Fun Facts with Grotto

In all the past 6 head to head games of Port v Tigers, there has been less than a goal the difference at 3/4 time, in 4 of the 6 matches.

In the last 6 matches at AO, Port v Tigers, Port have led in 2 games at 3/4 time and been down by less than a goal in the remaining 4 games.

Buckle up tonight.

I grew up in the heart of Alberton as a die hard Crows fan but Port to me are just like any of the other 17 clubs - a team we have to beat to win a flag.

They have good young players, just like Sydney do. Just like we do.
They have some aging guys and some spuds, just like North do. Just like most other clubs do.
They have some dodgy off-field characters, just like Richmond do. Just like we do.

I have no vested interest in what colours they or any other clubs wear. If Port want to rock up in a floral get up for a Showdown, go for it.

I think the fixation on Port by a few of our posters comes across a bit sad on this board. A couple in particular come to mind, thankfully they stick to the Bay because it's downright embarrassing.

Leave it to Port fans to be "those guys", be the better club.

I just want to put this out there: exactly how fat is Craig Hutchinson these days?

And the bloke has how much money? You’d think he could afford a home gym and a personal trainer

He has undertaken the Stuart Dew off season conditioning program.

Mind you I saw this the other day, true it is 10 years old, but for a potato he moved well.

The problem is that even if we sit quietly, they will still continue to bash our club relentlessly.

Anytime I look at anything on social media about the Crows it's filled with Port trolls bagging the club. You have people like Kane Cornes taking pot shots at players like Tex or flogs like Peter Goers bagging the club while on the flipside Port apparently wrote to various media agencies like FiveAA asking for them to always push a positive narrative about Port.

Sorry, but I'm not going to be meek and let our rivals constantly bag our club while we just sit around doing nothing and act as though we're above it all.

Calling them out on their BS is exactly how rivalries are and as much as we try to deny it, our rivalry will always be against them.

That's just a persecution complex.

1. Social media is social media.
2. Does anyone actually care what Kane Cornes and Peter Goers say, ultimately? Their job is to literally stoke anger and create conjecture.

I don't have an issue with Port people being critical of the club, but it needs to go both ways.

Not have it all coming from one way, while we just sit around looking pathetic and never firing a shot back.

Yeah it's most probably toxic, but ultimately that's what rivalries are like.

As a Centrals supporter, it's part of my heritage too...

Glenelg supporters aswell, my wife doesn't understand why i hate Port so much, i tell it was ingrained into me from a early age

I’m all for strategic acts of sticking it up Port, but they have to be exactly that - strategic.

Making a fuss over them wearing that guernsey necessarily attaches meaning and value to that very guernsey. The reality is that guernsey means nothing to anybody other than them. It’s not the prestigious world-famous piece of sporting attire they make it out to be. Nobody outside SA would even recognize what that ****ing thing is.

Let them wear it, and beat them repeatedly in it, is the answer to this.

This would make sense except for the fact this is a footy forum, not a game of chess and we have no influence on whether or not our side actually beats them on the field.

I'm fine with them wearing it for their Showdown if the AFL say it's okay.

When it comes to our Showdown though, I don't want any part of that circus being involved in our game.

Extracted from an article written 18 years ago:

Gordon Bilney, a minister in the Hawke and Keating Labor governments, says South Australians are serious about football in a way that is beyond the understanding of Victorians.

"Victorians say they hate Collingwood in the way that people say they hate snails getting into their garden and eating their lettuces," Bilney said.

"Let's call a spade a spade. If Port Adelaide were the last team on earth and they were playing a scratch outfit made up of child molesters, axe murderers, failed entrepreneurs and Liberal politicians, I'd barrack for the Liberals."

At our home showdown I want a guard of honour with David Brown, Scott Hodges, Darren Smith, Simon Tregenza and the sons of our inaugural coach wearing the hoops clapping our boys onto the ground. Heritage and all that.
