Nowhere in that article does it say that having less than 38 players on the senior list allows you to have more than 4 Cat A rookies.

My reading is that there are several hard limits:
  • Senior List size: max 38 players
  • Cat A rookie list: max 4 players
  • Cat B rookie list: max 3 players
  • Total List size: max 44 players
  • Total List size: min 37 players
You can have any permutation you like, within those limits.

As with too many AFL releases, the language is ambiguous.
So yea basically only 4 cat A rookies,
This means unless there is a cap problem the Crows will be adding 38 to the main list.
6 picks and 1 rookie, Have already added Hately to the 32 currently on the main list,
Not much room for NGA and Father-son.

I think all options are on the table - 36/4, 37/4, and 38/4.

Yes, that comes with a cost to flexibility when matching bids on NGA & F/S players. The reality is that we shouldn't be matching bids, and placing them on our list, just because we can. We should only be doing so if we think they are the best players we can get our hands on, given the draft picks we have in hand.

Going with lower a senior list size has 2 benefits:
  • Salary Cap
  • Access to the mid-season drafts (without reliance on LTIs).
As I said before, there are still multiple permutations possible. There are 3 variables which currently remain unknown:
  • Senior List size: 36, 37, or 38?
  • Pick swaps (I'm guessing we won't go into the draft with our current hand of 1, 9, 22, 23, 40, 56, 66).
  • How many of our F/S & NGA kids we intend to select, and in which drafts we intend to select them (my guess is Borlase ND, Newchurch RD, Edwards not selected).

How can he captain the SANFL team when he's playing AFL?
I'm forever hopeful, you know that.

Seriously though, he didn't start the year in the AFL side and if by some miracle Hamill, Sholl, Milera, McPherson and Doedee are all fit there SHOULDN'T be a spot.

I think it will go up and down like a yo-yo, as the bids come in and are matched. Ultimately, I think it will end up around about ... pick 40.
There was actually a post somewhere (draft board? Twitter?) where someone forecast the picks that would potentially be used in matching the six to eight early NGAs and FS. The picks after 30 were mostly improving.

That assumes we get bids around where players are actually rated.

Another article says

For 2021, clubs can have a maximum of 38 primary players and six rookie players on their list for a total of 44 players potentially.

Clubs are allowed to have more than six rookies, but will need to lower their total of primary players to do so.

He produced far less on field than DMac.

I'm ambivalent towards retaining DMac, but delisting Gooch & Dots was 100% the right decision.
While I agree that Gooch has delivered less on field than DMac, I still can’t get my head around delisting him while keeping Dmac. If you’re going to be ruthless with your list management, then fine, delist both. But if you’re going to use a list spot on one, then give the 22 year old one last chance to prove himself. Dmac is 33 next year. There is little point to having him go around again.

Gooch was lazy and unprofessional

He only has himself to blame

He’s a 22 year old former first round draft pick who may well be desperate to prove himself following a season ending injury and a disappointing start to his AFL career. A last chance, one year deal on minimum wage might kick start his career. Or it might not. But now we’ll never know, because we instead re-signed a 33 year old fringe player... how is this good list management?

I don't see a lot of point in retaining DMac, but obviously there was some... There was literally no point in retaining Gooch or Dots.

I pretty much agree - but, presumably they don't think there's anything that Gooch will offer, and Mackay can at least assist with coaching support.

I don’t there is any doubt Gooch will be on an AFL list next season. His ceiling is double Mackay’s. His was reached in 2009. We have given up on him too soon IMO. Laziness is fixable, lack of talent isn’t.
Maybe North Melbourne.

I think list spots are going to be too precious, to be honest with you.

He had plenty of goes, showed nothing and before his injury was being roundly criticized for his attitude.
I’ll be very surprised if he gets another go.

hey Siri search "posters who said we'd give up 23 for Hately"
Lol, many believed the trash suggested by some So called journalists who pretend they have their finger on the pulse.

We were always going to offer unders

Imo, we should be maximising our list as should not be near the cap & have a young list, which we are likely to turnover more players.

From two months ago

Get the feeling that we'll delist/trade/draft however many players it takes for Mackay to stay on the list.

Mackay at 38 is locked in and all other list management decisions will revolve around that.

Prove me wrong, Adelaide. Prove me wrong.
Well screw this
