Nobes seemed a little pi$$ed that we didn’t receive a bit more help during our time of need. IMO the future pics that the suns receive is too generous

Yeah, I got the impression that had we not had such a good year he would have been much more blunt. Played it pretty well, I reckon. Got his frustration across without wanting to detract from the strides we have made despite the lack of support.

Yeah because Lyons worked we should just have a team of slow inside mids, great idea buddy. I have faith in Noble and Fagan but i don't think this is the right move with the current landscape of our midfield.
Calling people Buddy and Champ is really shit form just quietly.

Probably need this many concessions just to get one or two long term players as most will toddle off back to Ma's cooking in a couple of years

Yep, worked well for Patty Karnezis lol [emoji487]

Same people doubting CEY's recruitment would have been the same ones doubting us grabbing Lyons for basically nothing last season.
It's clear as day we need tough mature bodies to help Neale, Zorko, Berry and Robinson. We can't hope for an A grader to come to us every season. I'd back the list managers and coaches who got us within a kick of a PF.

I do agree with Noble that our mids were a bit worn down at the end of the year whereas Richmond came into the finals really firing . Stronger harder bodies . And more depth.

In hindsight it's an incredible effort to be competing with these teams given their resources ,support and the fact that they can just go and get a Lynch for nix to round things up nicely

Yeah nice just pick a theme that fits your arguement. We were one of the best clearance and contested teams last year, both times we lost against Richmond we beat them in both clearances and contested ball. If you decided to actually take note of what lost us the games against Richmond and Collingwood it was our inability to match their speed in the midfield. CEY is a good depth player but not worth a 3 year contract and does not have the ability to really playing else where on the ground and does not add another dimension to our mid group. Also Treloar is not a big bodied midfield by the way champ.

There's no need to be using condescending and passive aggressive comments like champ and buddy when replying to people. Your first point was valid albeit i disagree with some of it but there's no need to cheapen it with the last bit.

FWIW 3 years is a decent term but it really comes down to dollars. if its 3 years on $300K then it really doesn't bother me too much, even if the first year is more and then it backs down after that then its still a pretty good deal and worth it when you're not giving up draft picks to do so. We're about to see some turnover from that middle age backup talent on our list so it makes sense to bring some more in. Whether he will be any better than what we have remains to be seen but there are guys on the list who are known quantities in our system and they're bringing in a guy that they believe will be at least a match if not an upgrade. I don't mind adding a guy who has some experience tagging either, its an area we really lack at present if we decide to go that way on matchups.

Having 2 lyons types on the list isn't bad strategy, especially when they both have injury histories in their pasts, its covering a range of scenarios from one of them going down, to playing a more contested team where you've got some bigger bodies to compete against and pace isn't quite as big a factor. If we can bring Berry along in that Mitch Robbo wing role going forward while rotating through the middle then its a win as well and having those bigger mids means if we were to have an issue in the ruck we still get some height up forward to help our structures out.

Yeah seems so, also dangling them out there sort of encourages tanking does it not?

What struck me this year in the games we lost was that when the opposition won a clearance, and in particular a centre clearance, there was a good chance it was clean and set up a relatively easy chance for goal. It was noticeable against Richmond, Essendon, Collingwood and even though we won the match, Geelong.

Admittedly they are/ were elite, but Ablett just shovelling it out their defensive side to an unchallenged Dangerfield who could then run through the centre square and either kick the goal, or set up something forward was too easy.

I know you can never win every clearance, but especially now with the 6-6-6, it's important that when you do lose one, it's pressured and doesn't allow the opposition a calculated kick forward.

I'd suggest CEY will help us in this regard immensely.

Our first choice midfield is also a bit on the short side, a nice tall mid like CEY should pair nicely with Berry. We need the depth and mix. We are playing a very contested ball, clearance winning style of footy, so it does not surprise me to see us bring in players to perform that roll. You simple need to have depth.

Everyone keeps talking about how to beat the Tigers, well in both flag seasons they used over 35 players during the season. Depth not only helps performance, but breeds a high performing environment. Bring CEY in doesnt impact someone like Matho at all. Just means he gotta up his game.

The subtext to this package is that things are absolutely dire at the Suns. This is lifesaving surgery.

Waiting for Lukosius and Ben King to be wrapped up with Ambassador packages so they'll stay longer.

Yet we are the only club without a proper facility . Gold Coast facilities are state of the art compared to what we currently have . Perhaps throwing all the cash at Ablett , bock , Campbell, browns and Brennan’s wasn’t the right way to go . I’m all for them helping Gold Coast but the assistance they have been given here totally compromises other teams . How can you even do future trades when you don’t know what the afl are going to award a certain team . The gold coast is a graveyard will never ever be a success and the afl will lose millions. .
They had far less than us until the beginning of 2018. Cramped as our gym is, they were training out of tin sheds. And we're getting our state of the art training facilities soon enough.

The CEY pickup is something i would expect us to do 2-3 years ago, not with the current list. Real kick in the face to Mathieson, Lyons, Smith and Starcevich. Plus side is he is free. Real strange pickup considering his lack of pace and that we already have a few inside mids playing reserves.

CEY will be good depth or competition for the big body midfielder spot. It will help us match up on cripps fyfe types in stoppages. We clearly did not have anyone in list who could go with them this year.

If the Suns still had Lynch and Prestia, then ....

Good excuse to pull out one of my favourite post-trade period exaggerations :tearsofjoy: :

Good old Patty K. The clearest ever example of how much being a good player depends on whats between the ears. Had all the tools (as well as being one).

people whinging about CEY are probably the same nuffies who whinged when we got Robbo up here. And Mcarthy, and Adams....

In faganism we trust

And paying pick 12 for Charlie.

It was more the Carlton culture he had come from...trying to be a big player in the AFL with the old VFL Carlton mindset.

Carlton fans wanted to keep Mitch as he was a heart and sole of the club kinda guy.

And they were right 😁

Good for footy imo. Make it count Suns.

If they can make it count for them - ok.

But I’ll struggle if they package up picks to trade to other clubs who end up doing better. Even if it is us. They need to climb out of the pit.

He can potentially be used just as effectively in an offensive role to take the ball out cleanly from a tight clearance breaking a few tackles.
