That sad thought after watching a good Shai Bolton game of how the Crows were actually going after him for all of a week before having to be happy to settle instead for the sniffer Wombat 😞

This. We're not where we need to be yet in terms of talent on the list.

Freakish wins against top teams do us no long term favours atm. Could even just prolong our time down low.
Trying for four is our Mantra. Get the four then put the cue in the rack sounds good to me.

This will be my first and final post in regards to the use of a black and White guernsey in the VFL/AFL.... sure the original SANFL Magpies were founded in 1870, but they only Adopted their black and white colours in 1902. Collingwood, albeit a younger footy club have been wearing those colours since their inception in 1892.
https://forever.collingwoodfc.com.au/the-jumper/. Therefore I understand their objection. Port can huff and puff, but they were wearing magenta for the first years of Collingwood’s existence.

no. thats the rule if you get concussed regardless of whether you get subbed out..

see our game against geelong.. we activated the sub and two minutes later Kelly got ko’d.. kelly instantly got 12 days off.. he wasnt subbed out of the game though.
I might be getting confused by the fact it was initially supposed to be a concussion sub...

Thank god your last post about it is about their identity crisis. It still happens today.

Yeah medical sub.. I need edibles.

Pulling back as a coach earlier in the week would be total gold for Damian Hardwick.
Defended Lynch and his worth as a player in their system.
Defendended their system as is gets results.
12 out of 10 pressor that totally delivered to their base.

Ok cool, 30 years later. Best you worry about other things in life.

I wish I had your 'problems'.

Oh yeah, and I apologise for screwing over the state. Absolutely my fault.

teal
Lightning bolts
Back in Black was your last jumpers hyperbole - the hype around that was ridiculous
So in the end this what happens when you run competitions for 13 year olds to design guernseys

live with it

Eleni could be the worst umpire of all time. Reverse sexism for her to not be sacked. She's not doing any good for females in football.

NikkiNoo feenix67 thoughts?
She was shocking last night. I don't think she's a good umpire and that's in the context of a generally poor pool of current umpires.

Elenis performance last night actually got me thinking that it's time we paid these umpires $500k a year and put some effort into making them elite, just like a player. Our sport is baffling to many casual observers and that's largely because the rules are almost invisible due to inconsistency. They need to throw funds at the umpiring dept. Better fitness, knowledge, analysis and psychological development, as well as a clearer set of rules.

I've been watching this sport for so long now, the umpiring in general has become depressing.

Agree with this

I watch them sometimes and to me they seem too preoccupied with the coordination. Getting their rotations right from one zone to the other, making sure their movements are in synch, so that they looked like a coordinated, organised team. Everything except consistent correct decision making.

A bit like a footballer adhering to the game plan, structures, running patterns... but stuffing up kicks, marks and handballs.

They end up running a ridiculous amount during a game which is the height of stupidity. It means the umpiring department is left using athletes rather than decision makers. People who can cover 16km per game. Rules out some older umpires too.

Also means that a HUGE percentage of their training time must be devoted to fitness which is a waste.

The aim should be to call things correctly whilst covering the least ground possible. Park in your area and call the shots.

A quick lap of the oval to warm up but 99% of training to be on umpiring mini games and watching football tapes (camera on field so you get umpire's perspective) as a group - what's your decision? - getting on the same page and honing the decision making process.

Players could run around in ankle bracelets that shock when a decision is made forcing them to stop running.
They could relay the message to a boundary umpire or someone like that in real time.

One of the main issues is that umpires can't see things like throws because they're miles away from the contest and often on the wrong side. Most viewers can easily pick out correct decisions from the close angle broadcast footage of the contest.

You could also have a guy looking at a down the ground camera to pick up any off the ball incidents

They should at the very least stand on the television side of the contest so that their decisions don't look quite as stupid to the hundreds of thousands watching at home

How about 4 umps? 1 on each side of the contest and two up/down the ground ready for the transition. Forward half and back half?

Plus make the rules more black and white. A throw is a throw, no degrees, for example. Like the hands in the back rule was.

The game would be stop/start for about 2 weeks until players adapted, and we'd end up with a far more consistently umpired sport.

The incorrect disposal rule is the worst rule in the game. It should be black and white

If the player doesn't clearly handball or kick the ball, it's a throw

Dropping the ball = throw
Spilled in the tackle = throw
Tackled and held but at the last second gets a kick away = kick (usually this is paid HTB, which is wrong)
Fresh air swing missing the ball = throw
Flick pass = throw, unless it's clearly a handball (no benefit of the doubt)
Ball ripped out of a player's hands = throw
Ball handed from one player to another with no gap = throw
