the Honeymoon is over for the new boys and they’re all out there this morning. They all joined the early drills before moving onto their separate running programs with Darcy and Conca.
Hogan and Tucker on light duties. Both did the sandpit before having a quick kick. Hogan seems to be doing more and more kickingeach session.
Sonny and Collyer in the gym.
Didn’t see Kersten,McCarthy,Meek, Pearce or Bennell but I have a history of missing the odd one or two
S Hill and Mundy doing a heap of running. Mundy didn’t seem keen to kick the Ball early but that may not mean anything.
Loving the intensity of some of our forwards at training. Cox looks fit and switched on, swita buzzing around everywhere and Tabs looking great.
Of the newbies, Sturt looked a bit nervous and shanked a few early. Valente was put in Sandis group doing clearance work which is awesome. He has an awesome kick on both legs.
Absolutely love Schulz. He runs through the ball when marking over head and has incredibly strong hands and intensity that could teach the older boys a thing or two.
Bewley ran down B Hill at full speed which is very impressive.
Lots of short sharp pressure drills where the skills looked great under intense pressure.
I left early again so hopefully the other viewers can shed light on the last part of the session and, of course, the loads that I missed.

Great work. I’m excited!!!

Valente sounds quality

Schults and Bewly sound very savvy pick ups

More tackles. And long kicks to.. no where. He better play more into the 50. He’s wasted in the centre rebounding from defence.

FP or Peel, that should be it. Colyer and possibly Shultz should provide decent competition at least.

With our current small forward list health I see it being very hard for Crowden, Giro and Matera!
Hopefully we stay injury free and these blokes all start at peel and build pressure on spots.

It’s a long pre-season, let’s not gaze at crystal balls, but see how they train, and who gets the gigs in the preseason games. Before making Nostradamus like predictions!

so shut the board down until round 1 you reckon?

Man those were the days back at Freo oval. Worked a bloody treat that scooter bike.

Sonny was using that today. He seems to have a little problem with one of his legs.

Also, why is Cerra doing a lot of work away from the main group? Did he have off season surgery?

I asked him about the extra running today and he said he is just penciled in for extra running this pre-season. It is just my opinion but I personally think they are trying to build his tank as he did hit the wall quite early last season.

AP also said today he is only doing 2 of the 3 sessions up until Christmas and then will slowly bleed into the full lot once they get back. He isn't injured or had any offseason surgery either. He said it is what he was doing last year and they are going to start increasing it until he is doing the full load. He is fine and said if there was a game tomorrow he would be playing.

I am assuming they were all in the gym as each of them bar Cam made an appearance at some stage from inside.

Sincere apologies. I was going off what I’ve seen so far at training. I will tone down my opinion and continue to give you the facts.

Great work, thanx
The Hill rundown by Bewley sounds super impressive. He was passed on in last years draft because of concerns about his pace according to a write-up I read about unlucky 2017 draft hopefulls. Im thinking he worked on his speed last season and has improved a ton. Ran under three seconds for the 20 metre sprint at state draft testing, which doesnt mean much in isolation, but combined with outstanding endurance you'd think he could maintain his top pace for longer than most afl players.

Also, cant help but be positive about Valente. Ill be interested to see how he goes in any sprint work as that seems to be the only knock. I could be wrong but there seems to be a bit of Neale about him in that he just excels when the footballs come out like Lachie did in his early days at training and Luke has better kicking. Early days obviously, but lots to like at the moment.

Is there any sign of Luke Ryan? I havent heard him mentioned, apart from one poster saying they saw him walking with a limp.

Finally! Deboer was our last forward who did this, we need some strong hands on the lead!

Ryan was there and looked fine. He always has a weird gait

Valente was doing some kicking with Watson and Schultz. All look to be neat kicks able to go comfortably of either foot.

Valente has a little thing where he pushes back quickly 4 or 5 steps and then wheels onto his opposite foot. I can't help thinking football brain at work drilling himself off his own initiative. He looked able to hit the target consistently with left or right with the ball staying low and getting there quickly.

Watching Sandi and Lobb doing a contested marking drill was interesting. Two very big units indeed.

Hamling is a hard bloke to beat in the air. Wilson's kicking is a thing of beauty. S Hill, Mundy, Conca and Cerra churning out the laps.

Tabs is in ripping nick and is training hard but I cringed when he dropped a simple uncontested mark because his hands where too hard - shades of "Iron Gloves" for those that remember it. I still hope he keeps improving and pushing for selection. I just like the bloke.

More running today than when I watched a couple of weeks ago but still plenty of ball work and quite a lot of banter which is good to see. Ross casting an eye over proceedings but letting the assistants run the drills.

Seems to be a pretty good vibe among the younger guys - I'm feeling optimistic.
