It's also about retention cost
Is retaining a Victorian player more expensive than a South Australian player?
Pretty crazy to think that the Dogs might a second rounder for their 8th (?) best mid and we’ll prob get the same for our best.
Cooper Murley is your boy then but reckon he goes as early as early 2nd round possibly, speed, pressure and ball use, might even go earlier if he finishes the season on a high and the Nationals go ahead, another I could see pinch hitting in the midfield as well.Agree - he’s a very clever player but at his height and without that top end speed it’s going to be hard for him
I reckon he’s a rookie or late pick at best
definitely won’t go early despite his talent

PLAYERCARDENDand Harry Schoenberg. But what they lack in the midfield is class, particularly by foot. According to Champion Data, the Crows have the worst kick rating in the AFL this season, while they’re also ranked 17th for kicking efficiency.PLAYERCARDSTART9Rory Sloane

Ideal draft prospects: In an absolute ideal world, the Crows nab Jason Horne – an outstanding South Australian midfield prospect who’s widely considered the best player in the ‘open’ draft pool. While Horne, who’s fitted in at senior SANFL level with aplomb, is renowned for his power and aggression at the contest, his ball use is just as impressive. According to Champion Data, he has the 10th-best kicking efficiency of the 41 SANFL midfielders to have had at least 100 kicks this year – a mighty effort considering his contested possession rate is 50 per cent. A tempting option for the Crows would be to trade up the draft order to Pick 1 in order to give them first access to Horne. Whether North would be willing to budge remains doubtful – Pick 1 is rarely genuinely on the trade table – but if the Crows want him, they’ll be in a decent bargaining position to do so. If Horne isn’t available, Sandringham Dragon Finn Callaghan also uses the ball well by foot and has great poise, both in tight and in space, which helps him break lines.
And further to my earlier post re our "height challenged" current midfield Callaghan is 189cm - but, don't forget Johnson from WA as he may also fit the bill. From Fox Sports
Pick 19 is "quarantined" until the AFL decide it's still required by GC to assist them in building a more competitive list or not now required. Decision will be made after the season ends and before the trade period. What's the latest on GC and their pick 19 priority pick?
Did the AFL say this would be reviewed at the end of the year?
Horne kicking efficiency rated better than i suspected. Looks like he can bang it on the boot a bit - but maybe that's just his action. I'm still keen on Roberts because his left looks like a weapon. From Fox Sports
Probably not, sooner go hard for Cooper Murley in the draft to fix our small forward role, a very complete footballer, there's also Isaiah Dudley if we don't have to give up much.Mutineer Apparently Rosas Jnr is apparently OOC at the suns at the end of this year - would he be worth trying to trade in as a crafty small player?
Motlop is a Fremantle NGA for starters and nobody's going to bid before pick 20 so wherever he falls he'll be matched. There's better in our own backyard anyhow IMO Cooper Murley. Personally I really don't see any real points of difference in Willis that would put him above the other more fancied SA mids.Bicks and others tell us your thoughts on Willis he together with Wagner and Motlop have come into twomeys draft team. Could Motlop be the forward With some X factor we need
Don't forget Jason has only been playing limited midfield minutes in South's league team which feeds into that. His kicking's alright but not on the same level as that of Matt Roberts.Horne kicking efficiency rated better than i suspected. where do you see Murley sitting in the overall draft - back of 1st round - mid 2nd round? and if both were on the board at say our 2nd rounder, would you go Murley over Arlo Draper?Probably not, sooner go hard for Cooper Murley in the draft to fix our small forward role, a very complete footballer, there's also Isaiah Dudley if we don't have to give up much.
My gut feel is Draper will go higher than a lot of the pundits seem to think so Murley might be more realistic at our 2nd but much will hinge on the Nationals if they're played. Murley is likely to play SANFL league in the back half of the season, Draper probably doesn't.where do you see Murley sitting in the overall draft - back of 1st round - mid 2nd round? and if both were on the board at say our 2nd rounder, would you go Murley over Arlo Draper?
That's where Norwood coach Jade Rawlings thinks his AFL future is, that's good enough a recommendation for me.Do you think Cooper plays as a forward at the next level? I heard he has some good speed - which we are desperate for. Any idea what his forward nous is like?
LOL, that's a joke given he's played limited midfield minutes. From Fox Sports
Then you best check out Josh Goater as he's 190cm and has those two easily covered for speed and athleticismAnd further to my earlier post re our "height challenged" current midfield Callaghan is 189cm - but, don't forget Johnson from WA as he may also fit the bill.
Thanks for the feedback bicks. I also liked the look of Wagner from the swans. Quick hard at it. I wonder if his brother is a similar playerMotlop is a Fremantle NGA for starters and nobody's going to bid before pick 20 so wherever he falls he'll be matched. Jade Rawlings is a WOEFUL coach, I wouldn't take much noticeThat's where Norwood coach Jade Rawlings thinks his AFL future is, that's good enough a recommendation for me.
Maybe if you watch Murley play you would agree with Rawlings" assessment, I certainly do.Jade Rawlings is a WOEFUL coach, I wouldn't take much notice
Eagles coach Adam Simpson has made a big statement, saying soft cap cuts mean it will now be harder to draft problem kids who are not from private schools.
West Coast Eagles coach Adam Simpson claims cuts to club finances could force recruiters to only draft kids from private schools and with two parents.
In a confronting interview on Thursday, Simpson declared it was becoming harder to pick kids who are a “hassle off field” because of reduced soft caps and resources.
“You’re more inclined to go safer in the draft and you’ll draft the same type of player – Mum and Dad are still married, kids go to the private school, not too much of a hassle off-field,” Simpson said on 3AW.
Clubs have been battling in the wake of the AFL cutting $6.2 million from football departments’ soft caps because of the ongoing Covid-19 crisis.
Simpson said it had impacted the club’s ability to take risk-takers in the draft.
“We’re probably a coach short and a couple of medicos short as well and I’ve said this before but it does affect who you draft and develop,” he said.
“You really want to go for the talent and geez this kid needs a lot of help, we can resource that with support around the mental health issues or family support or learning difficulties. These types of things you’re happy to take a risk on because you can resource it but we just don’t have that anymore.
“Where I think we all like to see the risk takers don’t we?
“The more resourcing we can have the more risk takers we can take and that’s probably the main thing and it’ll affect the product in the long run.”
