Membrey didn't play like Membrey though, was more like Kent, a link between half forward and mids. I think he can play either end Miho. I see hi a Battle as swingmen that are hard to match up on.
If Mihochek comes in I can't see how he plays like Membrey did last year either otherwise Membrey woud have.

The reason he was forced up the ground more was the fact we had King and Marshall/Ryder/Battle inside 50.

Correct
Coff , Hunter , Max , Roma , Battle , Dougs, Bytel, Byrnes ect are going to need to be looked after if we want to keep this core together
Or would prevent us from bringing someone in a few years who would compliment the age profile of everyone you listed.

Instead we would be paying an ageing Treloar at superstar rates. Easy pass for me.

This trend also arguably cost Geelong the flag on the weekend.

When did playing your best players in their best positions go out of style?

When coaches started getting paid 500k - 1 mill per year, having 24 line coaches and 48 meetings a week to justify their existence.

Has anyone thought about getting Majak Daw as backup ruck/forward/back?

Would prefer him over Shaun McKernan any day.

I did think that actually when I was posting earlier about needing CHB depth.

The Pies are willing to chip in $200K odd next year for Treloar and that’s it. It’s not every year for the next 5 years.
personally I believe it’s way too much money to be committing when we have young guns of our own wanting pay rises over the next 5 years.
I agree.

If we keep bringing in good B grade midfielders it just pushes Clark's development back.

One or the other for me.

We are in a position to to be challenging for flags, so ask yourself this question. In the last 4 years, would the below players make it into the 18 of each GF side. If the answer is no, then we simply don't go for them or let them ones go that wont be there from our side.

Crouch - Yes (shouldn't cost anything)
Treloar - Yes (pay the price, front end the contract and give up a future 2nd) heck we used 2nd rounders before on McKenzie/Goddard/Freeman/Austin etc
Lonie - No
Higgins - Probably (made one)
Insert any other name that we maybe linked with
Don't know if it's that simple… the balance of stars vs the spudiness of your bottom 4-6 has a lot to do with who teams can carry into finals.

Rioli and Castagna aren't winning flags without an elite midfield and Dusty making everyone else look like school kids and Higgins can't get a game in front of them.

Slot Lonie into the Tigers and he's a premiership player too.

I know we improved a lot this year but i still think we are 2 years off being a serious flag contender , that's why your right when it maybe better to bring in a 23-25 yo in a few years not now ,

And then next season, after seeing how Crouch and Clark change our midfield, we can ago again at a top class midfielder who addresses the weaknesses we see in this new mix . Or we use that money to improve somewhere else.

We don't need to add them all in at once.

Much prefer to help the Pies with their salary cap issues by taking Mihochek off their list. Would be very handy player in the Saints lineup.

it'd be interesting to see how collingwood manager their cap if they cannot trade treloar?

The mail i got from a few of Mihoceks mates a couple of Saturday's ago was, that the pies were offering him around 500 and he was more than happy to stay. Apparently he was on absolute peanuts this year as part of a rookie deal and was well and truly prepared to go elsewhere to get a decent pay day, if the Pies didnt come to the party. They also said Cox has triggered a deal and will get circa $500 next year too (no idea if this is true - seems a horrid deal if so).

I would guess, this is why we are sniffing around Checkers. You'd think if the Pies arent able to offload Treloar, then it will significantly inhibit their ability to give Brody the deal they want to give him (and he deserves) and he may be gettable again.

All fourth hand info so may be off the mark.

EDIT - Should have just googled the Cox stuff - its bang on the money.

Thats why it's unfortunate the Caldwell deal fell through.

Crouch was addressing our immediate issues while Caldwell was looking towards the future and King's prime.

Yep, if Clark, Crouch and Steele work well together in the inside it means we could probably target a Merrett or Kelly who can also play on the outside.

No I said a solid B+ grade midfielder is around $750K on the open market which I "expect" B.Crouch to be offered as a RFA. Like I said, I'm here to educate you guys.
To be honest mate if the crows through that is what is value was he would have made the offer. Fact is they want to move on from him, based on that it is a buyer's market. If you guys think otherwise then match and try and work out a trade just don't get salty if you keep a player you want to move because you want too much.

And yet in the last 5 seasons he hasn’t managed more then 13 games in a season.

next season will be his 7th season. I don’t think he has developed a side to his game or created an elite facet to it in that time. At what point do we accept that there times where he does very well but hasn’t evolved or taken the next step?

we need better to achieve better things.

Yeah 6 years and still a fringe player means he's defied the odds. I love Lonie but can't see him getting more game time as the side improves. He'd be better at a club like the Dogs with a better midfield and more traditional forward structure.

That’s interesting, I guess you have to weigh up if we add Treloar and Crouch to our team do we elevate to premiership contention. Seriously we would be top 3 in my opinion adding those 2 to what we currently have. We take a bit of a hit but it gives a serious chance at Winning the flag. Those players you are speaking of they will be getting bigger offers elsewhere Anyway we just have to back in the club that they will stay for less. I think we should do everything we can to Win the flag every year from now on We need to stop worrying about 3 years down the track and start winning for the now.

I still think we are a good small forward and another key back off being a really top team , of course adding those two will help but we still have a few holes we need to plug before we win a flag IMO

Why should any other club pay for the highly inflated contract arrangements agreed to by the pies.

Can Treloar please go to Melbourne and say that it was because he thought their list was better than the St Kilda list. That seemed to work out alright for the tigers...

lol yeah thats crazy. I can't imagine the pies will get many, if any, takers of that deal

My simple approach:
- We lost so many close ones this year by under a goal (incredibly winnable games) = we win all those and we would have finished top 2-4 this year.
- We add a few players in the areas we struggled and bank on the natural improvement of the 22 = instant success.
- We'll hopefully be back on the deck at Marvel for majority of next season..

Don't want another complete team rework, just gotta make sure if we lose players we replace with someone better/even and I can't see why we can't compete for a flag over the next few years.

If Crouch wasn't a free agent and just a contracted player, I can't image that he'd be high on our list of targets.

So if our offer doesn't get Adelaide band 1 and they match, I find it incredibly hard to believe that we will give up our first rounder for him.

Brad's appeal is that he is a B+ mid when healthy and essentially comes free. I'll actually laugh if the Crows match because it'd be such a dumb move.
