Can't agree on it being interesting if I'm honest with you. People have been banging on about the type of character Hartigan is and how he will add to the club in a bigger role than just his on-field contributions, and then you look at De Goey who is, again, facing criminal charges. If signing him was the difference between finishing 8th or 9th, then I'll be happy to watch finals footy from the sidelines. One of the most ordinary characters going around.

We've got to do something to move pick 23 on. As things currently sit, with 45, 46 and 49 and our 20% academy discount, we can match a bid for Downie as early as pick 15. 23 couldn't be more useless to us if we can't move into the first round.

How about we just pick Downie with pick 23 then that gives us those 3 picks in the 40’s to see who slips through

After 2+ years in prison I doubt it. Even without the rape charge he’s had the whole dog bit his arm fiasco. Not someone you’d want in a professional environment on the 1% chance he lives up to his talent.

Id almost say there is 0% chance downie gets a bid before 23 , without playing his one whose stocks have dropped this year . Finn was rated inside of 15 by some last year and only got bid on by North at 29 so they could get extra time.

The good news is there's going to be close to a month dedicated only to pick trades + live trading on the day. So just because deals aren't getting done now involving picks doesn't mean nothing will end up happening. I personally think we should be targeting future picks.

I've heard that clubs rate Downie higher than they rated Maginness

Finn really only shot up the draft boards because of his combine results. Was around a ~30 pick before then based on what he had showed.

But we don't know what we are doing behind closed doors?

Not many teams are going to be looking to trade out of the first round, hard to get one without giving up significant assets.

the hardest part about a rebuild is finding a core, which ends up having to be done from scratch when you remove senior players to stockpile draft assets

i think we already have a pretty solid core and should be focussing on filling in spots of need short-term through trades while using the draft to try find extra top-tier talent to add to our group

Would be an upgrade on what we have but is pretty much the same as what we have, good get for some clubs but not us.
