Arent we in a position to match closely whatever is being offered to mackay by others? I thought we were in a good position re salary cap. Also looks like cripps is about to sign and not on ridiculous money.
It probably depends on what he's being offered.
We'd have a degree of flexibility and the capability to create room owing to the number of players off contract at the end of the season but a club like North may come with a monster offer that we're unwilling or unable to compete with.

Mckay, Walsh and Cripps will all demand big $ and will be offered it elsewhere if we low ball them. Add to this bringin in Williams and Saad on big contracts the money will be drying up very quickly.

We will lose Murphy & Betts who are prob on 400-600k each, so get a little back there.

Sure M.Lloyd had mentioned a very large deal offered to H by ESS, which he had turned down.
Still has a long way to go & things to work on but his $’s are clicking up. Hopefully a 1 club player.
Will be interesting if/when Charlie comes back as the FF position should be his with H up to CHF (and potential ruck backup, not sure if that’s favoured by H).

According to FootyWire we have 23 players on our list out of contract at the end of thid year. Thats ridiculous

What we don't want is a squeeze ala Collingwood or GWS.

So 50k under here, 30k under there adds up to us having flexibility and being able to keep the side together.

Also we have the cap space, but aren't we after another midfield gun to put us in the top tier of clubs? If we pay both Cripps and Harry market rates, that would be virtually impossible.

Not really. COVID cuts, and a new CBA in the way for some deals. Players & clubs probably both holding out.
Cripps (pending) & H the big ones.
Seniors in Betts, Murphy, Ed, Levi + Newman
Then queries on extensions for JSOS, SPS, LOB, Kemp, Pittonet, Gibbons, Ramsay
Rookies in Kennedy, Cottrell, Parks, OMac, Honey + Owies as Cat B.

Not sure who else that they listed (maybe Newnes &/or Setterfield)

We’ve need to sort out viability maintaining Marchbank , McGovern , C.Curnow on the list too, if they just can’t get on the park , at least half a season uninterrupted, a decision needs to be made end this year latest end 2022.
They are a huge expenditure together with youngsters underperforming and retirements we should have ample room to manovre.

yeah it will get difficult no doubt and we may end up having no choice but to let H go if for example a monster offer comes through - Im sure some clubs will throw the kitchen sink at him in due course.

Tough job for the LM's but also, our game style should not rest on the shoulders of one player either. For example Buddy left hawks and they still went on to win another 3 flags. So as long as we have a good core of quality players and they are committed to stay together and try and win flags at the blues then we should be ok. Even better if H stays.

Fogarty as well

No one is offering big money to JSOS though. McKay is the one where a club might put us in a very tricky position.
And if the price is too high we go and try and use what we do have in the cap to get Allen from West Coast or King from Gold Coast. I don't think McKay will leave but if clubs drive his price too high we then use the money we had set aside for him to replace him. It's a good problem to have having talent worthy of good coin. It's been a while since we could say that

Yep, pretty crazy.

Out of all of them, you'd think that Kemp, E. Curnow, McKay, Newnes, JSOS, Fog, Parks, Pitto, Cottrell, Kennedy, Gibbons, Newman, Cripps, Samo and Setters should all re-sign.

Levi, OMac, Honey, Betts, Owies, Murph, LOB and Ramsay are all too early too tell. Some will retire, maybe a couple delisted/traded, and the rest will join the list above.
