idk - Charles Brownlow's career pre-dated the VFL's establishment. And he really helped pioneer the VFL/Geelong Football Club. Due to the history of that award and the history behind it. Naming the women's Brownlow after Pearce isn't the worst idea.

Give Phillips the equivalent of the Michael Tuck medal though.

his playing career maybe, but his administration at Geelong and his VFL presidency were all after the formation.

Wasn't there a grand final with 50k for the crows once?

Seems like it has gone backwards massively or it there was just some novelty factor at play back then.

This has been answered in dribs and drabs, but there are a few factors at play here.

First of all, the crowd wasn't really 53k. There were no tickets that day, just people at the turnstiles with clickers. If you left the ground and half time and then came back in you got counted twice. I was there on the day, it was realistically more like maybe 43k.

The novelty factor was definitely a big part of it. The Crows were also super dominant that year, so Crows fans knew they were going to watch a premiership victory, about as certain as you can ever be in a football match. The game was free, and a bunch of people decided at half time to just come in and watch the second half because, hey, it was free.

Covid is a massive factor. The past few months are the first time SA has really been significantly hit with it. Plenty of people are isolating or sick. Hell, I only just got out of quarantine 36 hours before the match or else I would have missed it too. Others are nervous about sitting in crowds. Attendance at live events is down across the board.

The day and time the game was played this year was atrocious. Noon on a Saturday? Pretty much anyone involved in sporting comps is busy playing. That takes out a huge chunk of supporters, particularly children and women who actually play footy themselves. Contrast that with 12:30PM on a Sunday for the 2019 grand final, a much better time.

It also has to be said, there are many more Carlton supporters than Melbourne supporters, particularly here in SA.

And last of all, the prelim final in 2019 coincided with round 1, so people got to watch the entire minor rounds of the AFLW season unopposed that year. In contrast, this year the final rounds of the season got swamped by the start of the men's season, and with an extra week off due to Collingwood's Covid woes, plenty of people had simply stopped caring by the time the grand final came around.

Question is it really a dynasty if you don’t at least go back to back in any year well done to the Crows but don’t think the lost anyone of any talent in a very uncompromising League

Pretty hard to do that when there wasn’t even a grand final in 2020.
