He's written fantastic books that aren't horrors.
He's just a brilliant story teller. Stand by me was the best.

Only read a few of his books but I found that when he drifts in to the fantasy supernatural bits they are easily the weakest parts of them. Stuff like the real life interactions between the characters are actually his strength.
