Manager said his body is good and will be ready for round 1 . May of been a factor in lions getting him . Let’s back our guys in could be a great pick up if he gets a good run with injury . 1 year deal so we don’t lose much if it doesn’t work out .

without hodge last year we aren't top 4. I'll back that statement. His leadership saved us countless times. We are young down back. Rich is a good player but he's not really an on field leader, Andrew's still learning. Birch will provide the older head that we still need. Hodge was a god but Birch will be damn good replacement.

Simply don't understand the Birchall trade.

Did you see his games this year?
Still a great player if we can get his body right and a good stopgap until we can develop or get a good HBF

I think our previous administration has caused some scars. Voss's recruiting spree and others have made us doubtful.

Something the last 3 years has showen me is those days are gone. We may still make a mistake here and there. But no one can fault Noble and Fagan.

If they think Birchall will fit in. Go for gold I say.

So which young player misses out to accommodate Birchall?

Most...he probably shacks up with Fages or Hodge....another Tasmanian to the list..

Young bloke named Hodge

Hodge did a great job and we will be forever grateful. Birchall is not Hodge. The price we paid for Hodgie was Cutler being pushed out and is now leaving as he’s had no opportunities. Who’s the next Cutler?

Hodge was one of our best players in our 2 finals this season. Harris, our vice captain, looked a bit out of sorts. Understandable for a 21 year old guy in his first year of finals. We want to go further next year. Fingers crossed Birchall gets close to fully fit, he is a great player. Personally, I think it is a great get.

From Birchall's point of view, it's a pretty big move for a year. Might be the potential for a coaching role afterwards perhaps.

His manager said while it's only a 1 year contract he hopes to play for 2-3 years.

I know there was reported interest prior to trade period from Carlton & Essendon for Cuts...Listening to his manager the other day I'm not sure there is that interest from other clubs...he even stated he would have to be off working the phones...

Cutler would be best 22 and staying with Brisbane if he could adhere to structures and do the team thing which is ultimately his downfall as a player. That's why he's going, not because Birchall is joining us.

Also worth noting first and second year players were best 22 over Cutler too which is very telling and corroborates the above.
