Unless you know exactly what we offered, then its impossible to say that we couldn't do anymore. Did we offer more than our first rounder, if not, why not? Was Papley worth more than our first rounder, whilst SOS may have put a maximum offer to the Swans, who is to say that another list manager wouldn't have offered a lot more?

These are the ins and outs that interest me, pick 9 on its own is fair value for Papley, give or take a few spots, but to say that we couldn't have done more, is not true, we could have offered two first rounders, an extra second rounder, or many other combinations.

The only facts are, that Papley wanted to get to the Blues and didn't, the rest are interpretations and opinions.

Of course we could have offered more. I have never said anything to the contrary.

There just wasn't a need to given the stance the Swans took here. It has been made clear time and time again that the issue wasn't with what we offered, but with the Bombers' insistence that they wouldn't be parting with a contracted Daniher.

And no, they are not the only facts here, there are many others. Just to name a few, we know what Sydney wanted, we know what Essendon's stance was We know our first round pick was involved in a proposed trade for Papley, and we know the Swans were either happy enough with our offer or confident they'd get a deal done with us because we know that pick formed part of the deal offered by the Swans.

You can push your desired narrative till the cows come home.
If it’s what you want to believe, then of course, you will.
Confirmation of our offer for Papley would though help many decide, in their opinion, if we indeed could or couldn’t do much more to land him ...

My narrative is and always has been to assess the situation as a whole, rather than zero in on one fact in what is an incredibly narrow view of the situation, but to each their own.

You can keep dreaming of this confirmation, but we all know it won't come, nor should it. This isn't fantasy footy.

Just wondering if any of you are interested in getting involved in a phantom draft, acting as Blues drafter? I’ll post the thread in the couple of posts.

GoSaints12’s Phantom Draft

You can DM me to raise you’re interest or say that you’ll pick in the thread. Interest is very appreciated. Other teams available, Freo, Hawks, Dees, Port. Co-drafters are also welcome.

Yeah I agree re Wines I think Walsh will go past him in the next year or two and he just doesn’t have enough toe for what we need, although I think Port have him carrying way to much weight for his size so maybe if you stripped him back to between 85-87 kg his speed could be improved, I think at one stage they had him at 95kg which is ridiculous for his height.

Not sure Zac Williams has shown enough in terms of midfield play to justify taking him to play there and we certainly don’t need anymore half backs atm, has he spent much time on the wing? I’m not sure but could be an option as we do need a good ball user on the right side wing and I don’t think Setters is that man, it is definitely a serious need, I think the left wing is covered with Obi4 or even Willo in time plus Newnes who could go to the right but I would prefer someone much better than him. Ramsay could maybe be an option in time or Honey with his athletic background.

Viney...? OOC & RFA end of ‘20.
Crouch RFA & Wines (in-contract)
Z.Williams RFA
Papley in contract

Our offer for an elite player that had nominated us is hardly an incredibly narrow view of the situation.
Most would say it would be the centrepiece of the matter.
You can keep peddling your narrative, but we all know that until our offer is ever confirmed, to say that we couldn’t have done much more is only your opinion and clearly uninformed.

Going for the big fish again. We could have landed a Marlion last year using f**k all bait.

Both are opinions.

I have listed all available facts and formulated mine on the back of them, whilst you list one, ignore not just all others but logic too, and stick to it like a fly to shit.

And you then have the gall to suggest my stance is uninformed?

Please. You haven't even been able to keep to a consistent argument, you have changed the goal posts and been called out for it. Enough - you have dug yourself a hole, and whilst the insistence to continue digging is admirable, it is getting you nowhere.

Once you're done playing in fantasy land you're welcome to rejoin us in reality.

I don't think either Papley or Wines will request a trade this year and stick with there contact. I also don't think B Couch adds anything to our list as he is a slow player with average skills.

This are the player I would go after in order.
1. De Goey
2. Zac Williams
3. Petracca
4. Fiorini
5. Viney

We need players that are already develop not some kids who have played less than 10 games in the last 2 seasons.

Don’t know what his contract status is but one player I would throw the cheque book at would be zurharr. Instantly makes us a much better side. With return of Charlie and mackay tell me who beats us?

I guess it solves the issue of him looking like a superstar against us and no other side, but there are surely cheaper ways of doing that.

Personally, I wouldn't consider defending Caro anymore foolish than to claim that anyone criticising an under performing club is automatically anti-them or a hater.
If the club can get its shit together, there's an incredibly strong chance that the criticism will dry up - funny that.
Yeah hah. She’s a tiger loving sensationalist from a bygone era with a penchant for overplaying the feminist card.

Don't think The Tractor or probably Kennedy are going to experience top 4 status.

Speaking of forwards I just watched some Fev highlights in the afl article about your clubs best forward since 2000, and my oh my but I miss Fev what a prodigious talent he was, I will never forgive the footy show for hanging him out to dry at the Brownlow, such a waste losing him to Brisbane even though we got Henderson out of it, averaged over 3 goals a game the big fella and a great showman when he was up and about, man he could kick a footy why don’t we give him a slab and get him to be our goal kicking coach, could slot them from 60 in his sleep.
Such an incredible talent could have been the best forward ever if he trained and could focus for four quarters
Lost focus sooked would then refocus and kick 3 goals from 55 on a 45

I don't disagree with anything here, and i understand we won't know what was offered exactly, but it would be great to know.
I would love to know, after SOS knew Essendon wouldn't budge, if he tried to get the deal done, on its own. It seemed the Swans were covering bases by getting Taylor and then Gray and i thought it was only a matter of time.

It doesn't make too much sense to me, why the Papley deal was tied to the JD one, they are totally different players and the Swans could have offered their own picks. It was an interesting time and i hope we are pushing hard again, as like Gibbs, i don't see the Swans keeping him if he asks to go again.

Guy is an absolute bull and a tackling machine and he kicks goals. Perfect fit into our side.

He beat up on a few poor sides but did next to nothing when playing against top 8 sides.

He's an OK prospect and nothing more IMO. Probably looks slightly better than he is as a prospect given the absolute mediocrity he's surrounded by on the field on a weekly basis. Certainly not someone I'm paying much to lure to the club - we can use that money far more effectively.

After everything that has gone on with Wines the last season and a half, i can not see him staying. I don't think he suits us, well, unless we ship off Setters and Kennedy but i think he's gone.

Of course it would be great to know. There are many things that go on internally that would be great to know.

It won't happen though. To expect it, and to be critical of the club for not divulging that information, is living in la la land.

From reading between the lines, our offers were conditional to getting something back in any trade for #9 > Papley.

not bad for a rookie - getting him in navy also gives jones a chance to whack him back at training.........

i only became aware that he was the one that whacked jones last night when i was watching some highlights of his. it stunned me a bit and immediately i had a less liking for him. i'l forgive him (i think jones would too) if he became a blue.

on a side note the year roos picked him up at pick 11 in the rookie draft we picked up kym leboise at pick 5.

imagine this.... we didnt trade out betts (so no need for leboise) and we picked up zurhaar....which means we wouldnt have wasted our time with daisy.
