Hi guys,

the live Draft thread is now open here.

It's really hard to say. In my opinion we definitely need to bolster the midfield and preferably with ready made experience, but the club might have confidence in girls like Newton and Fitzy having more influence in that part of the ground next year so be happy to take best available.
Our resident stat guy posted a few days ago that our possession count for the year was 3rd worst in the league so clearly we need to improve that.

On the GWV girls - we are likely playing them due to GWV being part of our academy. Dojiok may be NGV eligible for us but no-one seems to know for sure.
I have no idea on the NGA front. I've never heard anything about it in the women's space, but there's a lot of things they don't tell me.

Unless I'm statisticking wrong (always a possibility), it looks like the Dogs were dead last in disposals. I believe they also lost the contested possession count in every game and were frequently beaten in the clearances too. That'd seem to back up the need to bolster the midfield. I think Fitzgerald was only used at something like 20% of centre bounces, however, so I wondered if they might just be planning to use her more in the middle. They also seem to really want to make Georgostathis and Newton in the middle happen.

The Dogs recruiters also seem to really like those ~175cm types, in particular the left footers, and you've got Friend, Reid and Slender all potentially available at the Dogs pick. Surely, though, at some point, you've just got too much of that type. Both the Dogs and Tiges I look at as not really needing what's likely to be available at their current picks. Unless Tess Craven is the saviour midfield bolter from the clouds, that is. Which she might just be. 2PM Sunday we'll get a hint.

You are statisticking correctly - my recollection was wrong. Dead last for possessions.

Very quiet on the aflw committee meeting that occurred today...

Keen to hear the decisions made
They probably sat there and congratulated each other on how 'well' they've done

Still no draft date but I’m assuming it would be around mid to end of June With trade period around end of May / start of June

Then that gives them time for preseason before the December start
Reckon draft will be well after the decision on the expansion teams which is supposedly going to be made in August

Would that have an impact on this years draft?
No new teams for next season, joining for the season after.

I interpreted as they were open to accepting teams for 2022 season, but I didn't consider the season start change either. Really weird we don't have confirmation on the draft regardless

No mention of potential draft assistance either. I wonder if they're holding back draft announcements to give them some sort of clean air. Expansion was always going to dominate any announcement.

I've been wondering about draft-age preselections. Hawthorn's VFLW usually gets juniors off the Ranges. If they're told to wait until 2023-24, there's the possibility they could wind up getting Pisano as a signing. Considering they're planning to play out of Dingley, however, I wonder if the league may reconsider alignments. Dingley's far closer to Dandenong, Oakleigh and Sandringham, which are all potentially very interesting if Hawthorn come in for 2022-23 and can sign their players.

Sarah Black said they're expecting the trade period/ draft announcement next week, must've been too much expansion discussion to fit it in on Wednesday 😂.
I just greedily want a priority pick 😎

I think it's the best course of action for both you and Geelong, you get Franklin + Rowley to hit need and best available that way, although I reckon Eagles wpuld also just take guaranteed selection of Ella Roberts 😂

Season after 😍

Far more likely that trade / draft decisions were made and the announcement is being held off to spread out the content. This is pretty standard practice

Was tongue in cheek but yes, far more likely

Not too bad really, at least they're not all at the pointy end.
So if I read this right, the West Aus draft order would be WC, FREO, WC, WC, FREO, WC, WC, FREO then normal?

I'm not sure I fully understand what this means:
Additionally, these priority selections are made on the basis that the first five (5) selections, held by each of the Clubs receiving Special Assistance, are not to be traded ahead of the 2021 NAB AFL Women’s Draft. Any selections after this point can be traded as per current AFLW Rules.

But I'm pretty sure I don't understand the reasoning behind it at all. Last year's method of on-trading priority picks for decent established players actually worked, just needed more of it.

This won't do shit, unless there's something yet to be revealed about where Geelong and GC are going to draft their players from.

This won't do sh*t, unless there's something yet to be revealed about where Geelong and GC are going to draft their players from.

I read this part as meaning they can’t trade out picks 1-5, presumably to avoid a club with lesser need trading up for Prespakis and/or Rowbottom types and skewing the Victorian draft order.

I assume but am less certain it also means they can’t trade out the priority picks themselves but can trade out their later picks.

Likewise can’t say that I entirely see the logic, but will see how it impacts the trade period and final draft order before I take a view on whether it is more than a token equalisation attempt.

So IF St.Kilda were to lure Marinoff how are they supposed to trade for her? Are Adelaide expected to take a shit pick or does the whole trade get quashed.
Marinoff is going to make St.Kilda a far more competitive team than another pick - even if it is Prespakis or Rowbottom.
