News 2019 St Kilda Media Thread

In the last 3 seasons only 4 teams have missed finals from being in the top 8 after round 5.
They were,
Gold Coast in 2016
Bulldogs in 2017
North and Crows in 2018

Only bulldogs had won at least 4 games after round 5.

I’m not trying to get ahead of myself but they are really good odds for us.

Did anyone here put their heart ahead of their brain and make a bet on the Saints at the start of the year?

Geez with all the shit we've copped about Hanners it must be time for the media to start questioning the Wingard trade?

Look at what they gave up in comparison to us... and to be blunt Hanners has probably had a bigger impact on the playing group than Wingard has - whether he's on the park playing or not.

This guy is so impressive, and getting him on board is one of the few true pack-leading off field decisions we have made in years, probably decades. You can just tell from what he says (and what he hints at but won't say) that we are getting a genuine competitive edge from the statistical analysis that he and others are providing to the club.

Guys like him, and Ratts, and Lades, and Slater are all part of our early success and we now run the risk of other clubs poaching them with enticing offers.

Pre season we were 151 to 1 for the flag.

The odds naturally have been shrinking since.

34 to 1 as of yesterday.

He may be running fit but he struggles to bend and move. When he was running off to interchange it looks like he can’t run. I reckon he knows he is done even if we were struggling. So far off afl footy.

In 2016, NM won their first 9 games, but then slumped to 3-10 in their last 13. Scraped into the 8 ahead of us, immediately destroyed in QF. So form can be a wonderful or devastating thing

That’s a great read, thanks for posting.

Good on the club for getting IP from the American sport franchises. Drafting is such an integral part of their sporting leagues and, with the pool of talent bigger and there being more money floating around in their sports, no doubt there would be so much we could learn from the techniques they use to select players.

Would be great to see us get a leg up over other clubs using this knowledge.

can't win a flag with 22. every player on the list has a responsibility to try and have an impact. hopefully armo fights back and pushes a point for his selection.
