I wouldn't be too hard on Dodongo. I know we thought we had him.

But I'm not disappointed at all. He's a good smart little player with injury concerns.

Plus it might've just thrown a few of our up and coming guys off .

Plenty more fish in the sea.

....do we really need more fish at this stage though? What about developing our own from the premiership NEAFL team?

I really hope we’re having a good look at Sam Murray. Averaged 21 disposals in 2018 & he’s still only 22 years old. Would provide some great dash off half back and would cost us nothing.

I really think he has the same vibe as J.Lyons. Cost nothing & has huge amounts of upside.

Plus he'd add a lot to the mad Monday celebrations

You mean how Lyons is very clever, could coach on field and lead the way off the field?

Dodongo just thinks At the end of the day we may have missed out on someone that would have made our forward line dangerous but at the same time we have put a small dint in their salary cap and will have contributed to it bursting.
Our forward line was #1 for scoring in the competition this season....think we already have a dangerous forward line now.

Noble Summary.

- Not looking for a tall forward, backing our Guys in.

- Not getting Birch for leadership, not looking to fill the Hodge Role (we feel we are ready experience wise) getting him for a running half back

- No one else on the radar after Elliot fell through, not desperately seeking to be active

- Lewey and Cuts not required players and looking at options

- Happy with where they are at not desperate to change things too much

- Didn't indicate there were more irons in the fire in terms of players we are looking at

Perception is a funny thing.

I took from that that we aren’t strongly considering Birchall.

On cutler and Taylor they have been told that their place on the list cannot be determined until post trade period and the club told them to explore options. They are required but if they got interest elsewhere the club will look at it.

Murray is a terrible kick and has been out of footy for 18 months.
Saad and McKenna are both not the greatest kicks, but the run and ability to break the lines outweighs it. Same with Murray and its exactly what we lack.

Surely we should be targeting Murray and Butler, both fill holes in our list and would come extremely cheap.
I'd be all for getting Dan Butler particularly if Allen Christensen and Ben Keays are on their way out the door, he offers a goal a game and great forward pressure and has been at the most successful club over the last 3 years, couldn't get much of a go this season so would come cheap and would be great depth at least.

Listening to Damian Hardwick after their GF win he said they really value highly guys like Butler, Rioli, Castagna, Bolton, Baker who while they don't get big possession numbers they play an extremely important role.

With Trade Radio and trade talk almost 24/7 now, I reckon most possible trades have been flushed out and I don't think there will be any surprises for us much from here on...Ah Chee and CEY are probably it for 2019 and now it will be all about getting into our best draft position possible with some trading up of picks.

Yeah I would agree on your assessment of the Birchell situation - I would say interest is 'cool', Was more just saying, he indicated, if we did get him, it's not about filling the 'Hodge role' or leadership, it's strictly needs based because we need a running half back. There has been lots of debate about 'why' we are linked to Birch, he clarified that strongly.

I am sure he used the term 'not required' in terms of Cuts and Lewey, he certainly didn't say they are 'required' - so reading between the lines, we have suggested they look elsewhere for their best opportunity. They are doing that and depending on what they want to do, we would consider holding onto them.

I suspect Birchall is our fall back plan if other options don't come to fruition. I wonder if there is an established back flanker that we're talking to who hasn't been mentioned in the press yet.

Sounded more last minute and rushed to me.
I agree with you hear. Sounded more like a last minute pitch and we have something else in the pipeline! I just feel there is a reason we still have so many players out of contract, we are working on a few other players to come in!
