keeps this up for the last 5 weeks no way he gets delisted.

The sudden disregard for Paddy Dow is criminal. He will be a genuine star. Explosive, tough, smart - a clearance machine in training.

The only obvious thing he needs to work on (outside of the usual fitness & size for any 1-3 year players who aren’t Walsh) is kicking consistency/composure. Once he does that, he is Luke Shuey v2.0.

IMO he is our best young midfielder aside from Walsh. He has had a lot asked of him & has carried a few niggles here and there, which can be particularly detrimental for young players trying to develop physically.

I agree, should have chosen my wording better. What I precisely mean is that he’s a good backup Lang. I had wanted him delisted because I didn’t see him as ‘competent’ but he is. He’s clean and doesn’t fumble. Good skills. Showed a couple of times his pace isn’t too bad. I’m a long way short of believing in him as best 22. But I’ll be happy to see him stay on the list and see what he can do with a full preseason.

Indeed. Lang is way down the list of potential delistees.

If I had my way, in order of delist preference:

1. LeBois
2. Lobbe (appoint as development/ruck coach)
3. Polson (buy out last year of contract unless we need money for potential targets)
4. Phillips
5. Kerr
6. O'Dwyer (if we could only transfer him to rookie list)
7. Garlett
8. Fasolo
9. Goddard
10. Schumacher
11. Lang

Interested to see how it goes...

I seem to have read you were happy with FASOLO today. This seems to be a developing trend. You’re a poster who’s opinion I USUALLY rate....wtf has happened to you?

In all seriousness....he was ok??

Yes, I was very happy. Which is why he wouldn't get delisted according to my preferences. I don't see us making 8 changes.

It would also be extremely harsh to delist him without seeing him again at AFL level under Teague. I think he still has something to offer, particularly if he commits to getting himself leaner.

My sarcasm sense is tingling, but I'm not quite getting a clean reading. I hope this was the correct interpretation...

Correct reading. I’m largely in ‘mucking around’ mode...but have been noticing you and your recent Fasolo obsession and wanted to know more about it....and you’ve given me nothing. So try again. Please? What have you seen in him?

Mine's fairly similar:

1. LeBois
2. Lobbe
3. Phillips
4. Kerr
5. Polson (re-rookie)
6. O'Dwyer (re-rookie)
7. Schumacher
8. Goddard
9. Fasolo
10. Garlett
11. Lang

In theory, we shouldn't make it past number 9, making for 7 off the senior list, although that would mean we wouldn't have any live picks at the rookie draft.

I see both you and Mr_Plow have placed Kerr fairly high in the "delist" category, just wondering why?

I don't get to see many NB games but generally see his name and he can put away a few goals and at one stage posters had him pushing for senior selection. Would it be irresponsible of the football club to delist the kid without even giving him a crack? Could he possibly be another Billy Gowers?

A few things impressed me:

1. Voice: he was one of our most vocal on the day. Williamstown were noticeably louder and Fasolo was the only one to really match their intensity.

2. Intensity: Fasolo was leading up at the ball carrier often, calling teammates into or out of space, tackling with intent and running with purpose.

3. Consistency: he was one of few who was genuinely engaged for 4 quarters, whilst other drifted into and out of the game.

For me, it's his difficulty in outworking even VFL defenders which doesn't really bode well for an AFL KPF career. Doesn't have a noted big tank, agility isn't a strength, isnt an exceptional contested mark, etc.

One attribute I do like is his craftiness around goal for a big man, he has nice touch.

Overall, he just does most things okay and I don't believe that he has the tools to trouble AFL defenders.

I mean he might find his way onto an AFL list at some stage, particularly if he finds another gear athletically, but he's going to have to work incredibly hard.
