Yeah in terms of output, he's fairly comparable to our Tory Dickson (funnily enough, they both kicked 50 goals in 2015 at their peaks). Tory will likely retire this year or next, so it would be nice to replace his goalkicking output with an experienced player.

As you said, the price is looking significantly higher this year. Could've gone for Pick 25-30 last year. Now, Saints wouldn't even look at anything that isn't a first rounder unless they're getting a player with it. More likely he's off the trade table entirely though
You've got Schache and Naughton, both potential guns. Let's not forget Tom Boyd. Well stocked in that area. Now you're premiership hangover is done you could be well set up. Ready to surprise a bit like us.

I wonder if Gubby can work his magic on his good mate Lachie Whitfield and get him to seek to break contract a year early and come over. He's just the player we lack
my sauce says hes off to hawks for pick 75

5 goals and 20+ touches in his third game. But nah good thing we got the “best available”

Rozee was a big saints fan too - so probably no go home factor. Nah big Max will be a beauty. He's here for a career, not a season. Etc, etc. FMD.

I liked rozee but don't write king off. King is a once in a generation tall forward!

So was Paddy. I hate the wait, tall forwards take a lot longer and ours is starting 6 months behind. I have become so used to never finding good players high in the draft, that I don't want to get my hopes up.
I was wrong about Rozee, I wasn't sold he'd translate to the AFL as well as he has.

Rozee looks a gun but we got the King twins, with one doing his apprenticeship in Queensland.

Max will legit be the best player in the AFL when he hits his straps.

I'm more shattered about the rotten luck that we've received from Paddy/Hugh's draft.

I wish you people would stop jinxing him, he'll for sure be like Kosi and Vickery's one legged love child now.

Then we just get him to join us when his contract expires then

paddy was never a once in a generation tall forward. i haven't heard anyone describe him like that. people more identified him as a throw back to something from 20 years ago. the paddy selection will go down as the worst pick 1 selection in the history of the modern era.

but king, for once the moons aligned. for once we had luck go our way. we somehow managed to get a guy who would have been a pick 1 lock, just because he did his ACL. yes we've taken the punt, but thank christ we still have the balls to take a punt on him. he was always going to be a work in progress/rehab for the first season. it's no different to say the lever, burton, stringer selections. the reason you select the bloke isn't so he has a ripping first season ala dunstan. it's so he is consistently good through out his career.

You can build a team around King - he's going to be that good. 204 centimetre forward who is quick and good below his knees? They don't grow on trees. I only hope his brother wants to join us and there's our defensive general too.

Don't forget Jack Bytel who was a top 10 lock before his injury. If he can get back on the park playing good football then he was a steal at 41 - a lovely size for a midfielder.

Both sound brilliant. Potential always does.

I guess we all may be a little gun shy due to our recent history with serious, long term injuries and premature retirements with another one possibly on the horizon....
Dempster, Paddy, Freeza, Koby, Robbo and the jury still out on Hanners.

Absolutely I get that and we have been dreadfully unlucky but I think Winx will be different. I think a 204 centimetre forward who marks the ball at its highest point are few and far between. He will eventually be a star and be very difficult to play on, (give the kid 3 years to get used to AFL as key position players take time). He was touted as a number one pick but for the injury which is one that plenty of players successfully come back from.

For some reason I am really positive and optimistic about King and think we are a great chance to get his brother over to the club also which would be a real coup. Happy to give up our 2020 1st round pick for Ben King also.

How do you know? He's not played yet even. Bytell was good in his under 17 year but again, these guys still haven't done anything. Freeman was pick 12 and injured, Hugh Goddard was a potential pick 1 in his under 17 year. I really don't want to get my hopes up with either, I hope they are both guns but both have done nothing yet.

The issue with marking in the TAC cup is that they tend to play one on one and not get zoned. Plenty of forwards don't adjust to the change. King looks like a tall small forward with evasive skills and snap goals in his repertoire but he's still anything from Vickery to Carey. Could even be an injury bust.

You're right I don't know for sure but I am basing it on 40 years of watching AFL which has to count for just a little bit. Of course if injuries raise their ugly head then it could be another Freeman or Goddard situation but you would have to be dreadfully unlucky if the injury curse kept on affecting our players like it has been.

As I said previously I am optimistic in this case. Am I going early? Yes. But based on watching AFL for as long as I have I think the kid will be a gun player and will be part of a group of players that will take us back up the ladder and play finals again.

You prefer to wait until you see it with your own eyes - I get that. I just think we have something special in Maxy and am making the call now :)

I'm not sure he was ever number one. Lukosius and Rankine were predicted a long way out. The King twins were definitely top 10 but it was a really strong top end of the draft. He was probably more of an unknown quality due to his injury, if he'd played a full TAC season he might have drifted out or firmed. It is what it is now and we just have to hope but I hate how we all bank the player early. We did it with Paddy, Goddard and Freeman. To me you just cross your fingers and hope the sun shines on you.

Stringer and Burton were definitely examples of drifting out injured players but there are plenty of examples of top 10 picks that are flops and the injury is beside the point either way. It can mean that that player is a bargain but we paid pretty much full value for King so not really a win there. Burton was SAs best young talent taken for pick 19 due to the leg break. Stringer is probably similar, he was a top 5 pick I think. He came back from his leg break and kicked like 9.7 in the first game back in TAC cup though.

We got spooked because of the massive coin paid for Buddie and Boyd.
Tall forwards we’re going to be the next Apple 🍎 Newton.

What did you see of him to base it on though? There were highlights and I watched the year before under 17 all stars game but what else did you watch?

I think he'll be a star. You prefer to wait until you see something more solid. I get that.

Why are you pushing the point? Do you want me to say I went and watched his whole U16 and 17 season and have followed his career since he was 12? Well I haven't. Do you want me to say that I have compared Max's stats to the top 20 performing KPF's of all times? Well I haven't. Are you happy now? You're being a prick Gringo - stop it.

I watched his highlights and U17 all stars and I have watched a lot of kids play over the years - some of whom have made it and some haven't. Based on what I have seen of Max and washing that against all the players I have seen I think he will be a gun and am making the call now. I don't make that call about every top 10 pick that we have taken.

Guess what? I could be wrong. But sure as hell when he makes it I'm going to remind you of this conversation!!!!!!!!!

Hey dude, sorry, I wasn't meaning to be an arseh*le, I want to believe but was hoping you had some evidence for it. I wasn't trying to show you up. I hope you can rub it in my face too.
