English just played a better game than Jacobs has in 200 and ROB ever will.
If Hamish wanted him as has been stated this is a massive miss

Need to have a system in place where the drafting committee has the final say or at least there is a vote system in place.

To think that Pyke wanted Gooch over English, hurts too much.

ROB had a very similar game in our Freo win last season. 190 odd ranking points which included 22 disposals, 5 marks and 44 hitouts. That was definitely English’s breakout game tonight, but ROB had his last season. His form last week showed that he’s starting to get into that groove again.

Also, Sauce had a number of outstanding games at AFL level and that’s why he was nominated in the AA squad of 40 three times and one of those years should’ve been AA. I’m not even sure why I have to debate this, but Sauce was an elite ruckman and English has a long way to go before he’s even in the same conversation.

Where were you all last week when he got toweled up by Pittonet in his 10th game of footy?

In hindsight? We have only one AFL standard ruckman on the list and his ruckwork isn't great, this kid hit it down the Dogs mids throat all game.
Where was he last week when he got destroyed by Pittonet in the last quarter? ROB is capable of some decent tap work like English tonight, they both just aren’t going to be consistent with it as the around the ground work is their strength.

Andrew Phillips still won the Ruck contests 28 -17

Essendon won the Hit Outs contest 36 - 17

Not really, we should’ve taken Hayward over Galucci in hindsight but not English
Only Hayward?
I'd have been happy to take all of Jarrod Berry, Will Hayward, Jordan Ridley and Alex Witherden before Gallucci.

Sauce was absolutely robbed of AA one year when they went with Nic Nat.

Oh I agree, was just an example of the type of player we should’ve taken well before English given that Jacobs was still playing well at the time and eventually recruited ROB in the rookie draft.

The equal most useless stat in the AFL. And yet a ruckman can earn their stripes with as little as 2 or 3 deft taps.
Essendon's 2 best mids were out tonight Dylan Shiel and Dyson Heppel, both in the top echelon of mids in the AFL, doubt the Dogs mids would have had it all their own way like tonight if they played.

Be interesting to know just how much the AFL are topping up Nic Nats salary through ambassadorial payments

I don't know about that, but I do know that Healy had explained some gun player missing out because they weren't able to play the bulk of the season and that was a prerequisite. Then Nic Nat gets 2nd ruck off half a year.

What's last week got to do with weather or not we should have drafted him over Galluci?

Even if he hits it down Matt's throat all day it'd still end up in the opposition hands 1 possession later.

Because at the time it wasn’t the correct decision for the needs of our list. We then proceeded to get ROB and develop him anyway. The player we selected has turned into a bust, but the player we should’ve taken wasn’t English.

Apparently because we needed to go for speed.

Same as when we signed up Mackay for 4 years because Melbourne were hovering and he was apparently our lone run and carry option.

As with so many things in life, like drinking most of a bottle of scotch because you’re already drunk on red wine, it seemed like a good idea at the time.

(You had to be there)

yeah they knew it was gonna have to stop at some stage so were pre-emptive

I understand the year needed to go on from a business perspective. (Make no mistake the AFL does not care about the fans here) but how the winner of this season is not viewed as a glorified NAB Cup winner is beyond me.

For starters the non-Vic teams have had it far easier given that they dont have to play Victoria in Victoria.

Im surprised with all this hub discussions, Port hasnt requested to have a hub in China. Talk about "Game of Death".

Even worse, in Victoria.
