The reason people and saying split and downgrade, is because we don't trust recruiting to pick and elite star at 3.

People are so scared of being in the Tambling Franklin situation that they'd rather downgrade so the pressure is off.

If you have a top 5 pick you expect a star and if you don't get one, you fall massive behind the club who did get it right at the pointy end
No we don't.

I have faith in our recruiting staff. It's not like they're constantly reaching to pick players outside of their draft range and keep being proven wrong.

You look to split the pick because there ISN'T s standout top six or seven. There's three, and then there's a band of maybe ten players.

Is this sarcasm?

This is exactly right

I wonder if it's in part one of the reasons we (the club) have been happy to trade down in the past?

Though we nailed the Thilthorpe pick last year so that's perhaps unfair.

If we could swap 3 for 2 in the top 10 I'd do it.

Thankyou Collingwood. That win against Hawthorn may end being very very costly. Has cost us pick 2 and possibly pick 1. Let's hope the Hawks get up against Collingwood and beat Richmond. Looks like we are ending up with pick 3.

Why the excitement to finish wooden spooners!!???. We are going to get a very good player at pick 2 or 3 or 4. As others have mentioned once the nationals take place we will get a good feel for who we can take

...IF the nationals take place.

The whole "wooden spoon" thing lasts for about 10 minutes when the season ends.

I couldn't even tell you who finished last 2 seasons ago. The reward of first pick is big.

Agree

It last 10 minutes externally, whereas Carlton are proof it's hard to turn around a losing culture

I think we will be one silly win against Hawks last week from getting pick 1 and a Jason Horne. Some may say finishing last is not good for Culture but getting elite talent into the club is what builds culture .

What’s the go with Roberts’ injury? If the Nationals go ahead later in the year will he be good to play?

There was an article posted about a week ago that said he was expected to be ready. Ditto Draper. Mutineer would most likely know.

Hoping the Hawks will want to send clarko off in the right style with wins against Collingwood and Richmond. I think quite a few of them weren't happy with clarko being fired. Should be a interesting selection with Mitchell wanting to pick the worst team possible and clarko wanting to spoil their plans.

Been thinking that too. Think they'll definitely be motivated to win last game in Rd 23 v Tigers. Hopefully Tigers are out of finals race by then.
