Yeah that's not what I was trying to say, I think we bring in 3 new rookies from this years draft.

Just had a quick check.

Currently we have 3 senior list spots available and 0 (zero) rookie list spots available.

If we trade in, or sign a free agent ruck, then we have two available senior list spots.

I love Gunston - but why would be go after him? Hipwood, Daniher, McStay, Cameron, McCarthy, Rayner, Cockatoo.. fire power inside 50 is literally the last thing we need to invest anything meaningful into.

Yeah, you would think that Lane will have replaced Birchall on the Rookie list so therefore it is only Joyce and Brock Smith who are unsigned from the senior list. Ballenden and Archie Smith from the rookie list.

Thanks for working that out, from those 4 names I'd probably keep Ballenden and feel pretty comfortable taking 3 picks to the draft this year, 2 mids/wing/flankers and a key position.

Yeah I'm not sure if I'd change that much, assuming we're able to get Fort I would then just keep Ballenden as a bit of a swingman on a one year deal and have a bit of flexibility next off-season.

Any players in their third season as a Category A or B rookie will be eligible to spend another season as a rookie in 2022

I wonder if we missed a trick by not asking the whole group of players to take a pro rata pay cut to offset the reduced salary cap. By not doing that it effectively means we have overpaid on players wages based on the reduced cap and as a result we have no room to move in this trade period.

I think we should be pretty happy with our squad, but that doesn't mean we should sit on our hands. Which is maybe what we have done by not reducing our players salaries.

I guess by not doing it, it builds some goodwill with the players we have? Probably not the way I'd have gone about it, but I'm sure the club has good reason to justify what they've done.

Also even before the salary cap was cut how often do you see a team bring in a Neale and Daniher caliber of player within two years of each other. Add that to a lot of our key players being young stars that would need contract upgrades and I think we’ve done pretty well to not end up like GWS having to offload a really quality player every couple years.
