Yes just like a poster around here tried to justify the carlton deal for gibbsI know people are saying that we were giving up three first round picks for one player and I may be wrong here but is that really true?
It looks like we were moving pick 4 up to pick 1 and moving the Melbourne first to the Kangaroos second. So potentially moving a pick 17 or 18 to pick 20.
Then we are giving up our first next year. So really I think we are only giving up one decent pick to try and get JHF.

More picks may definitely be preferable, to a point, particularly if we're talking about multiple first-rounders and a club is committed to a comprehensive rebuild.
How many of those are going to become top-liners? It's too soon to say but I assume some will be busts and some might just be solid contributors. Either way, I wouldn't be turning my nose up at using three more first-rounders.Last three drafts, our top 30 picks - Jones, McHenry, Hamill, McAsey, Schoenberg, Worrell, Thilthorpe, Pedlar, Cook, Berry.
You're two seasons into a comprehensive rebuild. More youth, particularly first-round selections, is the only way. We’ve got plenty of youth.

Love it.Horne Francis is the next big time midfielder. Think Dangerfield, Voss, Martin, Fyfe. Thats what he will become IF everything goes as planned. He is that good.
I love how we offered up the 3 firsts for pick 1.
It gives North something to think about the media will tell them their crazy and puts Sydney back into a corner re Dawson.
I also like how we havent offered players. Internally that can be detrimental to the playing group.
From here all we can do is ask North the question what would it take for them to trade pick 1 and get THEM to write down a list of players to pair up with our draft picks.
If its too much we say no thanks and take the best lad available at 4 and look to use the 2 firsts next year on Luko or Rankine. Atleast we are having a crack.
Why have all of our NGA talents gone from being decently rated to maybe not even getting drafted, every year?
Is it a development issue?
Take this to the bank. JHF is a lock to come home.Yeah we dodged a bullet.
More surprising for me is that North rate him that highly even with go home risk.

If he was at a big Victorian Club, sure there is a chance he could stay.
Either Port or the Crows or both will come hard at JHF in the next 24 months. I wouldnt even rule out a bottom Vic team either via the PSD.
The caveat being JHF demonstrates in the next two years he is worthy of Pick 1.
Not sure who is dumber.
Us for offering it?
Or North for rejecting it?

You should sketch out your best 22 of players 25 or younger. Essentially players born 1996 or later. And then tell me there's enough there and you don't need three more first-rounders?
You don't want to fall into the Carlton trap of thinking you've drafted enough young talent, only to realise that maybe you haven't.
Bugger I was about to post similar, if Adelaide's outlandish offer for JH-F doesn't put the wind up Beatson and Gardiner nothing will.
You need more than one more high-end draft pick.Gollant Fogarty Murphy
McHenry Thilthorpe Cook
*Dawson Keays Sholl
- O’Brien Pedlar Shoenberg
Jones Murray Milera
McPherson Butts Doedee
| McAsey Hately Worrell Hamill Newchurch Rowe Hinge Parnell Strachan (O’Brien and Strachan are both 26, but ruckman are a different beast)
I do want to draft more talent - the highest end draft talent possible.

Presumably we will give something for Dawson before pick swops happen, we don't really have 3 firsts for this trade as I see it.That would be us giving up even more, as the Giant’s Future Second will be a lot later than North’s.
But would ensure North could get Callaghan, and if we’re all in…
No, it isn't. Given you're two years into a comprehensive rebuild, I'd say three first-rounders, including two in the top 5 or top 10, makes more sense than a single top pick. Of course, you still have to use those picks well, but that should go without saying.Which is what exactly?
Top 3? We have one - Thilthorpe. And pick 6 this year isn’t it - swinging hard for #1 this year is doing EXACTLY what you’re suggesting.
He still is that talent. Just has not been developed properly. He hasn’t lost that talent. Just has not fulfilled his potential yet.Go watch luko in his underage year at SANFL in the prelim final for the eagles v sturt run the 2 best key defenders in the league a merry dance on the way to a 4 goal haul...the kid was 16 years old. He looked an absolute generational talent in his pre AFL years
Exactly, they are not going to walk away from a first round pick. Not when the footy world knows it’s a reasonable offer, they’ll be a laughing stockSydney lose him for nothing without our offer.
Betting that North takes him for free in the PSD still means losing him for, erm, nothing
we are their only bridge to a return
I remember the hype about Jimmy Toumpas.....I just wonder if the confidence about these kids who are rated #1 or #2 is always justified. Maybe JHF is one of the cases where it's a safe bet that he'll become a top-liner but that seems to be the exception rather than the rule if you look over the past 20 years. Most of these kids end up being eclipsed by at least one or two kids taken later.
For example, I remember how high people were about Cam Rayner. And he's by no means a bust. He'll probably play 200 games and be a very fine player. But he's already been eclipsed by a handful of players taken later in that draft.
McCartin. That didn't work out wellExcept everyone was shaking their head that Saints went tall (name escapes me at the moment) instead of Petracca who was seen as a clear #1 pick in that draft. It would be like North shocking everyone and not picking JHF this year as he is a clear #1 pick

They'll be flat out getting drafted at all, Dudley only invited to the SANFL state draft indicates there's not too much interest from AFL clubs.I was disappointed with the decision on our not selecting the NGA for the Draft. I thought we should have nominated O'Loughlin and Dudley and if the were bid too high for us we would pass. They may have drifted to us for our last 2 picks.
