The only time I complain about it is when others imply that we don't get treated any differently than any other club. Every club has its own cultural identity and that is also perceived by outsiders. I just wished the media were both more pointed (rather than blunt) and that they had more sympathy for the fans.Couldn't give a fu** what the media think, good, bad or indifferent

Hi Thy. Although I don’t believe there is an outright bias against Carlton I absolutely believe we are seen as an easy target because of two reasons.Rather than give me your plaintiff cries from the dungeon, just back up your statement and answer the questions regarding this myth of media bias against Carlton. I'm desperate to hear it.
Hi Thy. Although I don’t believe there is an outright bias against Carlton I absolutely believe we are seen as an easy target because of two reasons.
1. we have been so bad for so long.
2. other teams supporters love to hate us - so any bad news sells
Teague and Ratts are cases in point. Carlton went in to the season being tipped to finish between 9th and 12th. We are currently 13th. Saints were widely tipped to finish top 4 yet have been demolished by 10+ goals four times and currently sit 12th.
Contrast the pressure placed on Teague/Carltonv vs Ratten/Saints by the media.
Teague is in his second full year and Ratts his third, yet the media blowtorch is set firmly on Teague.
Big fan of this kid, wanted us to go after him before signing on for another 3yrs with his last contract...been seeing that port are going after a midfielder at seasons end and if they end up getting there man does anyone think it may be a good idea for us to target Dan Houston from them?
Would be getting less opportunity there and could be a money ball pick up for us. Will have a season left on his contract at the end of the year. From victoria and is only 24. He’s disciplined and pretty seasoned already. May be a great pick up.

Well StKilda were meant to be top 4 bound weren’t they and how are they going and the are not receiving the media heat we get
Totally disagree. Show me an article where Ratts’ future as coach has been questioned, as per the multiple ones about Teague. They are copping their fair share, smaller club doesn't sell like Carlton.

Admittedly the club set us up for this... "we'll be playing finals this year"... when a majority of the supporters knew that wasn't going to happen. We would finish mid table, fighting for 8th on the table, I think was the concensus at the start of the year. We current;y sit in 13th, 5 spots off the bottom with some easier games ahead of us to pick up a few more wins. Lets see how we go now that Barker is gone and there is one coach in the midfield controlling things.Well StKilda were meant to be top 4 bound weren’t they and how are they going and the are not receiving the media heat we get
Yeah that really explains decades long systemic media bias against us. Do some research and ask opposition supporters how they believe they are treated - by the AFL, umpires, media, tribunal etc. Every club believes they are hard done by, for various reasons - old sins, expansion club, interstate bias, infamous players, admin grudges etc. If every supporter thinks this way, then Carlton is hardly special. We're just crap and have been for decades. This hasn't meant we haven't received regular positive, even glowing, assessments of what we were planning, expecting, processing. Anyone suggesting we are a special target of poor media coverage needs to look to their own expectations in following a team that hasn't saluted for a generation now.Well StKilda were meant to be top 4 bound weren’t they and how are they going and the are not receiving the media heat we get
Exactly, everyone is hard done by. Don’t get me started on soccer people and the media.Yeah that really explains decades long systemic media bias against us. Like there'd be any point looking to pursuade someone who follows umpires closer than players. The media is made up of individuals and unfortunately I understand human nature. Most have a deep hatred for us as a club, some during their playing days or some as I even know during their normal lives. As much as we believe this changes, it doesn’t.
I can go back on many small and big incidents and highlight the differences but I’ll just outline, Williams, Judd and even to date the Plowman suspension.
As I have mentioned previously, again I do have a few contacts in the media and if you believe that they don’t, then continue to do so, better for you, but don’t try and sell me otherwise.![]()
I never said I needed it, but others (and more importantly, the club) might. As for the last part of your sentence, I'm not sure what you are getting at but if I can guess, how do you know they are unrealistic if the media never goes there?I don't need the media to tell me something I already know and even in that, the extremities are always unrealistic
I never said I needed it, but others (and more importantly, the club) might.
Not about needing a puff piece, rather having someone to reframe the narrative when it turns against us. The weight of public opinion often drives AFL / MRP decisions. If others, especially the club need a positive puff piece to justify were we are at and or what we could achieve, then we will achieve nothing.
And we were supposedly a top 8 chance.Well StKilda were meant to be top 4 bound weren’t they and how are they going and the are not receiving the media heat we get
Hilarious. Ex-Carlton player in media says "I disagree with that statement" and suddenly everything is fine. Very, very strange. Not about needing a puff piece, rather having someone to reframe the narrative when it turns against us. The weight of public opinion often drives AFL / MRP decisions.

It does, the whole PP decision of a few years back was entirely popular opinion driven. I would also query Arrow's definition of what a 'puff piece' was if he(?) thinks that was what I was referring to.Not about needing a puff piece, rather having someone to reframe the narrative when it turns against us. The weight of public opinion often drives AFL / MRP decisions.
