yeah the talk of asterisk cup/ covid cup not counting as a real flag is horseshit

i'd totally take a asterisk cup if we were up there

basically out of all the clubs in the 8 at the moment West Coast are the only ones i dont have grievances against - Go Eagles
The only people calling it an asterisk flag are losers that are salty that their team isn't going to win it.

It's like a ton against the shit Test teams. You still have to make the runs and it still goes in the 100 column. If anything though this season is the fairest in years.

Don’t agree with the analogy. It’s more a case of making an ODI 100 and then trying to claim it as a test hundred.

The this year has fundamentally changed as a result of COVID. Games are shorter, breaks are longer and the fixture has had a reduction of roughly 30%.

The fact the fixture and GF venue may look fair is exactly what makes it unfair, as it will only be this year that it occurs.

Season has a massive * on it.

The 2020 asterisk depends on who writes the narrative.

"Grand Final winners Brisbane capitalised on having 14 games in Queensland...."
"Plucky premiers Richmond overcame the mammoth task of having to indefinitely leave friends and family...."
"The Eagles turned their season around in a lengthy stretch of games in Perth....."
"Gritty Essendon refused to let their season be derailed by a false positive COVID test for Conor McKenna which played havoc with their fixture...."

I can honestly say if we were contending right now, I couldn't get that excited. Been waiting two decades to claim another flag - it needs to be in front of a packed mcg, 22 games, full quarters.

The season has a carnival/pre season vibe to it, I’m nowhere near as concerned about being last as I would in a normal year.

Ive said all along that someone left field will win it. Looks like port. Given that they like to celebrate any tiny win (like match day experience) you can bet they will be up and about. Not looking forward to the merits of the 2020 flag debated in SA for all eternity.

On the other hand, there’s nothing to suggest that things will be normal again next year either...

Every time Dean Lukin's name comes up, his gold medal win is framed as "of course, the Russians and other Eastern Europeans were boycotting the Olympics that year". Not his fault, but the asterisk sits front and centre.
Apropros of nothing, those who know Dean's story place no asterisk on his win. For his whole career, Dean was essentially a part time weightlifter, having to balance his responsibilities in his families fishing empire along with his involvement in sport. To add some football context, Dean was literally an unstoppable force in junior footy - during his U/15 season, he took some time off to place second in the South Australian senior weightlifting titles after only lifting for four months. Luckily, he was a gentle giant, and rarely used his height and strength to harm opposition players. He was a dead-set behemoth.

Bucks gave a fist bump to someone in the crowd last night as he was walking down from the box. Another journo going off with the story first before checking with either the party themselves or AFL (who have given it the all clear). Bucks then went onto say there are journos waiting outside cafes with cameras in Queensland just waiting for a player to break the rules and sit down, such grubs.

Publishing a story without checking the facts first is terrible journalism
