Gee the recruiting staff were all patting themselves on the back there, they seem REAL happy with that one.

STRENGTHS:

  • Agility
  • Clean hands
  • Contested work
  • Endurance
  • Tackling

IMPROVEMENTS:

  • Ball use
  • Scoreboard impact
  • Versatility

The enduring attribute that stands out when evaluating Green’s game is his toughness and his appetite for the contest. Despite only being small in stature, Green’s attack on the football at ground level and his willingness to compete against bigger bodies is first class and will endear him to his teammates at AFL level.

Having played some rugby as a junior, it comes as no surprise that Green does his best work at the contest. Playing as an inside midfielder, Green is dynamic around the stoppage, pretty clean below his knees and possesses some good power for his size to drive his legs through congestion and send the ball forward to be an effective player at clearance.

In terms of athleticism, Green has some handy traits that he puts to good use in game. He is a very agile player, having tested very well in this metric at the national combine, and is able is weave out of trouble in heavy traffic.

He also has a good endurance base, allowing him to run hard into space and accumulate the football in transition. For his size, Green has also shown himself to be competent overhead, having hauled down some good grabs across the campaign.

Having plied his trade in a professional South Fremantle environment, Green is also a very selfless player who will look to use the first option and not try and take on too many opponents or bite of too much. In this sense, he seems an unflappable character and someone that should adjust to the demands of the top level well.

In terms of improvement, Green’s ball use is at times unpolished. Although he will often lace out a teammate with a bullet, he will look to improve the consistency of his field kicking, particularly when kicking across his body. He would also look to add some scoreboard impact to his game, having booted just three goals from his 11 games for the Bulldogs this season.
