I find some of the sentiment that the gc should wither due to the decisions of admins past a little surprising given we have been through the same situation. Now I know the picks we got weren't anywhere near this but we got helped massively off the field. Not all help will be the same in every case

I agree with the Suns rescue package . We've done ok put of them so have nothing to whinge about.

The reason we never got any rescue packages was because we'd won 3 flags the previous decade , that was enough success the other clubs could swallow for us, plus the AFL were totally focused on GWS and the Suns to spend any time worrying about us.

We've done it ourselves. Which is better.

So for this year's draft the Suns get the same as the Lions got in 2016 a first second round pick. All other Clubs would have been expecting this so no need to adjust any forward planning on 2020 draft night. Everyone just looses one spot from 21 on. They also get to add a couple of extra spots on the rookie list which should be helpful. They may find a gem in Darwin only time will tell but still a positive for the Suns

In 2020 all clubs lose a pick after pick 11 once again all clubs share the burden.Hopefully they use this well. Can they use it this year to say get Crouch or another player ??.
By 2021 it's back to pick 20 but it would not surprise me if the AFL activate's this-

"While the package is set for three years to provide certainty to players, staff and the entire industry, the AFL Commission retains the right to remove future picks and / or academy access based on the club’s performance."

They just mentioned on trade radio they are expecting Zac Williams to re-sign within the next 4-6 weeks.

They get a start of first round pick this year too (pick 1 or 2 depending on which one you count as the priority pick).

But they did. AFL appointed Evans and DEW plus this package. Ours is not a tenth of what GC have received over the last three years.

Difference is the set up of GC was crap... and all the people who set it up years ago now work for the AFL. They needed the help.

Sorry you are correct.
I should have read the very first sentence of the article my bad.
All Clubs will just have to deal with the leg up. They certainly need the short term help.

Yet we are the only club without a proper facility . Gold Coast facilities are state of the art compared to what we currently have . Perhaps throwing all the cash at Ablett , bock , Campbell, browns and Brennan’s wasn’t the right way to go . I’m all for them helping Gold Coast but the assistance they have been given here totally compromises other teams . How can you even do future trades when you don’t know what the afl are going to award a certain team . The gold coast is a graveyard will never ever be a success and the afl will lose millions. .

Barrett reporting that CEY has been offered 3 years by us both on the radio and on Access All Areas.
I was just about to comment on the "4 year contract" issue and the need for some reliable evidence. It may well be a 3 year contract with appropriate trigger clauses for a 4th year - or even 2 years with a trigger for a 3rd year. The reality is we do not know the facts at this stage and it is time to chill.

Option A: no assistance and 3 premierships.

Option B: heaps of draft picks and no premierships.

I'd take B.

Just about everything in the AFL is comprised.

Draft, fixtures, travel, NGA's etc.

We actually got our facilities approved this year mate. AFL kicked in for them.

Let's face it The AFL make the rules up on the run.. when our club was on its knees 4/5 years ago they sat on their hands and did nothing. Finally when Leppa was being shown out the door and the club was at rock bottom did they realise something needed to be done. We got an extra second round pick and some assistance with securing Noble and Fagan. Getting those two wonderful leaders into out club has been the trigger to our re birth. The Suns can be offered all the picks in the world but if they don't get the front office right then they will just tread water.

Naturally with the Suns getting extra picks our trade with them has been pushed back two spots! Talking about bailing them out of that mess. Hope we are not offering them anything less than a pick in the 30s or 40s for Ah Chee.

Ant whispers on the delistings? Club holding off for as long as possible to see if any have trade value perhaps? With CEY and Ah Chee looking extremely likely and at least one rookie in Oscar needing to be upgraded you would imagine we would need to delist/ trade out about 5 at a minimum.

Yeah, i was thinking that it was odd that two AFL.com.au journos were reporting different contract lengths. 3 year with a trigger for a 4th sounds like it would fit both reports. Certainly looks like we will have to wait and see when the deal goes through.

The CEY pickup is something i would expect us to do 2-3 years ago, not with the current list. Real kick in the face to Mathieson, Lyons, Smith and Starcevich. Plus side is he is free. Real strange pickup considering his lack of pace and that we already have a few inside mids playing reserves.

Not really. He's mature aged depth who is best 22 or at the very worst a good depth player.

I can understand not rating him, but adding Midfield depth is not strange, regardless of the type. We need it. Hopefully we address the need for speed elsewhere, but that doesen't mean we neglect other areas. The only inside mid we have in the ressies this could be seen as a slight on is Matho.. Hardly terrible having one back up inside mid only when we have a perfectly healthy list?
