No. Our Midfield has to be priorityAbsolutely shattered we couldn’t get Papley last year. It’s time to prepare the kitchen sink if required when a player of that quality nominates your club. Please just get him this year!
Wines and any other mids (Viney, Gaff etc.) would be great but should be second priority after Papley in my opinion.
I strongly believe both Hately and Caldwell will be clearly in their best 22 by years end and absolutely ready for 2021.Like most things posted, i agree mostly. However, i don't see any world where we will get Papley for anything less than a 1st and 2nd rounder, with nothing coming back. He's 23 years old, one of their best players and contracted.
I don't get the Hately and Caldwell love, both have showed nothing, other than glimpses of talent, neither will be ready to play consistent football next year. Im already cautious of the height and pace of our existing young mids, Kemp, Cripps, Setters, without adding another 190cm plus mid. I am however keeping a keen eye on Perryman, he is physically ready and is having a great start to the year and is out of contract.
The free agents on offer other than Williams don't excite me, but i do love the flexibility recruiting a FA brings. Signing a guy like Williams means you can overpay to secure other targets that you deem to be a good fit. Right now, there are question marks over a lot of our kids, we are desperate for them to come on, we desperately want them to be the players we have them in our heads, but the reality is, some won't.
We really need players like Marchbank and Cuningham to play some continuous football, to actually show they have a place in the team going forward. Im very happy Willo is back, but i am struggling to see how Dow, Stocker, Kemp, Obrien, Marchbank, Fisher and Curnow, fit in to our side. Thats without adding any player come trade time.
It wouldn't surprise me, if there are some big changes come the end of the year.
I am going to put it this way: the price we are going to have to pay to get Papley across is not going to be worth getting Papley across.
The Swans are going to hold us to ransom, and the only way we are going to get him over is to give them an offer they can't refuse, and realistically we could simply take or trade for players that could play his position much, much easier.

It does. But at this stage we have who we have. Can't overhaul the entire list again. I am not sure all of the mids we have recruited can play multiple roles. And that comes down to recruitment and trading
Papley doing it all on his own again. Get him!
What I proposed a little earlier was one of two deals: Harry and our second, or Marchbank and our first. I think those would be ballpark, but I don't want to lose Harry or Caleb. What that does is it means that we really, truly need TDK to come on (Harry's spot opens up) and/or one of BSOS or Macreadie to step up, and/or we need to draft in their positions. It’s sad but a jungle . What player from us do they want though ..

We always knew that we couldn't keep everyone, and that drafting so many talls means that we will have to choose which ones we need and which we don't.
Here's the problem.Mckay is off limits...he will be our forward/ruck once casboult retires.
Key forwards are hard to get and take long to develop.
Marchbank would suck but I could live with.
Realistically though we should be able to get it done with draft picks, just like Gibbs and Kelly who got to their destinations the second year.
And there is so much to play out. We don’t even know where our first is. Two firsts would be too much but pick 9 I would be happy with, well we turned pick 9 into two firsts last year. Here's the problem.
Marchbank and our first for Papley is a good deal for us; he's not consistently got on the park, and we have a better player for his position at present than him. They like Marchbank, and have asked about him before. But, realistically, while a KPD is something they need in the medium term, they are truly completely desperate for a KPF, and of the KPF we have - Cas, Gov, Charlie, TDK, Harry - only Harry and TDK are prospects they might want to take that we can trade without being silly.
There is every chance they ask for Marchbank and Harry, to which we promptly tell them to ask for something else and to be reasonable. They then respond with, make us an offer we can't refuse then. And we're f’ed, as f’ed as Adelaide were when they traded for Gibbs a year too late.
We don't need Papley. Sure, he'd be terrific, but our avenues to goal are through our KPF and kicks to advantage to marking players. We need smalls, but we don't truly need the complete package that Papley offers. We need a true crumber who can prevent easy exits from back 50 more than we need to exchange two of our most promising KPP for a small forward, regardless of how talented.
It's why I want Ian Hill, and why I would be interested in developing Honey into this kind of player. And I would still inquire about Papley. I just think we need to reserve the right to walk away if the trade simply isn't in our favour.
Martin and Papley would make a deadly combination. Both good around stoppages and scoring.
Wasn't it looking like pick 9 last year with 25 coming back?Like most things posted, i agree mostly. However, i don't see any world where we will get Papley for anything less than a 1st and 2nd rounder, with nothing coming back. He's 23 years old, one of their best players and contracted.

