Wouldn't think so, don't think our rebuild is at the point we'd go needs over pure talent.

I still think our focus will be on an a balanced midfielder and Dawson is certainly not that (not at this point anyhow) he's a wing/half forward for us I think.

I think Goater/Erasmus/Ward will be high on our draft board......and possibly Goater's teammate Zac Taylor with a later pick who just happens to have some of the best foot skills in this draft.
I see Goater and Erasmus as needs, not saying we sacrificing talent but I would have
Hobbs and Ward in front of them if going by a pure midfield talent.

Hamish has a tough choice this year.

If it's Goater or Erasmus and you know they will be available at Richmond's pick 7 what would you want in return for it if we were to slide?

Would a 2nd be enough?
Almost any other year I would say no but this year I think I would take it.
I know everyone wants pick 15 as well but can't see it happening.

Callaghan is pick 2 (outside bids) on just about every draft board, we need a miracle.

he’s pick 2 on every irrelevant, knowledge free source?

why not line up 100 hairdressers named beryl and ask them

those draft boards have literally no idea where he will go. Whether 2, 6, or anything else

Correct. We just need to look at the last draft and see where the marbles landed.

Yeah the Dawson news doesn’t affect who we should target with pick 4. Callaghan, Goater or Erasmus are still the most ideal for us IMO, taking player type and talent into account

Is Erasmus fit to play this Saturday?

These kids, particularly the Victorians have had so little exposure I think there's a real chance 2-4 could be completely different to what draft boards look like now.

Consider draft boards this time last year:

If Dawson is a mid - does Keays drop out or do we shuffle a kid out

And does it change our strategy at 4 or do we pick for future needs given Laird and Crouch age ?

tl;dr Does getting Dawson change our selection
After reflecting on my post that it would change our view on Callaghan .....I'm now thinking Dawson will not change our thinking

Talking of age ...Seedsman 30 yo in Jan .....you'd think Dawson is his replacement

Laird and Crouch have another 5 years .....so this Draft will be about adding to the list

Interesting as to how many Left Footed players we're getting ...Pedlar, Crouch, Dawson, Keays, Mitch Hinge, Hamill ( :D ) .....obviously not a coincidence

Keays as our best defensive running mid is critical going fwd

You and others might have Hobbs and Ward ahead of Goater and Erasmus that's fine I wouldn't. I'd be perfectly fine with with Hobbs or Ward if we went that way but looking at our list construct I would prefer Goater or Erasmus in that order because I see them as being a little more versatile than the other two.

Callaghan, Hobbs, Ward, Erasmus all look good to my eye. Goater and Sonsie too. Feeling pretty confident that we'll develop a good player if we choose one of them. I think the real trick is finding a second decent pick after trading for Dawson. Some very good players will still be there 20-30. I also still really like Rachele but think he slips to an awkward range for us.

What pick are we likely to get for Kelly ? ......maybe bundle that with #37 for another low 20's pick, if we use #23 on Dawson as expected

Do you have a "feel" as to where 1. Draper & 2. Roberts may end up - they have dropped off the radar a little as far as draft speak goes? Now we have Dawson lined up do you think we will miss/not need?

Roberts will be available at our 2nd pick .....Draper, probably early to mid teens

Interesting about the onball comments

In 2020 Dawson played a little through the midfield and forward for Sydney

In 2021 he started HB but his transition to the wing was seamless and a huge success.

Given his size and attitudes I woukd love to see how he goes on ball

We have Seess, Smith, Milera, Sholl, Jones, Hinge and Hamill that can all play wing or HB..... Dawson as a genuine mid is a interesting proposition

Either band 4 or 5 I guess? Which should be around a similar range to 37

We’ll probably take 3 picks into this draft, with Dawson coming in and assuming Butts is upgraded. The only way I can see us using Melb 2nd and Kelly compo to trade up is if we split 4, which seems unlikely at this point

Where will our second pick be?
Depends on if we can bundle #37 and Kelly's compo pick ....can we use that for SYD & retain #23 ....I haven't looked hard enough at that till we know the compo pick for Kelly

But I'd be confident we want to retain an early 2nd round pick in this Draft

It might be unlikely we split pick 4 but my feel is it won't be from lack of trying, more likely finding a club willing to transact will be the cause.

I'm warming to the idea of offering 4 and next year's first for JHF. Big big cost, but could set us up nicely after getting Dawson, and our youth coming through.
I’m still not seeing why this lad is so hyped to be honest..

sure he looks pretty bloody good.. but the way crew are raving about him its like hes the next GAblett jnr..

watching that souths game on the weekend he did some nice things but its not like he tore the game appart and was responsibly for the win.

would way rather turn 4 into 7 and 16 and take Erasmus + someone else than go all in and use 4 and our 2022 1st on JHF…

Nit that sydney would be happy, but if kelly nets us band 4 end of 2nd round, could oir offer be that and the melbourne 2nd for dawson...cheeky i know but it preserves pick 23. Heck with those 2 end of 2nd rounders i'd also throw in a 2022 3rd rounder as well

Sydney aren’t taking quantity over quality, and that’s without considering the Swans won’t do 23 by itself anyway

1 centre clearance in 2020
13 stoppage clearances in 2020
2 centre clearances in 2021
13 stoppage clearances in 2021

As a player that split his game time between the wing and two flanks and attended very few centre bounces, it can be hard to put a value on Dawson, who was initially taken with Pick 56 in the 2015 national draft.

But expect the Swans to play hardball at the trade table, as it was clear they didn’t want to lose him and were prepared to offer him a significant contract, while they’re also facing the prospect of losing free agent George Hewett to Carlton.

The Crows currently hold Picks 4, 23, 37, 59, 63. Most recruiters believe Pick 4 is ‘overs’ for Dawson and Pick 23 – an early second-round pick – is ‘unders’.

I wonder if richmond might look at 7 and 26 for our pick 4...if we are open to moving down a bit. That way we could give sydney either 23 or 26 so that we retain an early to.mid 2nd rounder that we could use or try to trade back inside the 1st round with. After all we will likely have 2 end of 2nd round picks to use for moving other picks?

Jesus christ… we’re not only not going to need a first round pick for Dawson.. some here are now saying we wont even need to use our pick 23 on him!!!..

**** me.. we have just offered him a 5 year contract on around $600k a year.. hes a top 5 player at a club that played finals this year.. we have, according to all reports, been chasing him for a while now (most of the year if you believe some)…

yet we’re somehow gonna land him for a couple of junk picks in the late 30’s!!!..

Really?..
