Wonder if we would have taken moyle if still on the table, haven’t seen much gameplay, but spoke very well on the coverage just then. Obviously doesn’t mean he can play lol but thought he was more impressive in convo than plenty of current, media trained players

I would have preferred Crocker.
Yeah the Boyd selection is a head scratcher at least Crocker is a very good mark overhead and has an abundance of talent, shattered when the Dawks took Callow with there 2nd pick would have been ideal.

Aiden Begg. Coached him for 3 or 4 cricket seasons. Great kid, great family. Versatile tall, but will miss the rest of the year with a shoulder. Read somewhere that Collingwood might be into him, which would be about the worst result for me, but fantastic for him. With three picks to use, and a lack of developing talls, I'd be thrilled if we took him late.

Congrats mate. I know it's not where you wanted but he's in the system now. If he develops he'll get picked up elsewhere if he doesn't get re-signed.

Wooller, Parsons, Crocker, Radanovich ... must be thrilled with the opportunities joining our VFL side has given them.

It's a little bit of 'huh' after all the talk.

With Owies doing well and Durdin our first pick from the National Draft, this seems a little tame. Mirkov is a way off but at least there is some depth in that position finally.

With cuts needing to be made at the end of the season, are either of these guys going to be in the gun like De Luca ended up being?

Mirkov 18 month contract.

Boyd very likely.

A stop-gap KPD to play in our VFL squad this season would have actually been useful, to be honest.

Well yeah, if the second pick is to help the VFL side, you'd think a key position player would give them some structure.

How many small forwards/midfielders can we have on our list?
Yet we have no key position player depth.
I don’t get this focus of we need small forwards.
We need wingman
We need a lockdown small defender
We need Key Defenders depth
We need Key forward depth.
Nah let’s draft another small forward to go with the rest so we can bomb it to them for a contested Mark.
It’s the mid season draft, hardly any blokes are still on AFL lists from the 2019 draft. It’s not like we’ve passed on Sam Walsh.

We can address the needs you’ve listed in the national draft and trade period.

Not sure why they would be upset. Mirkov was given an opportunity and every other club had access to them and didn't select them.

Mostly because they've been in form and Boyd doesn't seem to have done much that small forwards do. At 22, I'm not sure what we saw that he hasn't already displayed.

A lot of really good state level players haven't been taken btw.

1. Happy with Mirkov, but it was pretty expected. Would've been in my top 3 to pick up.

2. I wish Boyd all the best and everything, but... I'm intrigued to say the least. Barely tackles, hasn't kicked a goal in 5 games, and doesn't get a heap of the pill. I fear he will be a Deluca 2.0

3. If we didn't want to use up too much cap space or another list spot with the 3rd pick, why did we go for a small forward with our 2nd? Surely a KPF/KPD would've been more useful? Or maybe another winger as a Cottrell/Newnes upgrade?

Took the missus out for dinner as she aced her first ever uni exam (at 36). Got a message from the ex's family (who I'm still somewhat close to, all die hard ITK Dogs people) telling me that we got a good one (shortly before draft). Then we obviously drafted Boyd.

They say he'll fit in well and offer us something later in the year. Believe there's a chance that he and Durdin become a combo that works well together.

They watch all the VFL games closely and know lots of people. There's something there. I hope they're right.

So much for stashing Maher.

Didn't Austin come over from the Dogs too? He'd have inside track.

Ryan Gardner, Will Snelling, Marlion Pickett, John Noble. That's 4 quite good players out of 13 who were selected. Always the opportunity to pick up a hidden gem.

Why did we Pick up Boyd? he's a small forward who hasn't kicked a goal this year?????????

Apparently he's playing as a small lockdown defender and has a lot of pace. Kind of flips the whole thing on its head as none of our quick defenders are lockdown types.

Inspired selection if that's the case.

Don't know anything about Boyd but listed as a medium forward who has been playing further up the ground this year. Maybe Austin knows something about him?
Second round mid season is speculative at best but I wish him the best.

I think this is his first year with the Dogs after coming from Spotswood.

He's been building up his defensive side of their game. With the amount of small to medium forwards the Dogs have he hasn't gotten much of look in (even at VFL level). Remember, Weightman only recently cracked their 22.

Whether that's where we see him or not is open for debate.

Now that’s interesting. Thanks for the intel.

I note that he got the pill 23 times in his last VFL game before the postponement. So he’s clearly not playing small forward.

Maybe he’s our Cam Polson replacement!

If Boyd is a small lockdown defender, I can see us grabbing him. What I can't understand is the lack of KPP depth we didn't get. We're screanubg out for 1-2 of that type... and... we take a project ruckman and a small defender. And we passed on the last pick as well. Dafuq?

I wish immense success to anybody on our list that has pace. He should be able to play a couple of scratch matches and come in to our side on the wing if he can kick the ball at all.

Maybe Cottrell's skills and LOB's inability to take the leap to the next level have seen us take this this gamble?