We’ve lost matches where we won on clearances, and time after time we’ve seen our f50 entries amount to nothing but a quick rebound. So guys like pap and Martin are a big need for our group. I think we should chase pap even if we have to pay more ($ or picks) this year.Creative goal-kickers. Players that can make something happen out of little. Yes, we need more of them, but they're now at a premium.
Who wouldn't give up a pick #13 for Charlie Cameron? Brisbane walked away like bandits in that deal.
We don't have goal-kicking mids and at the end of the day, the score on the board is the best way to win the battle.
Conversion ratio in forward 50 entries is important...and let's not get into a ..... but this team did this and that team did that....It's still, highest score wins.
Williams dude, Williams..LOB, Dow, Setterfield, SPS, Kennedy, Stocker Walsh, Kemp, Philp all midfielders taken in the first round over the last 5 drafts. Surely with 9 first round midfielders we haven’t recruited poorly enough not to be able to support Cripps and Curnow by next year.
If we can pull off Wilson as a FA then he along with Fisher gives us two more options. Maybe Cuningham and Martin can chop out in there. I think getting someone like Wilson changes everything. Get him then we should be backing in what SOS has put together and possibly pay up for Papley. It is also an interesting year where teams like the dogs will be trading out of the first round, Sydney may be looking for points. We can probably overpay Sydney and still make it work in a way that we still have a very strong draft hand/plenty of assets to chase other players. Lose one trade to win another, something SOS seemed to do well.

I really don't think enough posters realise how far through the rebuild we are. In eight months time most of the kids you allude to protecting/mentoring will beIf the club were to go down the draft path again or were to target Papley, who wouldn't help our midfield need but would be a great addition, id love for the club to get an older player like Josh Kennedy (Swans) to play the same role as a Hodge played at Brisbane or Lewis at Melbourne. He still finds the ball, still gets his hands dirty, is a fantastic example of hard work and seems like a good person.
Papley having a great season so far, will cost plenty.
I rekon it must be my bloody spell check. That’s the third timeWilliams dude, Williams..
I really don't think enough posters realise how far through the rebuild we are. In eight months time most of the kids you allude to protecting/mentoring will be
in to their fourth or fifth years with blokes like Doc, Cripps and Martin (OK I will reluctantly add McGovern) giving the genuine experience. Walsh and Philp are
self starters who don't need the same level of mentoring as some, and I expect Kemp and Honey to be similar.
I guess Papley is only an option if his personal reasons for returning to Vic are still remaining come seasons end. We definitely won't be getting a bargain buy with him though. Will cost.
Eh who cares if it costs draft picks like our first and second...we have plenty of talented kids and papley is a match winner who could make us contenders.
I dont think Brisbane care now about giving up essentially a first and second for neale, or a first for Cameron.
Papley will cost more than cameron because he's shown more than cameron did at Adelaide...he elevated his game once arriving at Brisbane.
A gun wants to join us...he's probably the second best small forward in the comp behind cameron. Arguably just as good. Hes only 23 too.
You know why I think we don't know? Because we really don't know.
We have so many young players right now, that we just can't slate as being in our best starting squad and we're still selecting Newnes and Newman ahead of them.
It will all become clearer soon enough, but who can really say with certainty where Dow, O'Brien, Williamson, Cuningham, Setterfield, Stocker, Kennedy, Fisher, Macreadie etc are at?
I won't bring in Philp, Kemp, Honey an co into discussions because that would be obviously unfair.
I feel we're really relying on some of those players to become players picked for the main squad without a second thought, but for one reason or another, they're just not quite yet.
Once we really know what we have, we'll have a better understanding of just how good our rebuild really was. It looks good......but we just don't know it is.
