15.17 from his 13 games this year, was very handy.
Plus we don't have too many small forwards anyway (especially with Eddie retiring)
I like what Owies brings. Smart and even a bit of mongrel. Just re watched his work against the druggies this year. I was surprised how willing he was to mix it with them, repeatedly.

I really like our midfield balance right now. A good combination of inside and outside

Cripps - Inside
Wash - Inside/Outside
Cerra - Outside

As a starting 3 is about perfect imo. Then roll Kennedy, Curnow, Hewett, Dow, Williams, Fisher there's a constant flow of inside and outside guys.

Starting to get a little excited about this. Perhaps the only thing missing is a mid that consistently hits the scoreboard, though towards the back end of the year Walsh was adding that to his game.

I believe Cerra can add that string as can Dow & Fisher. As it stands right now none are legitimate consistent goal kicking mids, but a few can get there.
I'm thinking that this off-season has been sensational and we have given ourselves the best chance of being a significant club again.

It's been a long long time, when we have such wholesale change:
  1. A new president
  2. A new CEO
  3. A new Football Manager
  4. A new senior coach
  5. New board members

We have a unified body that can go forward together :D

Now all we have to do is focus on the football side

With additional recruits and a healthy players list - we are definitely finals bound.
So, it's not just about Cerra, Hewett, Brander etc - it's about what the fact that they add to all the players that we have coming back from a injuries - a horrid 2021.

These players were also playing with a coach - who was a 'dead man walking' - that's not very inspirational.
Vs a new coach, Vossy, who is supported by the board and management.

That's a whole different ball game - games will be given to those who earn it.
The players will know that they have to shape up, put in the efforts or ship out - no more excuses.
This is a healthy attitude

So, I'm very excited for 2022 - we are finals bound - bring it on!!! :D

Further to just replacing people, we seemingly have put emphasis on getting people in who will be upfront and call things out when they see it, rather than hide behind platitudes.

Sayers - doesn't mince his words.
Diesel - about as upfront as it gets
Voss - one of the hardest players and strongest leaders the game has seen, doesn't let things slide and will call out poor efforts
Hamill - similar to Voss, uncompromising and will call things out when he sees it

I think the players will be in for a fair shock when pre-season starts. One thing is for sure, you don't want to be the bloke who turns up to pre-season out of shape.. God help that poor sap.

Really keen to see Philp this year. He seems to be the forgotten 1st round draftee.
Really like his attributes

Definitely not forgotten by me. ;)

If he gets through a full preseason I think he's someone who can genuinely surprise in 2022. Prepared to revisit this in 12 months with egg on my face, but I am not ruling out him cementing a spot in our best side by the end of next season.

Inside: Cripps, Kennedy, Dow, Setterfield
in/out: Walsh, Cerra, Williams, Martin, Hewett, Fogarty, Carroll, Kemp, Philp
Outside: O'Brien, Fisher, Ramsay

Williams was kicking goals early days, Walsh & Kennedy can kick them. Cripps, Martin, Fisher & Fogarty get opportunities but need to improve their conversion. Dow has got heaps better in this regard this year. Cerra should be able to kick a couple.

Agree, and you've succinctly described the beginning of our culture change, an upheaval was needed and Luke Sayers had the foresight and tenacity to make it happen.
We'll be writing in more detail about these times a bit later on. Go Baggers

Mentioned the below in another thread.

I've been told Philp is tracking along well and will be ready for a full pre-season. From what I've seen the kids a jet but has had groin/hip issues. If they're sorted he will instantly improve us and add extra pace and tackle pressure through the middle/ HFF.

Sayers has been on the board for almost a decade and must be at least partly responsible for the failures during that period - hardly reflects foresight.
If the Teague failure has taught us anything it must be that a senior coach must be surrounded by a mix of skillsets and experience - a structure that enhances a cultural shift, not one that harks back to a culture of “mongrel” being the key ingredient.
Seems pretty shallow and outdated in my view.

Liam Stocker says hello……
Liam was streaming earlier today and I asked if he expected/wanted to play more minutes in the midfield and whether he's happy to stay in defence. He said he didn't care which position he played and that he was happy in defence. Also he had no idea we would draft him that night, and thought he'd be going to either the Tigers or Freo. He only started playing footy when he was 12/13 years old too and supported St.Kilda as a kid.

Agree, crash and bash type of footy only, is outdated, but our shift in culture will come from a confluence of great footy IQs , Williams, Vossy , Power and assistants, an enormous skill, & natural ability pool foremost , with an element of Alpha , which our team very much needs.
Luke Sayers is the consummate administrator that will manage for the betterment of our club, won’t take nonsense and tells it as it is. Go Baggers

That seems like a misprint. I thought everyone supported Carlton as a kid. Thats the whole basis of our trading and recruiting.
