It is, Rozee isn't the player he should be and McHenry is becoming the player he should.

Port insist on playing him not 💯 and Connor himself spends too much time drinking his own bathwater.

Rozee is starting to remind me of Milera. HBF might be his best position.

Rozee will be fine if he can get his body right. They should be taking a careful approach.
That's only 1 of his issues.

They need to be careful with his attitude

Absolutely, played a blinder of a SANFL finals series there and he'll be allowed to use his strengths.

People being very harsh on a Rozee where there's good cause to suspect he was rushed back from injury too quickly and has been playing hurt.

I suspect he suffers a bit from being so good in year one, that people expect an exponential level of improvement, and then become a bit disappointed when blokes who weren't as good in year one improve at a quicker rate and surpass him (Butters a prime example).

Barring injury it would be gobsmacking if he didn't make it based on exposed form.

No one is saying there isn't a reason why he's not progressed, there's a few.

I wouldn't cast too much doubt - AFC would love to have him on our list. He's currently a far better player and a far more promising prospect than out first round mistake, Chayce Jones.
The rest of the post did state that I felt there was no reason to believe he wouldn't succeed. I was just implying that like anyone his age, you can't count your chickens.

Also, If we are being critical of our selection team I don't think Chayce should ever be compared to Rozee (like you said, a far more promising prospect and thus was selected in that echelon), if anyone Chayce should be compared to Butters. At least we had a shot at selecting him.

Geez some hard markers here, injury is far and away the main reason Connor hasn't been able to frank his previous high standards.
Attitude is a bigger issue IMO.

The gap between the Power's '18 picks and ours has narrowed in the last two years.

Sholl, Hamill, McHenry and Butts didn't debut til '20. At that point the gap was at it's largest.
Rozee and Butters are both exceptionally talented. But I would argue Sholl is also extremely talented and no lesser player than either of these on what he has been able to produce at AFL level - 2 x rising star nominations attests to that. Hamill has the potential to be but needs to get his consistency up and also we need to hope he can steer clear from further concussion. Butts will be a very serviceable full back and is a steal for us as was sholl at that pick. McHenry has started to get consistency to his game and looks like he could become a best 22 player as we look to rise up the ladder. Jones is still the big worry..lest see how he goes in the 2nd half of this year

Fair enough, but a comparison of Jones to Butters, makes our draft selection of Jones even worse IMO.

... although is Rowell’s body up to it?.. and Ash isnt looking bad at all!.
...
I wonder if their mental determination has anything to do with this - that drive to go hard and get stuck in, to keep going to the point it punishes the body more than one should. This would expose the player to greater injury risks (even if the player's body would have otherwise been up to it).

I always thought Brouch was like this also.

Was thinking about that (plus Milera back too) and wondering if our thinking is that dynamic, skilful mids are like hen's teeth and super expensive.

Are we trying to put together a workmanlike midfield who wins their share but is tasked with distributing it to the wingmen, half backs and outside players?
That seems to be the way we recruit mids

we like the contested types that lack classy edge or versatility

For all our bitching and moaning about the 2018 draft, every one of Jones, McHenry, Hamill, Sholl and Butts played last week. If Port hadn't seemingly done so well that year, we wouldn't be so worried.

Butters is better than any midfielder on the Crows list by quite a long way. Perhaps Pedlar may prove me wrong but I doubt it.

Jones doesn’t have the spatial awareness needed of an AFL player - his delisting seems inevitable, even he’s given another year or two to prove he's not up to it.
