Maybe if you watch Murley play you would agree with Rawlings" assessment, I certainly do.
I've seen him play a fair bit in recent weeks, and I like what I see

Don't forget Jason has only been playing limited midfield minutes in South's league team which feeds into that. His kicking's alright but not on the same level as that of Matt Roberts.
Does Roberts have that x-factor we need in the mids?

From the limited highlights, seems a Simon Black type?

Thanks for the feedback bicks. I also liked the look of Wagner from the swans. Quick hard at it. I wonder if his brother is a similar player
Wagner?

I was wondering if I'd missed someone then I worked out you probably mean Warner?

If so he's a WA/East Fremantle outside mid Corey Warner, if that's who you mean can't say I recall having seen him play so I'f have to take your word for it.

A Simon Black type would do wonders in a midfield with Schoenberg, Berry and Pedlar. Good bit of x-factor in that bunch so far.

I don't know about X factor but I reckon everyone to a man would like the player we take to be another Simon Black. :):fire:

Do you know how hard it is to actually be a Simon Black type?

Black was an absolute ****ing gun. One of the best decision makers and ball users I've seen.

Interesting comparing list profile for WB at the beginning of 2016 and us this year.
Midfield was mainly 21 & 22 y.o. with Bont, Hunter, Macrae, mixed with a few 24 y.o. Liba, Wallis.
Boyd and murphy pushed to defence.

Within 2 years our profile will be way better so the expectations should be set high without excuses.
We will have almost double the amount of draft picks taken in the top 20 than WB had at the time.

Pressure on Hamish and Co this year as quality of draft picks over the past 4 drafts should see a side oozing class especially in the midfield in the near future.

Big weekend for us. Go Hawks and Roos.
If we finish last would have to ask the question about a priority pick.
If we finish last, we should keep a low profile and hope no one asks any questions...

Would it be worth using one of our second or third rounders to get Stephens from Sydney. He's in and out of that side like a yoyo. Or is he not worth it with the quality of mids in the draft this year

I would take him. Melbourne’s second rounder looking about right.

What actually is “x factor” anyway?

34 touches, 8 marks, 9 tackles, 8 clearances, 10 inside 50’s, 3.1. is that X factor or a damned hard working midfielder?

That’s an U18 game Matty played this year. I don’t know about X factor - but he’ll do a lot toward winning you a game of football.

Bit like "Elite", gets overused and bastardised over time. Dictionary says "a noteworthy special talent or quality". For me in footy terms applies more to your Eddie Betts type small forwards where doing the impossible a few times a game gets prioritised over doing the excellent/very good consistently that you want from mids.

I was saying he's not a great pick, but people on here would be calling for Hamish's head again if we picked a sub 185cm mid who wasn't running sub 2.9 sec 20m.

I think if we had a Simon Black we wouldn't be looking at pick 1 or 2.

The fact you continue to ignore our midfield is horrific and we have had bucket loads of picks to have a quality midfield and that's ultimately on Hamish, development and coaches.

So if any of Milera, Jones, McHenry, Gallucci, Poholke are/remotely tracking of any significance then they should have replaced at least one of our hacks.
Schoenberg, Pedlar and Berry plus this year picks will give him 10 cracks at getting a decent midfield and he also has had picks 17 Doedee, 12 Fogarty, 6 McAsey, 2 TT, 28 Worrell to use to get a matching winning midfield so the fact is they have failed badly so far.

We will have 18 selections under pick 30 after this draft. The dogs had 12 in their 2016 flag.

It's been an epic fail so far as games are won in the midfield and wonder why we aren't winning with our group of elite turnover kings.

There's no excuses or hiding if there isn't a dramatic improvement next year.

That Pendlebury/Cotchin/Black/Hodge composed mid is what we have lacked for over a decade. Those sort of players win you finals (and usually end up winning Norm Smiths).

So a loss today and we move up Lore's table above GWS - almost level with the Hawks who will drop down a bit.

Of course lots of machinations with other clubs picks on both sides, but moving solidly into pick 2 ... with an eye on Pick 1 is about all we can hope for in terms of draft picks.

Even if North don't scrape above us on the ladder - the last guy we got at pick #2 is pretty decent :)

I'm still unsure of how we trade in enough currency to have a shot at Rankine / Luko (this year or next). We could do with both a freaky skilled hard at it small forward AND an absolute elite disposer running out of our backines / on the wing.

Is there a trade route that allows us to get more high end players into the club? Gold Coast have #4 and #7 - I'm guessing Matt Crouch is looking for a longer tenure than we are offering which should add to our basket of goods.

At what point the potential missed opportunities outweigh Horne's cost? What is the tipping point? Elite mid is something we are desperate for. Second coming of Fyfe is a nice idea, didn't win Freo any premierships though :-(

Could we keep a pick inside the top 5 for a mid and land Rankine or Luko?

Jeez, imagine getting handed a pp (like GC got #1 and #20 in 2019) - maybe it's just our history at the draft / trade table talking ... but I'd be petrified of how badly we could stuff it up!!
