+ Future first & future 2nd for Tom Green? And if our recruiters are spot on - Thats actually a rebuild right there
7 - Cotchin Replacement
14 - Jack replacement
17 - Astbury replacement
26 - Edwards replacement
*Blake Schlensog - If we could perhaps get Blake or a similar freebee
Draft time is one of my favourite off-season events. I always watch this closely.
Now this is just my humble opinion but with bulldogs looking to trade their first round pick (currently pick 14) to gain enough points for when a team bids for Darcy, assuming they lose to Essendon it will end up being pick pick 11-12 I believe. I think we should trade our Geelong's pick (currently pick 16) and our late or future late pick to go higher in the draft and hopefully snag a top 10 player who may slip out.
So take the best available or best available mid with our first pick and the steal of the draft with bulldogs pick? Would love to hear everyone's opinion on what to do with our first round picks this year.
Personally, I categorise Daicos & Darcy as picks 1A & 1B, then go with Horne as pick #1, Callahan pick #2, etc and keep thinking of our pick as #7 or #8 and see who is likely to be there as the 7th or 8th genuinely available non-academy/fs player.
Basically I consider those players as pre-selections rather than being part of the draft.
The more I'm reading the more I get the feeling this may not be the draft to covet bulk picks in the 2nd round onward. Seems to drop off substantially after the top 10 or so. Reckon we should be doing all we can to package picks and get as high in the draft as possible to nab a couple of genuine elite kids rather than hold on for a spread of speculative picks that, by the sounds of it, may not even be drafted in a stronger year. Or swap picks into next year with the hope of a better crop.
Could we trade for the Dogs pick and then on-trade it with the Cats pick for another top tenner, potentially?

Draft will be over before pick 70.Top 4 picks are a tier above.
Not worth trading down from late first round this year.
I would try to keep our 2nd round picks.
Trade (existing 3rd rnd picks) and if we get 2 more 3rd round picks (Caddy&Chol)?, (1600points) to Bulldogs for both their picks(14?,70?). (1152points).
Go to draft 7, 14, 15, 26, 28, 70.
Wishful thinking….

It's those picks 14 and 15 we could potentially have that worry me. If it's the kind of draft where the quality drops off a cliff after the first dozen those picks aren't particularly valuable. Although it looks like we have a treasure trove on paper, mid 1st round picks might only afford us access to kids who would be appraised as 20-30 in a decent draft year. Other teams would be looking at it the same way which would make trading up difficult. Really want to nail this draft and bring in some elite talent rather than role players.Top 4 picks are a tier above.

Exactly how i would play it and ending up with 4 players with the combination you have listed would be a fantastic draft haulThis is how I would play this draft:
Trade picks 28, 40, 44 to Bulldogs for pick ~14.
Gold Coast the only club that looks like being able to offer more.
Pick 7 - Hobbs/Erasmus (likely both gone) , Gibcus (most likely available but gone by our next pick). Otherwise whoever available of Roberts, Ward, Rachelle.
Pick 14 - Any slider from above, but more likely: Goater, Sonsie, Draper, Johnson or Chesser
Pick 16 - Jye Amiss or Jacob Van Rooyen or Jack Williams. Don't think we could risk waiting until 26, unless we don't really rate them.
Pick 26 - Ned Long or Mitch Nevitt - Maybe Schlensog or Rhett Bazzo if we didn't take Gibcus.
Could also be happy to toy with this pick, accepting slight downgrades - eg trade to Melbourne for 34 and swap our 2022 3rd round for their 2022 2nd round. Would actually be happy to entertain improving future draft hand if at any of our picks we have a few options we are happy with - slide back a couple and gain an upgrade for 2022 draft.

It's a matter of risk. Yes, there's always outliers that get picked up later, that's not what I'm saying. Do you risk drafting a couple of fringe players with 1st/2nd round picks equating to 2nd/3rd rounders or go all-in on getting access to the very top tier talent and mitigating that risk? Some years are definitely stronger than others and there are times when picks in the mid to late 1st round are gold. I'm just reading more and more how that isn't the case this year.We hear this every year, when are people going to realise the talent will be there in the teens and '20s too, it's simple some will get it wrong and some will get it right with later picks, the underlying factor here above all else is the talent is there. If we can nab another first-rounder, we will get 3 talented players.
And there are always sliders who many think may go top 10 but for club needs, i.e choosing other players, they will find themselves sliding which will suit a club like Richmond with multiple pics.
You can't do that+ Future first & future 2nd for Tom Green?
There's the rebuild lol
Yeah that would be ideal. Try stack those first rounders. I like the idea! No, I wouldn't be handing over our "Geelong's first-rounder" for the dog's 1st rounder. If they want to deal, let's take their first round pick but in return, we can still give them enough points with our 2nd and 3rd rounders.
What a hoot it would be if our club had 3 first-rounders. The salt would be overflowing.

Would be devastating to have the winning hand in a game played for peanuts.
That's right. We boosted our recruiting department this year so if you see us taking 4-5 picks in the draft you can bet that we see this year as deep. Its only considered a shallow draft due to such limited exposure - direct quote from a development coach at the suns.
I’ve said it before on here but I’ve been to a few presentations where Blair was the speaker. If we are going to the draft, he and the recruiters really rate it as he said they trade out if they don’t rate the talent available. That's right. Pick 7 – Richmond
After achieving the ultimate success three times over across the last four years, Tigers fans will again be amongst those invested in what the top 10 has to offer come draft time. This promises to be their earliest pick since taking Nick Vlaustin at number nine in 2012 and while there has been a steady influx since, Richmond can now look towards pure list needs at the end of its dynasty.
Retirees Bachar Houli and David Astbury leave running and key position slots to fill in defence, with the likes of Josh Sinn and Gibcus perfect fits for either mould. We know the Tigers love a Northern Knights graduate, so Ward would be a good shout with Trent Cotchin winding down, though Hobbs would be hard to pass up if available. Neil Erasmus and Roberts are other reliable ball winning midfielders in contention, along with Sonsie who has a point of difference.

Pretty sure it was one of the podcasts. Boosted might not be the correct word though. Pretty sure we at least maintained what we had in our recruiting department and cut costs in the football department instead such as with the assistant coaches.Did we ???
Where is this mentioned ?
agreedIf Hobbs is available at our pick we should grab him and run
Surely Van Rooyen doesn't slide to 28? KPFs are always sought after and either of the WA teams could want one, as could a host of other teams. If CCJ stays and we can trade for the Bulldogs 1st round pick this year we could have (according to EDPS)
Pick 9 Erasmus/Hobbs
Pick 16 Ward/Roberts
Pick 18 Ned Long/Johnson
Pick 28 Van Rooyen
I would be taking Van Rooyen with our 2nd pick (geelong 1st round)Surely Van Rooyen doesn't slide to 28? KPFs are always sought after and either of the WA teams could want one, as could a host of other teams.
