We wouldn’t have. The clubs mentality is older players play better than younger players, and at the end of 2017, the club thought we were still a flag chance in 2018.

In their minds, we had no assets to get any quality draft picks.
The question was a bit rhetorical. In 2017, with the knowledge 3 generational players from SA would be available the following year, we traded picks for Gibbs.

That was the time to go all in and extract a 2018 1st from GC, Carlton or Saints.

In true Crows fashion we did it a year too late.

Same question - what was our strategy in advance knowing these 3 were coming up.

Did we try getting their 2018 1st in 2017, before the priority pick?

What about Carltons or StKilda’s.
The real question.

Did Hamish really want Jones anyway?

GC were unlikely to give up pick one and two to us. They knew the quality of Luko and Rankine.

But we should have been able to trade up to get Rozee.

Which make me think Hamish genuinely got his man in Jones.

Well if H rated Jones ahead of Rozee then that’s a massive failing on his part.

No one seems to want to address the real issue of why we didn’t walk away from 2017 with a 2018 1st from one of the low teams.

Jones is already an aggressive player with a slight frame, once he put some meat and if that doesn't affect his elite speed which will give him more balance and time to kick...watch out.

His record in drafting mids is poor.

Hence our midfield is poor.

Jones does look good. But Rozee would have been better. And Rozee should transition into a mid.

I know we aren’t scoring heavily, but shit, not many teams are! Even with the shortened games this is an abnormally low scoring season.
