Hi Folks,

Was interested to see if there was interest in a draft game with the saints fans on bigfooty being assigned a team and selecting on their behalf. I organised a draft game a few years back (I believe in 2017). It was good fun but was put off at the time by an annoying poster, who shall remain nameless but think he's been largely moved on thanks to all your good work. This poster would DM me to push posters to hurry up their selections and also be pushy in the thread. Note that if said person messages me after this you will be blocked.

I digress but if you're interested reach out and I will assign you a team. Teams will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis. If you have any suggestions on how this should be run I'm all ears. I will tag posters to the teams they've been assigned to.

Last time I took the saints and from memory I selected Clark, Bonar and Clavarino. Try not to hold Bonar and Clavarino against me. This time I'll be the recruiter for the tigers based on their draft haul.

The West Australian and South Australian clubs pushed for access to metropolitan Indigenous players to be added to their NGA zones and won approval for that two years ago in 2019.
Prior to that, West Coast, Fremantle, Adelaide and Port Adelaide had only had access to Indigenous players living in rural and remote areas. The AFL opened things up more in line with Victorian clubs' zoning, but put a caveat on that access, granting them rights to match a bid only after pick 40.
It means Fremantle, which has South Fremantle's Jesse Motlop in its Next Generation Academy this year, will only be able to match a bid on the small forward if it comes from pick 41 onwards.

Motlop is a member of Fremantle's Next Generation Academy but the Dockers will only get priority call on him if he slips out of the top-40 picks at the draft under rules applying to metropolitan Indigenous prospects.
 
Threw around a few names here.

Could really go anyway given the age demographic of the list we basically just need to get young talent in for the future given we have loaded up for a shot.

But one area that has been a weakness basically since Brad Ottens is ruck. Stanley and Ceglar can cover the now but need an up and coming ruck.

With pick 24 we select Toby Conway from the Geelong Falcons

Love how competitive he is in the air and at ground level.

Good pick, was my original choice before I settled on Motlop
 
With pick 25, Hawthorn will select Judson Clarke.

After adding 2 mids with earlier picks, Hawthorn have decided to go with an exciting small forward to boost the front half. Clarks speed, clean hands and finishing skills will instantly add to the Hawks developing group, plus he has the ability to run up on the wing and accumulate.

Out of curiosity I looked back at the draft game from 2017. Some interesting observations. First thing to standout was that Naughton was a steal at pick 21 while Sam Taylor slid to the 40s and Starcevich to the late 60s.

Also interesting to see which non academy players ended up at the actual club they were picked in this draft game. Cerra ended up at Freo but with pick 2 instead of 5. I got Clark and Clavarino but don't know if it's worth boasting about Clav.

Non academy who went to the actual club picked in this game Cerra, Stephenson, Richards, Balta, Petrucelle, Spargo, Ainsworth but in different draft, Fritsch and Meek.

Summary of the saints haul of Bonar, Clark, Clavarino and Jackson Ross. From my memory I really bought into the Bonar hype that was being generated at the time.

With pick 31 Richmond select Rhett Bazzo.

Tigers looking for a long term key defender and Bazzo fits the bill. Tall renowned for his intercept marking, good size and can shutdown key forwards. He can also go forward. Tigers have done well with key defenders from WA in the past.

Plus the added bonus is fans can call him Bozzo if he makes stupid decisions on or off the field.
