Weird that Brodie smith is still being linked to us.

The Crows are also likely to farewell Eddie Betts (Carlton), Sam Jacobs (GWS), Hugh Greenwood (Gold Coast), Brodie Smith (Brisbane) and Cam Ellis-Yolmen (Brisbane) this trade period

Kind of self inflicted and also in part due to AFL house with their start up. This is way overs, way overs and the only thing it is going to cause is absolute dislike of the Suns from the rest of the AFL.

GWS seem to me to be more hated due to the sheer size of the draft concessions granted to them. Way way more than the suns, or for that matter the bears, were given.

The suns are just a joke and a disgrace. At the start I was anti suns cause of the effect it had on us, but I seem to have mellowed and now just want them off the bottom of the table.

Imo GWS are more hated purely because they've actually been successful.

Suns really needed this. I’m all for it and really hope they make the most of it.

What do you think of the Darwin zone/prelisting of academy players cotter?

Any chance the suns get a first round quality player for free over the next 3 years?

Maybe??

“They will also be able to pre-sign Academy players without having to match rival clubs' potential bids for the next three years – starting in 2019 – although the AFL will review this annually.

Alex Davies, a smooth-moving 189cm midfielder drawing Pendlebury comparisons, projects as a first-round pick next year.

However, these new circumstances mean Gold Coast will score him for nothing.“

There was a gws article about the three non negotiable things they did when they started-

Only draft youth, prepare them for losing and use it to build resilience and fir the first two years force everyone to live and breathe every moment together to fast track rapport and friendship.

Hope suns read their playbook and find bits to apply that work for them.

Imagine if Gws and Gold coast seasons were swapped. Beating us by 3 points at the gabba and making the gf. Would've made Wonders for QLD footy.

Lol I’d be hating on them big time. And remembering every slight against us.

According to Twitter, Noble commented on Birchall rumours, true?

He said that Hawthorn might need to keep Birchall and that we are open to bringing in a Hodge type player if the situation is something the club needs, as Hodge was.

I can't wait to see the meltdowns here when the Sun's smack us in a few years when all this talent develops or next year if they manage to snag some big names with the draft hall that has been given to them......I mean I am all for goodwill to others but the outpouring for the Sun's on here is laughable..... Yes. they need help ( and they got it...... A truckload IMO)....yes. A successful Sun's is great for the AFL....but do I want them to have success ...... absolutely not.... Lions all the way for me

After we go back to back to back again, I'd prefer the Suns to beat us in a Grand Final than Port.

I’m happy for them to always be one place lower han us. A lions/suns grandfinal would be fantastic - imagine the league wide melts.

All NSW or SA or WA would be a treat too. After our next three peat of course.

Yeah I would love this to be the case but to channel my negative side for a moment..... I think it would be reasonable to think that with their draft hall from last year and 4 picks within the top 20 and the ability to trade the mid first round pick from next year for a top end talent and not mention the acquisition of Ellis could see them surpass us in the near future....and it could be nearer then some might think......time will tell ....would love to be wrong

Looks like we won't be knowing what will be happening to a few players till the end of trade period..

Noble did state the club is on the lookout for someone that can break the lines across half-back and said the future of former Rising Star winner Lewis Taylor won't be decided until after the Telstra AFL Trade Period is complete.

"We have said to a few (players) we need to get through the trade period to assess (where they stand)…Lewy (Taylor) is one we certainly want to talk to, “ Noble said.

"We have got to continue to strengthen our list with whatever it looks like
."

I think the biggest mistake GC made was the priority players they chose. Ablett, Bock, Brennan, Rischitelli, Brennan, Harbrow, Fraser vs Ward, Davis, Scully, various other just about retired players.
Harbrow's been great for them, Rischitelli stuck around for a long time but had a lot of injuries and was pretty underwhelming otherwise.

IMO the suns concessions are too generous. BUT as someone said it shows how dire the situation is there. If this doesn’t work then the afl will really be in a pickle.

Why do I think they are too generous? They get 4 guaranteed top 20 picks over 3 years. AND If they get 1 first round academy player over next 3 years and 1 top 20 Darwin player that makes these concessions equivalent of 6 top 20 picks for free! (And could top up with more ‘free’ player rated 20-50).

They have an opportunity to be smart like gws and trade for future picks to drag the benefits of these concessions out over the next 5-8 years.

Their rookie list extension makes the mid season draft a lame duck for other clubs. Gold Coast will pick 4/5 extra players who would otherwise be mid season draft picks for their rookie list. Of course some players (like nobles son) will unexpectedly pop up to get picked but suns can stockpile second tier talent.

Good luck to them, with Ellis, Greenwood in and picks 1/2/15/20 + any picks for Martin and Ah Chee they are well placed to at least solidify their performances like we did in 2018 with another year into lukocious, king, rankine, Ainsworth, Brodie as well.

On the flip side I don’t really buy the afl didn’t help us. I think we should have got more or higher picks (Eg pick 1 or 11 instead of 18 the year we got assistance), but the afl helped us off field with noble at least, if not fagan as well. That has proven to be the help we needed, where as Gold Coast clearly need on field help. These picks are as much about convincing the talent that’s there to stay as the new talent they will directly lead to. The pick arsenal also gives them the hand to retain pick 1/2 and trade for an experienced player (like crouch) this year. Eg 15 this year + 11 next year for crouch.
