Ideally what I would love is a guy as tall as Bontempelli that plays like Dal Santo in our midfield.

If Highmore allows Coffield to move into the midfield then we've done well.
Me too, thought that Poulter would have been perfect blend of Dal and Lenny but what do I know.

Yep, think we have too many in and under players in the midfield.

If we add Steele in the off season I think it is only fair we continue the trend of Canberrans in the red, white, black. For this reason I'll be choosing Tom Highmore as my boy from now on.

Many had him going as high as early 2nd round in their first phantom drafts attempts but has dropped off this year after suffering from glandular fever. Perfect size for a 3rd tall (189cm) and is strong overhead. Has been apart of the GWS academy and was runner up best and fairest of the Eastlake NEAFL side at just 17. With GWS having plenty of talent coming through the academy in this years draft I hope he slips through and we can nab him in the rookie draft.
4 years later and he’s arrived..

We only have 5 bottom aged players in total from the last three drafts. While it is of no concern just yet, lets hope that we address that at next year's draft and keep our list age profile balanced by bringing in more kids. I expect a slight expansion of player lists next year, if not fully returned to 2020 sizes. The player turnover might be similar again next year - we've turned over 24 players in last 2 years, but after 2021, I think our list will be more stable.

If there was someone exceptional I would of expected we would of picked up another midfielder however knowing we could easily pickup Merrett or a Kelly next year do we really need another developing mid when we still have not really given much time in there to guys like Gresham and Hunter Clark or even Bytel.

At AFL level one possible key forward and one likely tallish back flanker .
at a touch under 6ft 4'(1.94m) they are tall enough as key position players - Jack Darling is 1.91m , Charlie Curnrow is 1.92m , Naughton is 1.95m - it all comes down to if they can lead a forward line - Gary Ablett Snr was only 1.85m

I would say that yes we would need another mid, especially one that provides a POD in there. Kelly & Merrett - those kinds of trades aren't guaranteed. IMO our only midfielder that doesn't do a lot of the grunt work is Clark, the rest of them typically are in and under. We need a genuine marking threat and someone who can play outside. This is why I hope Coffield moves in there with the selection of Highmore tonight. I think we are covered fairly well across the rest of the ground.

Don't mind our drafting at all. We needed another key forward to provide depth\support for King and Highmore is good cover for Wilkie/Coffield.

This draft was always going to be the biggest crapshoot in decades due to lack of exposed form so people who are panicking that we didn't take anyone that the media was pumping up need to settle the **** down.

There was no need for us to target mids in this draft. We brought in Crouch, Clark is on his way to becoming a mid and we have Bytel and Byrnes trying to break into the 22. We also couldn't find a buyer for Dunstan and Sinclair will be tough to displace as well.

We have finally started to balance out a very unbalanced list. Let's grab a mature age ruck and a quick winger/half forward in the rookie draft and we're in excellent shape for 2021.

With 36 Senior listed players, and 3 Cat A listed rookies, we have 3 available rookie listed spots for this morning's draft.

The club has previously stated that they want to keep one spot open for either the Preseason Supplementary draft or Midseason draft.

This leaves us with 2 live Rookie Draft picks.

Who do we take?

Wouldn't be surprised if it's best available talent, and unsure whether we will draft a ruckman or not. Clubs seem to be moving away from project rucks, but we only have Ryder, Marshall and Alabakis.

My guess is Maullachy Cathers (or however you spell it) will be one pick to replace Dingley Liquorlands in the absurd name game.

A lot of quality still around though.

Callow, Kolar, Trew, Walsh, Maher.

That bloody draft took so long my laptop battery died and I missed our 2nd pick.

Just have to see who falls to our pick.

We need a ruck for sure. Would like Maher with our first but not sure he gets there.

We also have a 200+ forward....I don't think you want 2 of them unless they are both exceptionally athletic. At 194 it is a good size to be that second marking option and not be a complete liability when the ball is on the ground.

Bit surprised they did not go for a mid....on the other hand, if they are looking for a Kelly type play next year it will make more sense. Couch already adds a lot in 2021 and expect Bytel to provide more competition for spots.

Glad we've taken a key defender. Hopefully he will be a late bloomer.

Would have liked us to take one more as there's clearly going to be some bargains at the end of the draft, but guess we've still got the rookie draft.

Can't say I'm overly excited about the first pick, but hopefully he's the steal of the draft.

I still think we are missing a bit of high end quality in the midfield.

It would be interesting to know who we were targetting when we were apparently looking to move up the draft?

Seems Matt Allison’s Dad Brian was a bit of a goer with Coburg. Sounded like a very tough player who didn’t mind mixing it. Times are different, but a tough player in the forward line with height and speed could be very appealing.

Gotta laugh of the clowns on here carrying on at anyone questioning the picks, especially the ones known for melting like an 8 year old kid.

It's a ****ing footy forum, none of us know more than the recruiters but the whole point of the place is to give opinions.

I'm not upset with either of our picks, more surprised.

Correct 74 pages of drivel , not one of us even mentioned who we picked yet some still know more than the club , how about you wait and see before people go off half cocked

Agreed, seems a little weird.

Especially when Battle couldn't get a spot at times and never looked as good without a set position. Highmore isn't even a developing player he's going to be expected to play from day one. Midsize KPPs are our new HBFs.

I thought we might get next year as an un-compromised draft but we had to trade out at least one pick.

It's footy forum, if people weren't melting here it would be weird. To me it all a bit meh. It's about as exciting as our draft hand looked. Neither do much for me but Highmore should at least be a safe bet back up KPB who can step in in case of injury. Looks a bit like we have 2 Wilkie's now which wasn't the area I imagined we needed. We probably need a developing tall forward but got a slightly undersized one that might be a wingman but is probably not really going to take a wing spot off others at the club. Hopefully they are better than I imagine they are.

Carlton did well for their draft hand, got Carrol and Durdin who are both highly rated. I like Collingwood and Sydney's haul too. Essendon a mixed bag. Geelong jumped early on our boy Holmes, they like their athletic guns.
