2020 Draft and Trades Thread

Random thought... Is there a chance we won’t use any draft picks this year if we pre-draft our top 3 academy players. Ie. Davies, Jeffrey & Lake.

Trade away pick 5 for an A grade player or possibly for a future 1st & 2nd rd pick to a bottom 8 team? Crows/North might be interested.

Our remaining picks used to trade in players or trade out for future picks.

Trade Brodie/Wright for future picks.

Set ourselves up for a big draft haul next year when U18 comps are in full swing again and lists numbers might be increased again?
You'd want to be getting something worthwhile if giving up a top 5-6 pick.
I wouldn't want to get 2 later first round 2021 picks for instance.

Trade it for a true A grader - sure

Trade it for a pick that could be worse than the pick we have now - nah, we have come out on the wrong end of trading for future picks (WCE, Lions, missing out on Clayton Oliver)

We traded 11 for 23 last year, we aren’t great at this trading gig

would would we part with pick 5 for?
Rory Atkins at this rate haha, on the available open market right now Jordan De Goey/Darcy Moore is worth 5 and/or our future first. No one really worth just 5 unless Andy McGrath is actually trying to leave. Ben Brown is worth 15-25 now since North don't want him

Philips is good but he isnt on the same level as Rowell imo, Rowell was by far and away the number one pick in the draft last year Phillips might not even go top 5
Key positioned players is probably the major difference. Phillips is still the best mid in the draft. Just like how Bailey Smith was and he went at 7 (plus interstate sook)

Walsh was the better performed mid in 18, Smith has the higher ceiling but Walsh was comfortably the better performed player at the time of the draft. Similar to Rowell and Anderson.
Phillips hasn't been anywhere near as prolific as Rowell, shame we won't get to see him play this year.

Yeah he looked pretty impressive when i watched last year. Just does the job, as the 3rd main man too. Prefer to trade that pick 5 tho

I think he will be a high level accumulator with a break of pace, I would of loved to see how he went as the main man. I have a nagging feeling he might not be an elite player. But im not a recruiter or a talent scout, just a nuffie who watches to many u18 games haha

Yeah he does seem to handball alot. One game he had 3 kicks 30 handballs.

Lachie Neale was a handball happy player too at Fremantle. They can always develop their game.

We need a line breaking mid who can kick or at least kick long. Danger/Treloar/Kelly type which Noah Anderson seems like he can develop into but don't want to put all my eggs into a 2nd year player. This draft the only bloke that high is Nathan O'Driscoll but i guess Phillips has far better qualities overall

Take advantage of the unrest at Essendon and try and lure Merrett. I know its a small chance but would be a good pick up. Clubs took advantage of us when we were down I'd like us to do the same

Not putting the kid down, but anyone being compared to Rowell sucks for that poor sod. Rowell is a special, generational one-of-a-kind mix of elite talent and hard work. If Phillips is anything close to that he'd be going number 1 no question, not outside the top 4.

I mean, Rowell was leading the brownlow after 4 rounds for heavens sake. Some people in the media forgetting just how good he was.

see Fox Sports below, this shakes things up a bit, not sure if it applies to both NT and Academy players

WHO ARE THE FATHER-SON & ACADEMY PROSPECTS TO FOLLOW?

There are a stack of prospects to follow with the Western Bulldogs, Collingwood, Fremantle, Port Adelaide and Sydney Swans likely needing to match bids on players inside the first round. The Swans could have to match bids Braeden Campbell and Errol Gulden, with the pair both impressing over the last two seasons. The Power’s Lachie Jones has starred in the SANFL League competition this year, while Gold Coast are likely to receive a big boost with two players not needing to have bids matched due to their priority rules brought in last year. The draft order is sure to move around with picks and points sliding up and down as required.

Keep 5 , trade out second Rd GCS , Brisbane for future pick . Based on history whoever trade in will get injured and pick 5 become a gun or 200 gamer in AFL .

Shaw is looking for a gig next year - realize we have just got rid of Hanley but a Good bit of tough experience down back for peanuts

Is slow but provides voice and leadership which we are in short supply of. Plus if Harbs was in the best 22 at year end then Shaw is a walk up start in the same position.
