I think it's time to accept we have a long way to go to be truly competitive. Most of our wins come from effort rather than brilliance

Time to go bloody aggressive in the trade period and be willing to sell quality for really early picks. Having a long list of C graders isn't getting us anywhere.

The problem is - we don't have much that will attract genuine interest. We are in a catch 22 and i fear it's gonna take a few years to break out of it.

Yep, unlike Melbourne we won't be kissed on the dick with pick 3 from the AFL. We don't have anyone of value that we can afford to trade.

What we do have is 3 top 8 picks from the past 2 years in Coff, Clark and King that we need to get games into. Add another top 8 pick this year and hope we can get some elite players out of that group.

I think we have a potential gun ruck in Marshall, a potential gun FF in King, a potential gun CHB in Battle, potential gun mids in Gresh and Clark.

Need to find a couple more gun midfielders.

I personally think we have the core players. The spine is there. Just need some quality mids and more mids.

That might be where we differ. I reckon he would be on no more than 300k. Well I hope not.

The Average player is on around $400.000, and given that the Saints haven't been pinged for not paying the minimum, and the number of games Newnes is selected for each year, and his age, I'd expect him to be on at least the average.

We should maybe entertain the idea of trading Roma and Gresh. They both seem like great lads... poor blokes are too good for St.Kilda and don't deserve to play for this rabble.

I like the sound of Mitch ONeil from Tasmania. Small and lightly framed but finds plenty of the footy and a good user.

Another is Dylan Stephen's from Norwood. Another lightly framed midfielder but playing senior footy in the SANFL. Good skills and moves well in traffic.

Didn't realise he didn't make the metro side. He was in some pretty good form early.

Unfortunately we don't have a pick around that mark but that could change.

I've heard we're heavily into Gawn. Dees fear outcome when he becomes UFA in 2021 - happy to look at trade next year.

Marshall to be on traded to get draft options for Gawn deal.

We have burned a couple of 1st rounders on average ruckmen and traded out another 1st round ruckman in McEvoy , and we could have got Gawn (who went pick 34 , a local from Sandringham U18's )
instead of choosing Nick Winmar who went a couple of picks earlier.
If we were to get Gawn , then good. Just not give up Marshall in the process , as our decisions on ruckmen
have been a bit ordinary.

Steele's the best of the lot currently & Hannebery isn't going anywhere. So we really should look at offloading the other two.

We need to name a new coach before the end of the season who can bring a little hope and hopefully attract some big free agents. Spend some big money on high quality mids and bring them in. Replacing Ross and Dunstan with a couple of genuine A graders will have a remarkable impact on our W/L

is steele's best better than dunstan's? Lays more tackles but Dustan has him for contested possessions and clearances

simple...just replace Ross and Dunstan with 2 A Grade mids. (like Kelly and Dusty? Fyfe and Treloar? Laverde and Polec?)

I think the problems lies in their pace. As good as Dunstan has been when he is bad he is really bad because he has no tricks at all. Ross is pretty similar to do but can at least run with the ball. The midfield looks ok individually but as a group it looks very ordinary.

Just watching the Vic champs game. Shame we won't have a top two pick. Those two kids look like stars.

Young looks a very good player, but another half back flanker.

I really like the look of Serong, very small but clean off the deck and gas good pace.

Flanders looks like a very good player but probably more or a forward flanker than a midfielder.

Biggie nothing to get too excited about.

Flanders got a bit of it through the middle in the first champs game but hasn't been able to make huge impacts playing midfield in the TAC cup. If he continues to prove he can play as a midfielder through the champs I'll jump on board, but the last thing we need is another flanker we hope will turn into a midfielder.
