How do you rate the AFC's 2019 trade period?

Moderate fail overall. Would have been nice to get a bit more from Keath and we were reamed with Greenwood

Look more closely at the Jenkins trade - we have a GC 3rd round - so let’s say pick 38-39 next year for pick 37 this year. We pay half his salary too. Not complaining but he ended up worth less than zero

dropping from pick 3 (which is the 1st pick outside of Anderson And Rowell - GC will take both and you can take that to the bank) to pick 4 means that GWS can now deal with Melbourne on a possible pick swap so they can get in ahead of us and Sydney before a bid for tom green comes. They will be prepared to pay a big big premium to move up from 6 to 3. So for us, unless melbourne are simply not interested in a pick swap, we have no bargaining power with GWS as they can simply trade for pick 3 instead

Now that the trade period is over (barring picks) I feel a lot more frustrated that we just rolled over and accepted the priority pick GC rubbish. If that wasn't enough why did Fagan ask us to evaluate the decision after trade period? Having waited there is no clear win or balancer on our part! This was always going to be the likely case, but now that the time has arrived I really feel that we were gipped and gave up or quietly complained weakly.

If it was any other club that traded a future first last yr /w a team likely to finish bottom 3, only to have it bumped out an extra position (away from the top end players - what if CAR gave us 2 instead of 3 and we lost out on one of the top 2) I have a hard time believing we wouldn't still be hearing about it or that there would have been some sort of compensation given. Rubbish, that my biggest gripe. Of course the expected has happened but hat shouldn't lessen anyone's frustration.

In fairness to Reid, he went into the trade period with one hand tied behind his back

All the other clubs knew we wanted to move players on with not overly long futures ahead of them plus get rid of some fat salaries at the same time. The fact that some of these players also just wanted out didn't help either.

When related to ability, Greenwood was unders, but Gold Coast had us by the nuts by holding #1 in the PS draft. Payback comes next year when Lukosius walks out to come home.

Keath was definitely unders but Reid had the rug pulled out from under him when Keath's manager said he would not play with the Crows again . i.e. another PS draft threat.

Jenkins was a reasonable result as we did need another draft pick to cover our departures and in truth he was such damaged goods he had no currency

Of the 8 names above 7 come off of the senior list and CEY off the rookie list. It could mean that Riley Knight gets a 1 year contract.

We have 6 good draft picks plus Frampton to cover these 7 dapartures, so now it's over to Ogilvie for some magic in the draft.

Looking forward to that.

Adelaide have already lost the most player value to other teams. With 6 of those leaving conceivably walking into the best 22 of their new teams, that amount is going to swell to comical proportions.

Meanwhile Adelaide have acquired someone who has played 3 games in 5 years for Port Adelaide, and a bunch of chances to brag about how they recruited someone at pick #327 but actually turned out to be as good as a pick #291.

Jacobs and Betts will be lucky to play out the season, Jenkins doesn't have long left, CEY was a depth player for us, Greenwood borderline (and pretty much anyone is best 22 at Gold Coast). Keath is a loss.

I only see one, maybe two best 22 players that we lost. I don't care if rubbish players like Jenkins get games at other clubs

Having picks that equal 28 on points is not the same as having pick 28

Or do you think we'll be able to trade pick 37, 45 and 49 for pick 15?

Pick 15 - where did that come from?
My point being we got 32 for Keath plus a downgrades 3rd round. We got 37 and an early 4th round for Greenwood. So when you say we got teamed on Greenwood but about right for Keath just doesn’t make sense - we got arguably more for Greenwood than Keath and he could have walked to the PSD

Pick 37, 45 and 49 equal pick 15 in the points system
 
Anyone in here saying its a fail has no clue. Jerka, CEY, Betts, Jacobs were never going to bring back anything of note but has helped free up alot of cap space for next year and beyond. Whilst the Keath and Greenwood deals werent great both were uncontracted so your bargining power is less. They both could have walked to the PSD and we get peanuts. The melts then would be huge. We have a good draft hand and we can start to rebuild. We will be a different look side next year. Time to accept this list missed the mark, and we need to start fresh.
 
Yeah, Peter J hit the nail on the head with strategic pass.

Did what we had to do to clear out Betts, Jenkins and Jacobs which are all moves which became urgent once we decided on the refresh. Kept our upper echelon which gives Nicks some coverage to instigate a refresh, got 6 picks under 50 which gives us some potential to move up on, as well as prepared to be academy locked next year. I have warmed to Frampton as well, which offers to fix a few problems in the short term.

Still though, the Greenwood deal was shithouse, and outside of that, there isn't anything there that exceeds expectations so it's hard to praise this trade period.

No - disagree. None of the departed had any currency of note. Clean slate, fresh start. Positive moves.
But I do agree that we should revisit this thread in 2026 to properly analyse the results...
 
Think we could’ve extracted more value for Greenwood JJ and Keath. I also would have traded out Lynch.

BUT

I am so much happier with our list today than I was 2-3 months ago. We have no choice now but to play Jones Gallucci McHenry Fogarty Stengle for 22 games. That is a massive win. Plus I think Frampton has a lot of upside
 
IMO manybon here over rate both Greenwood and Keath

Looking forward to seeing how Keath goes playing deep on the number 1 or 2 forward week in and week out

Greenwood, great in the contest but struggles with the team defence because he just cant run both ways

Overall a pass mark for me

So ... IF we keep #4 and GWS get #3 - given those three picks are done and dusted- who would we target?

BUT - having asked that ... I actually doubt we will end up with #4
