Not sure how we or any other teams can be signing more players whilst there is still uncertainty around the list sizes and salary cap going forward?

Whilst I've been down on Atkins it all depends on the contract.
IF we are giving him 3 years at max 1 million that's fine, I'll definitely take him.
If we are giving him 4+ years at 500k / year - that is a bad contract.
The reality is we probably don't have the cap room to give him 4+ at 500.

I'd say it's more like a Greenwood deal, where he took a lower pay for more years. So yeah, probably 350-400 over 4 years with a trigger maybe.

We are paying Greenwood peanuts for his output so far. I feel a little bad. He's played like a 600k player this year. Think he's only getting half that.

Thinking about if the club was wanting to get him they must be thinking that maybe he could take over from a cooked Harbrow/Hanley as a player who can provide rebound out of the back half.
Exactly why they are chasing him. Fiorini was looked at but doesn't have penetration by foot.
Front loaded while our young stars are on 1st and 2nd contracts.
It's not close to what's been reported on the Crows board.
We're are also looking at one of their key defenders too.

Sure Atkins isn’t a perfect player, but Ellis & Greenwood aren’t either. But look how well they play their role in our best 22.

We need experienced spread, run & carry on the outside, and I think Atkins can play this role well in our best 22. Replaces what Hanley was too cooked to provide.
Actually going to disagree with you there.

Brandon Ellis was the perfect player. We did not have a senior wingman, especially one that can run two ways. Ellis has always been a defensive winger who drops in the whole and links up with the rebounding defenders, something we didn't have. It was usually Harbrow just bombing it out to Wright and turnover.

Hugh Greenwood was what Will Brodie was suppose to become, Too bad Hugh is such a monster and leading the competition in tackles by like 20 and also top 3 in contested possessions. Hugh can also mark the ball and go forward but it seems he hasn't been rotated down their much as oppose to Miller and Swallow. Also helps that he never played Full time mid at adelaide so they never saw how good he was and gave him to us for chips.

Remember we beat Carlton for Ellis (They then went for Newnes) and we beat Hawthorn and St Kilda for Greenwood. It's the little wins which are slowly building this club. Not a fan of Atkins but if he's on the cheap and we managed to beat a few Melbourne clubs for his signature well thats a win too.

Can only see Atkins going onto the opposite wing of Ellis, can't really defend and our forward line will be to potent for a spot

Clubs have a rough idea and we have a lot of cap space for the next 2 years. Lists will end up being cut to around 38 from what's been reported. Not sure how that impacts our numbers with the concessions we were given.

Trust me there are plenty interested in coming. Plenty. They are tripping over each other.
SO I'M TOLD.
Spot on.
Have a relative at a Melbourne club and all he's hearing non stop from teammates all day is "I / we could easily live up here".
Blown away by our facilities too.

You miss my point.

When the media said we were front runners to recruit Ellis, so many posters Son here complained he was a squib. He pulled out of contests. He was too fumbly under pressure and would struggle in a bottom 8 team.

Now posters are saying similar things about Atkins.

Ellis has proved them wrong. I think Atkins will do the same should we recruit him. Just needs to play his role - speed, run & carry on the outside.

Gee we did well with Ellis.
Strong body runs all day. Hard at it.
The Club are over the moon with him. Great team man. Apparently he is brilliant at lifting everyone up and encouraging and mentoring the young guys.

I was worried Ellis would get exposed with us not having the polished senior players around him he had at Richmond but he’s been well above my expectations and seems like a good larrikin to have around the group also being a leader knowing what it takes to build success

5 years is too long. Again it is all speculation at the moment.

4 years at 350k (as an example) is a decent deal for us having mature depth who has played over 100 games while taking up very little salary cap space. He will just be taking the space of Murdoch/GHS/Schoenfeld, Atkins is a step up from them IMO.

It would want to be completely front ended, we are going to need all the money we can get to keep this squad together

With Alex Witherden dropped again, surely whatever Brisbane gave us for Ah Chee we can just give that back for Witherden?

Witherden will fill our needs and they clearly have overfill

I was just about to write the same thing.
I’d be going hard after this bloke..

I had posted on here prior to ellis moving that was not a concern as Ellis had perfomed the same level his entire career and even before 2017 Brandon Ellis had made the AA squad. His career stats would be almost the same year on year

Yeah. People seem to forget.. Richmond were not always the team they are today. Ellis was part of that, so don't think it matters whether he is in a good team or not. I was pretty confident he would go well at the suns. Exactly what they needed.

So six Queenslanders and three Northern Territorians have been invited to the national draft combine this year.

QUEENSLAND [6]
Alex Davies (Gold Coast Academy)
Blake Coleman (Brisbane Academy)
Carter Michael (Brisbane Academy)
Jack Briskey (Brisbane Academy)
Max Pescud (Gold Coast Academy)
Saxon Crozier (Brisbane Academy)

NORTHERN TERRITORY [3]
Joel Jeffrey (Wanderers/Gold Coast Academy)
Maurice Rioli jnr (Oakleigh Chargers)
Brodie Lake (Southern Districts/Central District (SA)/Gold Coast Academy)

Obviously we are going to draft Davies and Jeffrey who are both considered top 20 prospects this year. Not sure if we'll take Lake or Pescud but I'd assume Pescud is more likely to be draft given his form as of late.

We will also have our own first rounder this year that's attached to our ladder position so you could easily argue we'll end up drafting three first rounders this year. Therefore, I don't expect us to retain our draft concessions for much longer. The pressure will come soon and the AFL will remove the concessions.

I can see us ending up with a pick of 6-8 even later if Crouch goes. Also wouldn’t surprise me if Adelaide cries for a priority pick based off our handouts.

Unless DGB is there or a key defender I can see us trading that pick on the night

Are you suggesting... a future first rounder? Scotty
