I'd rather your list. Walsh, Cripps, Weitering, McKay, C. Curnow (if he can get fit). Thats a group of 5 that can get you places. Carlton's problem is they get judasses from other clubs with no moral fibre, backbone or team spirit to come in to take them to the next step.

Your list management has been appalling. What do you expect going out of your way to get McGovern!

I would have a solid "no trade ins" rule for the next 3 and concentrate on recruiting and developing what you got. Adam Saad and Zac Williams aren't going to get you anywhere.

Disagree - they should throw the kitchen sink (whatever they have left of it) at Adam Cerra.

Whoever decided Saad & Williams were a good idea should be sacked. Carlton review completed.

Matt would be a good fit for them if they lose Cripps. Wonder if they'd cough up more than what we'd get as compo (likely band 3).

Exactly right

Their midfield is thin. Two high rollers and nothing else

Already had Docherty and Petrevski-Seton across half back.

It was such a dumb decision. Midfield no better and has simply pushed SPS out

It's a bit similar to Port always seeking to land a "big fish" in the off-season (see Messers Dixon, Ryder, Rockliff, Motlop etc).

In reality the blokes that change clubs are rarely of the god-tier (Franklin, Ablett, Danger notable exceptions).

95% of players that move will make you slightly, incrementally better but will rarely if ever be the foundations of a successful side. They're good cherries on top of the cake. if you don't have the cake their pointless.

Bingo. Trades are for filling gaps in a side you've largely built yourself

I dunno.. Lynch, Jenkins and Betts made our forward line a lot better and we made a grand final

Or alternatively, the smart trading was by Port in selling high on blokes like Wingard and Howard to get in elite talent in Rozee/Butters/Duursma (I forget which pick was actually there's to start with)

In one way this proves my point, cream on the cake.

More specifically though, neither Lynch nor Jenkins were brought in under any kind of fanfare.

Absolutely blokes who get traded play in premierships. They're rarely the building blocks, but they're the cream.

That William's trade was very wierd in particular. We're going to pay through the roof then convert you to being a midfielder. Just a terrible decision.

Paying a high sticker price hoping a bloke can play a different position always tends to end in tears.

Port Power originally had pick 10, the pick that was eventually used on Kysaiah Pickett.

In 2019 when Howard was traded.

Didn't Port Power trade Howard for Georgiades, downgraded their pick 10 to 12, the two players taken at 10 and 11 were Kysaiah Pickett and Will Day, two very good South Australians.

It's not clear that it is a clear win for them. A lot depends on whether Bergman ends up playing long term.

Got my draft years confused.

I am very glad they don't have Kozzy Pickett.

Yeah, it’s quite odd. Draft midfielders and force them to be ‘versatile’ and play unfamiliar positions - Gibbs off HB, Stocker BP, SPS HB, Cunningham HF, Fisher FP, Silvagni third tall all spring to mind, then complain your stoppage brigade needs reinforcements so recruit a half back in Williams to play in the middle.

Training versatility is good, but it can get messy as all hell. Fisher and Stocker strike me as particularly strong on ball contenders with their mix of skills and intensity yet waste them in dead positions while your midfield is slow and butchery. Boat has probably sailed on SPS - spent far too much time away from the centre now.

Imagine if Essendon had sold the farm to get Dunkley, having already done so for Shiel a couple of years earlier, only to realise they had the answer to their problems in Parish on a forward flank and just forgot that he could actually do that.

Not quite. Yes they downgraded 10 to 12 in the Howard deal, missing out on Pickett and Day. But Georgiades was from a trade of first round picks with Brisbane.

Port traded their 2020 1st and pick 29 for Brisbane's pick 16, with later pick swaps. That pick 16 became Georgiades. Their 2020 1st was on-traded to Melbourne and became pick 22, Bailey Laurie

The Howard pick (18) became Dylan Williams and Collingwood's 2020 2nd round pick. That Collingwood pick was absorbed in the Lachie Jones bid

Any danger of Horne pulling a Bailey Smith/Archie Perkins/Chad Wingard?
He could try it but I’d suspect that the hawks wouldnt care what he said.. they’d still take him. North probably would too..

GWS (with pies pick) might leave him on the table simply due to their midfield being stacked already and them needing KPD’ and KPF’s more..

Oh, thanks. So Howard, Ryder, pick 10, 4th rounder for Bergman (miss out on Pickett and Day), Williams, a 3rd rounder and some points for Jones?

I'm not sure this trade should be one that people point to and say they killed it, yet.
