What choice would north have if he is OOC at years end and says I’m out.
They’d simply have to negotiate the best trade possible with his nominated club.
In our case, I believe we have our 1st and 2nd rounders and also likely have some players we might be willing to trade that may interest north.
Plenty of options available if there is interest ...
No choice and like you have stated they would need to get the best trade done possible for themselves but that’s only if Ben wants too leave, sure no doubt he’ll get some good offers he will have to weigh up only thing that keeps him staying is loyalty and a positive vision of where he thinks they might be heading...
Balls completely in his court...

Ben McKay 24yrs (dec) 201cm 99kg developing very nicely, no chance Kangas give him up his the future and also we can’t play 3 KPD’s in our backline...
Need to draft our own future KP’s and Rucks or get them at a young age 20,21,22? from other teams where they can still develop in our reserves system but also play in case of senior injuries...
Who are the three key defenders we would have?

Let me also say that when Ben McKay was drafted he saw himself as a forward not a Backman.

Quality, A-grade KPPs are hard to find in the draft. Add into that equation that our development of draftees kind of sucks, and that KPPs take a good 3-5 years before being AFL ready, and I think trading for one is our only option at this point in time.

In regards to Ben McKay, he's probably worth a late 2nd - early 3rd. I'm not necessarily thrilled by the idea of bringing him in, but I guess he's an upgrade from OMac. If we want to be confident in a Jones replacement, I doubt it'd be McKay.
The thing is McKay who is playing regular firsts now ain’t going to come over and sit in the reserves until an injury or bidding his time for Jones to retire ‘which could be up to 4/5 years yet’ and we certainly couldn’t play the three KP defenders most weeks so as much as he would be a good get it really wouldn’t be in his best interests...

More pressure but I think Fisher has him covered easily now in terms of performance.
Once fisher is back Betts has to go.

This year - Betts has Fisher covered in goals/behinds/tackles and pressure in forward fifty - Fisher has Betts covered in higher up ground work. Betts does feature in high pressure big impact moments defensively further up field as required later in quarters.

Also i think Ben this year is just starting to find his feet at the level, looks more confident and composed in himself good age 23yrs only the 15 games which is bugger all into his 6th season, has some good upside...

Saw on the Rising Star nomination article on AFL.com and apparently we've not had a RS nom since Sam Walsh in 2019.

That's not really a good thing for a young team rebuilding. Because it's so early on in players careers would that be more recruiting as opposed to development? Not getting guys ready to have any impact right away as opposed to not developing them.

How many have been eligible?

We are not really a young and/or rebuilding team any more.

Just our first 2 round picks:
2017 Draft - Dow (received nom in 2018), O'Brien, De Koning
2018 Draft - Walsh (received nom in 2019), Stocker
2019 Draft - Kemp, Philp

So I suppose it's not as bad considering it's none between O'Brien, De Koning, Stocker, Kemp & Philp - as well as all later round picks & rookies.

Still would've been good to see someone bob up since Walsh.

Most of our youngsters now 21yrs-24yrs have been nominated in their earlier games played some have had big injury setbacks and some have atm stagnated, we do have a few that have only played a couple of games and a couple that still haven’t debuted yet, DeKoning 9 games, Stocker 5, Carroll 0, Kemp 0, Parks 2, Durdin 0, Ramsay 0, Philp 2, Honey 1, Owies 1, Cottrell 7...

For Clayton Oliver, prior to Marchbank collapsing and I was wrongfully bullish on McCredie at the time so it was more a balance thing than just "we should trade Weitering" as you suggest. Flattered you remember my posts from two years ago.

I loved the idea of SOSs rebuild, but I'm ready to call it on these two.

Dow can't kick or find the footy. O'brien is too soft.

I'd like to see more of Stocker and Cuningham than these two and still think Williamson is going to be very good.

Also dropping Dow gives Fog the opportunity to spend more time on ball.

I don't think anyone who runs out onto a footy field (be it at AFL or local level) can be described as soft.

I played footy as a junior for a couple of years at North Ringwood, but the game was too physically taxing and demanding on me (I have very mild cerebral palsy) and I had to quite and played Soccer and Basketball instead, which I was reasonably good at, also tried Tennis for a summer, but the less said about that, the better.

Footy is the one of the most physically demanding sports in the world, my Cousin is married to an American, and he is amazed how the players run around without any helmets or body padding.

Just thinking about this, of our last 3 drafts (not including 2020), we've only managed to get a meaningful contribution from 1 player. That's a pretty poor return.

TDK was a project player and Kemp was already injured, we still would've expected more by now.
